Each morning Pope Francis says Mass and offers a short homily for fellow residents and guests in the chapel of St. Martha's Guesthouse, where he has chosen to live. Through these accounts of his morning homilies, drawn from September 2013 to January 2014, it is now possible, for those not present, to experience and enjoy his lively manner of speaking, and his capacity to engage his listeners and their daily lives with the joy of the gospel message. Most striking is the Pope's intimacy and spontancity. Here is not the voice of a pontiff addressing the cares of the world, the universal church, or even the church of Rome, but a pastor sharing the Word of God with his immediate flock. He directs the message as much to himself as anyone else, acknowledging the same challenges, seeking the same consolation and healing. As in the previous published volume, the homilies are marked by humour and memorable images. But even more important are the themes that arise again and again: the importance of mercy and forgiveness; the role of Jesus as Saviour; the dangers of a church closed in on itself; and the gospel as an unfailing source of life and joy. Book jacket.

From his morning homilies, Pope Francis offers his unforgettable reflections on the gospel. Each morning Pope Francis says Mass and offers a short homily for fellow residents and guests in the chapel of St. Martha's Guesthouse, where he has chosen to live. These homilies reflect the spontaneous and original style that has won hearts throughout the world, as well as his power to communicate the gospel message with depth and freshness. In these accounts of Pope Francis's morning homilies from the first five months of his papacy, it is now possible, for those who were not present, to experience and enjoy his lively manner of spaeking, and his capacity to engage his listeners and their daily lives. Thus, we hear his reflections on the Emmaus disciples who were "simmering their lives in the sauce of their grumbling"; on Christians who must keep facing reality, "ready, like the goalkeeper of a football team, to stop the ball wherever it comes from." The pope speaks of the true God of faith and of "a diffuse god, a god-spray, that is a bit everywhere, but we don't know what it is"; of "intellectuals without talent" and "ethicists without kindness"; of "going to confession like going to the dry cleaners"; of a "holy picture face" which conceals our own sinfulness. But more important than these vivid images are the themes of Pope Francis: the importance of mercy and forgiveness; the role of Jesus as Savior; the dangers of a church closed in on itself; the gospel as a source of life and joy.

Relive through reminiscing and remembering, a Maine pastor's recollections of boyhood experiences that turned into a minister's messages in old age. After five decades (Barry's first message was preached in 1966), travel back in time with a lifelong Maineaic to his home place, the Blackstone homestead of Perham, Maine. What sparked these homilies was his inheritance of seven acres of the family farm, homesteaded in 1861, and the receiving of his grandparent's house built in 1924 at the death of his Uncle Paul. You will probably come to the same conclusion as this coastal Maine pastor--that his seminary training began long before he attended a Bible school in South Carolina in the early 1970s. Flash back with him to the 1950s and 1960s when spiritual lessons were everywhere on his rural potato and dairy farm. Pastor Blackstone didn't know it then, but realizes now that he was surrounded by family Bible teachers and friendly Biblical instructors that eventually would inspire this series of sermons. Homestead Homilies is a collection of scriptural observations inspired by a dog named Rover, an uncle named Read, a moonlit night, a barnyard hedge, a day plowing, a grandmother's helpful hand, a bee hive, a simple prayer, a sparrow's song, and many more simple events in a past age where homilies were being preached and now eventually heard. It is the author's prayer that these simple sermons will provoke the reader to remember long lost messages from their distant past.

The Purpose of this Busy Pastors Sermon Guide: Greetings to my fellow laborers of the Gospel. As a Senior Pastor, I found it difficult at times to have well prepared messages each week. As you know, a Pastor's time is stretched. At times, new ideas and thoughts are hard to develop as our minds are often full of the cares of the church. Sunday Morning Volume 1 is a Busy Pastors Sermon Guide for pastors looking for sermon ideas or outlines. Sermons are easier to prepare if you have the RIGHT RESOURCES and the RIGHT INFORMATION. It is my hope that Sunday Morning Volume 1, Busy Pastors Sermon Guide will provide inspiration, provoke new thoughts for sermons, and remind us all of what is eternally important. It is my desire that even the experienced expositor, as he works his way through this guide, will be refreshed and reminded of helpful principles and truths. Homilies In A New Key written by Harvey D. Egan and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-09-17 with Religion categories.

These homilies on special liturgical feasts, on Jesus Christ, on spiritual topics, on the feasts of celebrated saints, and on special family occasions rethink—creatively but in an orthodox way—significant aspects of Christianity. They resulted, in part, from over sixty years of Jesuit spirituality, philosophical-theological study, graduate and undergraduate university teaching, scholarly research and publishing, and pastoral experience as well. They reflect years of prayerfully contemplating and thinking deeply about the great Christian heritage in the context of the Second Vatican Council, the recent biblical, historical, and theological scholarship, and contemporary issues arising in American culture. More specifically, behind these homilies, there stand, unobtrusively, the philosophical-theological thinking of Karl Rahner and Bernard Lonergan, the historical work of Bernard McGinn on the Christian mystical tradition, and the outstanding biblical scholarship of N. T. Wright. And yet my homilies attempt to remain faithful to the Mass readings and to the catechism of the hearts of those worshiping and prayerfully drinking in God’s word addressed to them. Those who have heard them claim they are “deep,” “existential,” “exceptional,” and “timely.”
