Dialogue, Catalogue & Monologue is about words and the attitudes that we take toward them. Its purpose is to encourage us to take the words we speak more seriously than we are perhaps in the habit of doing. We have become so used to the deceptive subtleties and half-truths that reach our eyes and ears that we have probably been tempted to lose our faith in words and to back away from the words of others. We may even have been tempted to break faith with our own words and to back away from the words that we speak. Craig Gay suggests that this is to back away from life itself, and that our common future hinges on the recovery of dialogue. Our recovery of dialogue, however, does not, in the end, depend simply upon our own efforts. Dialogue never has. If our words enable us to build up a common world, if they enable us to say "we," if it is given to them to bear any fruit at all in this world, this reflects the fact that we are graciously allowed to participate in the creative potency of the divine Word. After all, we were brought into being and are at every moment preserved in existence by words that God has spoken and continues to speak.

From Monologue to Dialogue: Radio and Reform in Indonesia analyses how radio journalism since the late 1990s has been shaped by and contributed to Reformasi, or the ambition of democratizing Indonesian politics, economy and society. The book examines ideas and practices such as independent journalism, peace journalism, meta-journalism, virtual interactivity, talk-back radio and community radio, which have all been designed to renew audience interest in media and societal affairs. It pays special attention to radio programmes that enable hosts, experts, listeners and other participants to discuss and negotiate the very rules and boundaries of Indonesia’s newly acquired media freedom. The author argues that these contemporary programmes provide dialogic alternatives to the official New Order discourse dominated by monologism.

Critical Conversations, Volume 2: Moving From Monologue to Dialogue With the field of nursing in the midst of an unprecedented transformation, nurse educators seek new approaches to classroom teaching and learning that prepare students to confront the complexities of practice and confidently solve problems in clinical settings. Building on the foundation of Critical Conversations: The NLN Guide for Teaching Thinking, this second volume in the NLN’s Critical Conversations series delivers specific examples and expert direction — grounded in knowledge from learning science and models of experiential, situated, and constructivist learning — that nurse educators can use to engage students in active thinking as they work together to determine the best approaches to clinical situations. Structured around the “three Cs” of context, content, and course, this approachable text enhances the teacher-learner relationship and emphasizes clinically focused, authentic dialogue to help nurse educators provide the realistic problem-solving experiences essential for preparing tomorrow’s nurses for practice. “The value of this second volume in the NLN’s Critical Conversations series is in the specific guidance it offers to nurse educators. Based on evidence from learning science, constructivist and experiential learning theories, and the science and philosophy of situated cognition, the authors use examples and offer specific instructions to assist nurse educators in all settings to develop the skills they need to transform their teaching and maximize learning.” Lisa Day, PhD, RN, CNE, ANEF, FAAN Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Clinical Professor Washington State University College of Nursing

In order to effectively align today's complex work processes with the customer and to inspire employees for these tasks, a horizontal approach is required which releases the creative potential of people within organisations. It is vital to carefully sustain complex processes, to conduct clear, transparent, open, and honest dialogue between all levels of the hierarchy and to always consider the biography of the people in an organisation as well as the biography of the organisation itself. This book focuses on the dialogue between you as a leader and your team members, superiors and colleagues. Based on tried and tested methods and models, the author describes how leadership discussions can be prepared, conducted and followed up and shows the effect of communicative behaviour on practical examples. The models and methods are displayed graphically. The focus on the different ways of conducting talks makes this book an informative read and a practical tool for everyone who is interested in developing their communication skills.
