Why This Book? Throughout history, human beings have grappled with fundamental questions: What is the purpose of life? How should we conduct ourselves? What does it mean to live a good and meaningful life? Different civilizations have sought answers through philosophy, religion, and ethical inquiry. While the world has evolved with science and technology, the essence of these questions remains unchanged. This book is a journey through the wisdom of various world philosophies—some well-known, others lesser explored—to uncover timeless lessons on human psychology, character-building, ethics, and logical reasoning. Whether it is Stoicism’s call for resilience, Taoism’s embrace of flow, or Ubuntu’s emphasis on communal harmony, each philosophy provides unique insights into the human experience. The goal of this book is not just to study these philosophies academically but to explore how they can be practically applied in today’s world.

Mobile Mapping written by Clancy Wilmott and has been published by Amsterdam University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-02-05 with Computers categories.

This book argues for a theory of mobile mapping, a situated and spatial approach towards researching how everyday digital mobile media practices are bound up in global systems of knowledge and power. Drawing from literature in media studies and geography - and the work of Michel Foucault and Doreen Massey - it examines how geographical and historical material, social, and cultural conditions are embedded in the way in which contemporary (digital) cartographies are read, deployed, and engaged. This is explored through seventeen walking interviews in Hong Kong and Sydney, as potent discourses like cartographic reason continue to transform and weave through the world in ways that haunt mobile mapping and bring old conflicts into new media. In doing so, Mobile Mapping offers an interdisciplinary rethinking about how multiple translations of spatial knowledges between rational digital epistemologies and tacit ways of understanding space and experience might be conceptualized and researched.

"Here is a well-known story. Before sometime in the early modern period, Europeans believed that knowledge of nature came solely from reading books, above all those of Aristotle. Then the humanist re-discovery and translation of various ancient philosophical works led the number of "authorities" to grow, and alongside a monolithic "Aristotelianism" emerged any number of "-isms": Stoicism, Epicureanism, Platonism, Skepticism, and so on. Gradually, philosophers realized that they need not need rely on authorities at all, and began to use their own reason, coupled with experience and experiment. Scholasticism and humanism were dead, and the "Age of Reason" had begun, with Descartes as its iconoclastic father (perhaps with a little help from Bacon)"--

Maritime Networks In The Mycenaean World written by Thomas F. Tartaron and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-05-27 with Social Science categories.

In this book, Thomas F. Tartaron presents a new and original reassessment of the maritime world of the Mycenaean Greeks of the Late Bronze Age. By all accounts a seafaring people, they enjoyed maritime connections with peoples as distant as Egypt and Sicily. These long-distance relations have been celebrated and much studied; by contrast, the vibrant worlds of local maritime interaction and exploitation of the sea have been virtually ignored. Dr Tartaron argues that local maritime networks, in the form of 'coastscapes' and 'small worlds', are far more representative of the true fabric of Mycenaean life. He offers a complete template of conceptual and methodological tools for recovering small worlds and the communities that inhabited them. Combining archaeological, geoarchaeological and anthropological approaches with ancient texts and network theory, he demonstrates the application of this scheme in several case studies. This book presents new perspectives and challenges for all archaeologists with interests in maritime connectivity.
