The Effects Of Changing Practical Life Materials In A Montessori Children S Home written by Erin A. Farney and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018 with Montessori method of education categories.

Practical Life is an important area of a Montessori Children;s House/Primary (ages 3-6) as it provides the child with opportunities to practice real life skills. Practical Life activities are intended to meet the developmental needs of the child and provide opportunities for growth in fine motor skills. Studies have shown that children given Montessori-style Practical Life activities have superior fine motor skills over students who have not used such materials. There is debate over what makes an activity truly practical; must the work be rooted in real life activities or is it acceptable to simply have the fine motor refinement and concentration be the focus? The primary research question for this study was whether the weekly rotation/change of Practical Life materials affects the use of the materials. Participants were 34 children in a year-round, private, suburban Midwest Montessori. The researcher surveyed those parents and teachers willing to participate from the eight school locations. She observed and recorded the care of materials, frequency of use and attentiveness for a period of eight weeks. She then analyzed the results of material use and assessed the impact of the interventions on normalization, the willingness to work when developmental needs are met. Parent and teacher questionnaires were also reviewed. Results support the idea that weekly change of materials increases overall use and care. Care of materials and time children spent at work were noticeably higher after the experiment.
