When Lakota warrior Thunder Heart, who is destined to be a leader of his people, saves the lives of two white women during Red Cloud's War, he places his family and, indeed, his entire village at risk. Can Thunder Heart keep these women safe? Will his act of compassion cause the death of his family? Will his people demand the abandonment or death of these women in order to avoid the wrath of the Bluecoats or perhaps that of Red Cloud? Uncertain of the outcome, he knows only one thing: He desires the pale-haired beauty, Victoria Abernathy, and will do anything to insure her safety.

For the Oto Indians the moon in July is the elk-call moon; for the Kutenai it is the berries-ripen-even-in-the-night moon; and for the Cherokees it is the moon of the new ripened corn. Like other civilizations living close to the earth, Native Americans use the moon to recall and anticipate the changing seasons. In Native American Moons, author Jonna Russell brings together the seasonal lore of many tribes and reminds us of our enduring connection to the natural world. Nightwalker, an organization improving conditions on Native American reservations, benefits from the calendar's sale.

Forty one moons scattered across the sky! Is there any lesser light than what the sun may have to offer? Say each moon is a little brighter; a little fairer than the other! Will you see the horizon the same again? Through and through each moon are the childhood dreams ripening with the each moon's brightening gleam! All those hard-to-live-with sorrows suddenly douched by one long night of overflowing light. This goes to those, a little like myself (till the nightscapes almost suddenly changed), who have always associated the darkness of the night with the sorrows that dawn upon them. Here the night is all about peace, ignited passions and tranquil silence. There may not be any therapeutic element that would help one to rediscover his own essence, but yes one thing that one will discover here, is how the glow of forty one moons can make the night brighter than a day that so pleases the commonplace. Each creation as tedious, deep and heartfelt as a drift to the moon on a lonesome night; as profound as the wonderful smile of the moon; each a little brighter than the other and still brighter together to brighten the fact that it is not what seems is sad, it is only what is meant of it. Like verses that either remain stacked in some lonesome corner dark and dank with ignorance, or flourish as moons to brighten all nights thereafter. Happy thoughts travel through the saddest paths. Thus, to know your own joys it is mandatory to realize your own sorrows. But to make the best out of the bitter, sour and sweet, one should evolve with the gradient of human emotions, at every step reinventing his own expressions. 'I'-- the most common and ordinary person I know- have tried to reinvent (or vent) my emotions here, in a way that each seems independent of the other. It is a mix of emotions and their expressions. I have realized (whether I mention or not) a volley of emotions through my expression and the entire time I have spent in understanding the intricate relationship between emotion and expression. The puzzle till date remains unsolved but all those things that I have felt and realized in due course, is here! All for my patient reader to realize and interpret in his own unique way! ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Sandip Mitra was born in Shillong in 1985. Since childhood he got the perfect ambience at home to nourish his brilliant sense of poetic excellence. His poetry quite effortlessly creates a colourful world of kaleidoscopic images where all the shades of subtle human emotions find their expressions, form and meaning. His first book 'The Rays from the Third Horizon' received wide acclaim, was published in 2006. His was powerful but truly poignant voice that had the ability to reach out to all who can appreciate the brilliance of a poet. Had it not been for his untimely demise in May 2007 at the age of 22 only, he surely contributed more in the world of creative writings. However short his life may have been, one thing that was ascertained was his friendship with poetry. His perspective was truly fascinating.! His forthcoming publications include: 1. Seventeen Oceans 2. The Untold Saga 3. The Boy who woke at last 4. Discovery of the Hidden Self Email: [email protected] Web site: http://sandipmitra.wetpaint.com
