Christopher de Bellaigue, a former contributor to The Economist, brings to light the fascinating story of one of the great anti-colonial heroes of the twentieth century: Muhammad Mossadegh, the great Iranian leader whose untimely demise resulted in the Islamic Revolution of 1979, and a man who has been demonized, ridiculed, and misunderstood in the West while remaining an icon and an inspiration across the Middle East. Patriot of Persia, a new biography exploring his life and impact, opens a crucial new window into Mossadegh—whose role in the evolution of Iran’s political climate cannot be overemphasized—providing a resource that will prove equally invaluable to academics, newshounds, and activists as they struggle to understand Mideast politics, Iran, Ahmadinejad, and the future of the region—and the world.

On 19 August 1953 the British and American intelligence agencies launched a desperate coup against a cussed, bed-ridden 72-year-old. His name was Muhammad Mossadegh and his crimes had been to nationalise his country's oil industry, for forty years in British hands, and to flirt with Communism.

A Profile In Courage written by Ḥasan Ṣadr and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019 with Anglo-Iranian Oil Dispute, 1951-1954 categories.

"Hassan Sadr, the author of previously unpublished notes on Dr. Mossadegh, is historically important for a number of reasons. He was Dr. Mossadegh's personal lawyer at various times; represented the country at the International Court of the Hague during the height of the oil nationalization crisis; and he counseled Dr. Mossadegh at the High Appeals Court immediately after the 1953 coup and the infamous "trial" in the rigged military tribunal. Sadr's notes are important primary sources for understanding of Dr. Mossadegh's thinking-especially about Iranian history, the origins of the oil nationalization campaign, his rejections of the various so-called "compromises" offered made by the West, particularly the World Bank, and finally his detailed criticism of the 1954 Oil Consortium Agreement which he dismissed as "negating" the oil nationalization law. These notes not only reflect Mossadegh's thinking but also reveal much on the behind-the-scenes goings on during the court trials-the stringent restrictions put on defense lawyers as well as the prosecutors failed attempts to sow dissension between Mossadegh and his former ministers. Some of this information has not been revealed before"--

Mohammad Mosaddeq is widely regarded as the leading champion of secular democracy and resistance to foreign domination in Iran's modern history. Mosaddeq became prime minister of Iran in May 1951 and promptly nationalized its British-controlled oil industry, initiating a bitter confrontation between Iraq and Britain that increasingly undermined Mossaddeq's position. He was finally overthrown in August 1953 in a coup d'etat that was organized and led by the United States Central Intelligence Agency. This coup initiated a twenty-five-year period of dictatorship in Iran, leaving many Iranians resentful of the U.S. legacies that still haunt relations between the two countries today. Contents include: "Mosaddeq's Government in Iranian History: Arbitrary Rule, Democracy, and the 1953 Coup" - Homa Katouzian; "Unseating Mosaddeq: The Configuration and Role of Domestic Forces" - Fakhreddin Azimi; "The 1953 Coup in Iran and the Legacy of the Tudeh" - Maziar Behrooz; "Great Britain and the Intervention in Iran, 1953" - Wm. Roger Louis; "The International Boycott of Iranian Oil and the Anti-Mossaddeq Coup of 1953" - Mary Ann Heiss; "The Road to Intervention: Factors Influencing U.S. Policy Toward Iran, 1945-1953" - Malcolm Byrne; "The 1953 Coup d'etat Against Mosaddeq" - Mark J. Queer Sinister Things The Hidden History Of Iran written by Tomas B. Phillips and has been published by Lulu.com this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-02-16 with History categories.

Phillips delivers a refreshingly honest and deeply compelling narrative of the history of modern Iran. With the feel of a great historical novel, Philips pierces through the ideological biases which have shaped our understanding of the Middle East, Cold War and the Iranian people. On every page we witness the complexity of governing a developing nation torn internally by the demands of "liberal" constitutional republicans, radical Socialists and radical Islamists and externally between the opposing powers of East and West. In Queer Sinister Things, Phillips by-passes the version of events dominant in today's academic and media circles, relying instead on the stories provided by those who documented developments in and about Iran as they happened. This living history, highly recommended for students, educators, journalists, policy makers and lovers of history everywhere, will forever change your understanding of this ancient land and its people.

Musaddiq And The Struggle For Power In Iran written by Homa Katouzian and has been published by I.B. Tauris this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Annotation. Muhammad Musaddiq was the first of the great charismatic anti-colonial campaigners of the post-war world. As Prime Minister of Iran between 1951 and 1953 he nationalized the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company, led the nation's defiant attempt to run its oil industry independently during an economic blockade, and attempted to strengthen the role of parliament in Iraq. Mussadiq's crusade led to conflict with powerful foreign interests, and in 1953 the CIA, at British instigation, removed him in a coupd'état which restored the Shah's absolute powers. This book is a full-scale biography of Musaddiq which also charts the history of the Popular Movement from Mussadiq's downfall in 1953 to his death in 1967.
