A brilliant exploration of the natural, medical, psychological, and political facets of fertility When Belle Boggs's "The Art of Waiting" was published in Orion in 2012, it went viral, leading to republication in Harper's Magazine, an interview on NPR's The Diane Rehm Show, and a spot at the intersection of "highbrow" and "brilliant" in New York magazine's "Approval Matrix." In that heartbreaking essay, Boggs eloquently recounts her realization that she might never be able to conceive. She searches the apparently fertile world around her--the emergence of thirteen-year cicadas, the birth of eaglets near her rural home, and an unusual gorilla pregnancy at a local zoo--for signs that she is not alone. Boggs also explores other aspects of fertility and infertility: the way longing for a child plays out in the classic Coen brothers film Raising Arizona; the depiction of childlessness in literature, from Macbeth to Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?; the financial and legal complications that accompany alternative means of family making; the private and public expressions of iconic writers grappling with motherhood and fertility. She reports, with great empathy, complex stories of couples who adopted domestically and from overseas, LGBT couples considering assisted reproduction and surrogacy, and women and men reflecting on childless or child-free lives. In The Art of Waiting, Boggs deftly distills her time of waiting into an expansive contemplation of fertility, choice, and the many possible roads to making a life and making a family.

PREFACEToday, many Christians have become 'questionnaires' like the old Job and Prophet Habakkuk of the 6th Century BC. Their question then was 'Why does a just and Omnipotent God, at times, permit the wicked to flourish while the righteous suffer all sorts of afflictions?' Though the duo concerns then were different, while Job's was personal, Habakkuk's was national, but ours today is universal. Many wonder today, why the meat merchant's children feed on bone; the textile merchant's children wearing rags; and the rich men's children begging for bread to eat. Many ponder over how the wicked prosper the more in their entire endeavour, while the righteous go about in lack. Most surprisingly, it remains unfathomable, how unbelieving women give birth to as many children as they intend, while many believers momentarily and everyday cry out to God (the same One and Holy Creator) for even just a child. Is God no longer listening to those belonging to His household? Are they not what they claim to be -children of God? Could it be because of their hidden sins? Alternatively, maybe God deliberately keep favouring the unbelievers over their counterparts to entice the former to accept Him?To many women affected, couples and homes, this issue concerning 'fruit of the womb', as popularly referred to, forever remains one mystery that can never be fathomed. Though the mystery lies with the Creator Himself, many are as a result of human errors (many result from human blunders). God is involved and Man too is involved. Many will agree with me saying God is involved, that I know easily because we are all aware that nothing happens on this earth without His knowledge, but many also disagree on the note that the same God, in the beginning, charged humans to keep multiplying (procreating). Then the question as to 'how or why' He can be involved in the issue at hand follows. Naturally, humans are known to be bound by errors that now or later affect them, negatively. But "How?" How are humans involved? This question and other hidden ones have their appropriate answers in this book as you read on. Therein, all former victims have been studied, each with her circumstances unique to her, deeply observed accordingly, with contributory factors identified, their human roles to have their story changed, God's responses, and how their situations were eventually changed to success. These have all been highlighted with references to today's experiences and different approaches to solutions suggested to have changed situations like those victims-turned-victors in the olden days, as recorded in the scripture. The concept is basically for everyone affected, directly or indirectly, to identify the most related or nearest approach-to-solutions provided from the many incidents presented in this book, and work individually or as a couple/family through them as the Holy Spirit will direct.

Ready written by Elizabeth Gregory and has been published by Hachette UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-08-07 with Family & Relationships categories.

Over the past three decades, skyrocketing numbers of women have chosen to start their families in their late thirties and early forties. In 2005, ten times as many women had their first child between the ages of 35 and 39 as in 1975, and thirteen times as many had their first between 40 and 44. Women now have the option to define for themselves when they're ready for family, rather than sticking to a schedule set by social convention. As a society, however, we have yet to come to terms with the phenomenon of later motherhood, and women who decide it makes sense for them to delay pregnancy often find themselves confronted with alarmist warnings about the dangers of waiting too long. In Ready, Elizabeth Gregory tracks the burgeoning trend of new later motherhood and demonstrates that for many women today, waiting for family works best. She provides compelling evidence of the benefits of having children later -- by birth or by adoption. Gregory reveals that large numbers of women succeed in having children between 35 and 44 by the usual means (one in seven kids born today has a mom in that age range), and that many of those who don't succeed nonetheless find alternate routes to happy families via egg donation or adoption. And they're glad they waited. Without ignoring the complexities that older women may face in their quest to have children, Gregory reveals the many advantages of waiting: Stronger family focus: Having achieved many of their personal and career goals, new later moms feel ready to focus on family rather than trying to juggle priorities More financial power: New later moms have established careers and make higher salaries Greater self-confidence: New later moms have more career experience, and their management skills translate directly into managing a household and advocating for their children More stable single-parenting: New later moms who are single have more resources High marriage rate: On average, 85 percent of new later moms are married, lending stability to the family structure Longer lives: Evidence indicates that new later moms actually live longer than moms who start their families earlier Based on in-depth interviews with more than 100 new later moms and extensive collateral research, Ready shatters the myths surrounding later motherhood. Drawing on both the statistical evidence and the voices of the new later mothers themselves, Gregory delivers surprising and welcome news that will revolutionize the way we think about motherhood.

“Waiting Upon the Lord” is a prayer journal for expectant mothers. It is an invitation to open your heart to the wonder and mystery that is taking place within you. It is an invitation to pray, to ponder and to prepare for the gift of a new life. We dream of being loving mothers. We want our children to have a better life. We want our children to be happy. But all we really know is what we have experienced from our own mothers and our own families. So I invite you to come away for a little while each day and walk with your Mother Mary, the mother of Jesus. We will do this through mediation and prayer of the first three Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary. Each week has a teaching and special gifts and graces for which to ask. As you pray and ponder the scripture and teachings, you will want to write down any special intentions, thoughts, or answered prayers that you have received. As your heart opens to God’s grace and the companionship of your Mother Mary, you will find that peace and joy fill your heart. Mother Mary will take you and your family under her mantle of protection. Mary is your mother. She loves you. You will come to know the joy of having a mother and a friend by your side every day. And when your precious baby is born, you will know that God is with you and you will never walk alone. When your child matures, you may want to consider giving your journal to them as a gift and an expression of your love for them.

Pregnancy and conception are a program written by God; the baby is born and knows when to suck in air, even though he or she has been surviving via the mother's placenta for the months he has spent in the womb. No one teaches him how to start breathing; it comes naturally. He keeps growing and knows when to roll over, when to sit, crawl, stand, walk, and run. It's incredible to watch and awe-inspiring. It's the same for pregnancy: It is a process specially manufactured by God to replenish mankind through the generations. It is a sacred program in God's laboratory--the masterpiece of God's creation. It is not meant to bring heartbreak, sorrow, or pain. If it does, it is malfunctioning and there is a reason why. Waiting to Conceive walks you through the answers to a great question: Why?
