What is a hypocrite? What role does hypocrisy play in our lives? Why is it thought to be such an ugly vice? Is it ever acceptable? What do we lose in our indifference to it? Hypocrisy: Ethical Investigations seeks to illuminate the concept of hypocrisy by exploring its multiple roles in our moral and political lives and struggles. The authors provide a critical examination of a wide range of perspectives on the nature, varieties, and significance of hypocrisy, arguing that it is a key concept in the investigation of the field of morality in general, including its moralizing excesses.

What is morality? This is the question this book is dealing with. The aim of the study is to show the distorting character of many common pictures of what morality is, pictures found inside and outside of philosophy. The central idea of the book is that the distorting character of these pictures is that they make it possible for me to escape my moral responsibility. Focusing on responsibility and our attempts to shut our eyes to it, questions such as the following are discussed: Is there a moral reality? Is it possible to show someone else what is good and bad? What is the relation between morality and religion? Are there moral truths? What can philosophically be said about the meaning of life?

Evil written by Luke Russell and has been published by Oxford University Press, USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014 with Philosophy categories.

When asked to describe wartime atrocities, acts of terrorism, and serial killers, many of us reach for the word evil. But what does it mean to say that an action or a person is evil? Some philosophers have claimed that there is no such thing as evil, and that thinking in terms of evil is simplistic and dangerous. In response to this sceptical challenge, Luke Russell shows that concept of evil has a legitimate place within contemporary secular moral thought. In this book he addresses questions concerning the nature of evil action, such as whether evil actions must be incomprehensible, whether evil actions can be banal, and whether there is a psychological hallmark that distinguishes evils from other wrongs. Russell also explores issues regarding the nature of evil persons, including whether every evil person is an evildoer, whether every evil person is irredeemable, and whether a person could be evil merely in virtue of having evil feelings. The concept of evil is extreme, and is easily misused. Nonetheless, Russell suggests that it has an important role to play when it comes to evaluating and explaining the worst kind of wrongdoing.

Ethics Of Evil written by Ronald C. Naso and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016 with Psychology categories.

Ethics of Evil rejects facile rationalizations of violence; it also rejects the idea that evil, as a concept, is inscrutable or animated by demonic forces. Instead, it evaluates the moral framework in which evil is situated, providing a descriptive understanding of it as a plurality and a depth psychological perspective.

Excerpt from Ethics, an Investigation of the Facts and Laws of the Moral Life, Vol. 1 T has been my object in the present work to investigate the problems of ethics in the light of an examination of the facts of the moral life. One reason for this procedure is my desire to conduct the reader by the same path that I myself have followed in approaching ethical questions. But that apart, I believe it to be the sole method by which we can hope to establish ethics upon an empirical founda tion. There has been no lack either of speculative or of psychological essays in the moral sphere, and I am more than ready to give both their due. But I think that we must look to ethics to supply the corner stones of meta physics, of our final and comprehensive View of the universe and so it seems to me inadvisable to reverse the relation of the two disciplines and base moral philosophy upon meta physics. As to psychology, I have personally found it to be so necessary a propaedeutic and so indispensable an aid to ethical investigations, that I do not understand how any one can do without it But the psychology of the moralists belongs for the most part to the days of the older empiricism. It is, to my thinking, altogether too individualistic in its point of view; besides which, it has not advanced beyond that 3 stage of popular thought at which subjective interpretations of facts are naively intermingled with the facts themselves. The straight road to ethics lies, I believe, through et/znzc psychology, whose especial business it is to consider the history of custom and of ethical ideas from the psycho logical standpoint.
