This is some of the poetry I have written over the past 30 or so years. It is not complex or brilliant. It is what it is, and that is a group of works from an alcoholic, and drug addict. Some were written sober, but a lot were not. Some are good (I think) and some are crap (I am sure). Either way you may find it amusing, or interesting, if not good. Some of these were written when I was under the influence of drugs and alcohol, and some have been written since I have entered recovery. The oldest poem in this collection was written in 1987, when I was fourteen years old. This edition includes all the poetry from my previous book as well as some never before published ones. The illustrations in this book are done by my middle daughter Sara.

In here is an offering. An offering designed to enlighten and inspire anyone who is on the less traveled road laid out by the 12 steps of recovery. I say less traveled because the numbers of true recoverees is relatively small in comparison to the numbers of people caught in addictions. This collection has been many, many years in the making. I hope that it may bring some light and maybe a little humor to a relatively dark subject. I have tried not to offend sensitive eyes and pallets but there is some language used in the cramped world of users that works when other language doesn't, and some of it is in this collection. I have refrained from vulgarity however and if you can tolerate some compromise I am sure you will be pleasantly rewarded. If you are new to recovery you may be surprised at some of the things here that you thought no one else had ever thought. It is important to remember that the common thread in addiction is the lie that you are the only one who has ever done the things you are doing. There is only so much dysfunction in the world, and when you have been on the road of recovery for a while it becomes amazingly redundant. Everybody is stunned to find out they are not alone in their weirdness. Stunned and then relieved to find out that there is a way out. The bottom line is that we give up a life of using for a life of service. When you find this and come to terms with serving people who usually don't care, and you serve them anyway, then and only then will you start receiving the rewards that await you.

I spent 25 years as a drug addict. I lost/gave away my career as a Court Reporter/Stenographer and went to prison. I was writing throughout my entire journey through active addiction, into prison and then into recovery. I feel that my writings are inspired by God and I was prophesied over twice that I was to write a book. I give all the honor and praise to God. If I could touch one heart, change one life, encourage one person, I would be satisfied. I could not just let these poems sit and collect dust any longer. I am finally ready to share them with whoever will read them. I am so inspired and want to share my experience, strength and hope with anyone struggling with addiction and belief in a Higher Power and anyone that just loves poetry. I pray that these words find the appropriate readers and be a blessing. I have been clean and sober now for ten years and am coming up on my 11th year on December 25, 2022. (Christmas, not by coincidence) I am blessed and highly favored. Most of all, I am extremely grateful for the life I live today and the understanding and wisdom I have gained through my suffering and pain. My gratitude speaks when I share this new way of life I have been given. I have more poetry to come, as I have been writing for 25 years and have saved everything. Grateful beyond words.
