We need a parenting revolution! Most parenting approaches end up encouraging children to ask the wrong questions about life: What’s in it for me? Are you going to pay me for that? What’s the minimum I need to do to get by? But God’s Word gives us a better way to parent, one that builds strong internal motivation in children. When parents change the way they parent, kids change the way they live. This practical book explores a theology of internal motivation and then gives parents real-life solutions to equip their kids for life. You’ll learn . . . • how to parent in ways that build internal motivation so that kids don’t have to rely on you to get things done. • the four promptings of the conscience and how to coordinate your parenting to take advantage of them. • ways to energize your spiritual training with fun and creativity. • how to help children respond to mistakes instead of blaming, defending, or justifying. The greatest gift you can give your child is strong moral and spiritual development—this book shows you how. Every chapter includes practical examples of families applying the Bible to their current issues. Join the revolution!

Kathryn is on her way to becoming a successful teacher. In her last year of practice teaching, just months away from receiving her teaching credentials, she experiences a serious psychological setback triggered by a Ouija board contact with someone calling himself Nicholas. Kathryn seeks help from a psychologist, Dr. Jensen, but is hesitant to tell Dr. Jensen about this new love in her life, for fear he will think she is crazy. Kathryn is convinced Nicholas is real, however, because she sees him in her dreams. And he gives her evidence that convinces her he truly exists. As he becomes ever more real to Kathryn, it is hard to tell if Nicholas is just a figment of her imagination, or if they have been romantically linked together over hundreds of past lives. When Nicholas invites Kathryn to join him in the other dimension, shes unsure about how this will be achieved. However, she is receptive to his suggestions. Is Nicholas really looking out for Kathryn, or will he lead her to disaster?

Parenting strategies you can be proud of You know the feeling. You got frustrated, desperate, or overwhelmed and you reacted before you could think it through. Whether it’s a one-time thing or it becomes a habit, we all parent in ways we don’t like. But it doesn’t have to continue. Whether it’s bribery, yelling, counting to three, or threats of punishment you didn’t mean to make, reacting never feels good. But if you can learn to act with intentionality, you’ll feel better about your choices and be grateful for the results. Dr. Kathy Koch (pronounced “cook”), author of Screens and Teens and 8 Great Smarts, will teach you proven strategies for training your child’s heart and parenting in a way that honors God. She’ll help you move your child from, “I can’t, I won’t," to “I can, I will, and I did.” We can do better than “Because I said so.” or “No screen time for 3 days.” We can do better than mere behavior modification. We can change our children’s hearts and teach them to do what is good, godly, and right even when we’re not around. Once you’ve learned to put these motivation strategies in place there’s no more need to nag, you’ll be astounded at what your kids will do without being asked. Dr. Kathy doesn’t offer a quick-fix. Starting with the heart is all about changing what children believe in order to change their behavior. And learning to use this kind of motivation takes effort, consistency, and strategy, but it works. And it’s never too late! If you’re willing to commit to a little hard work up front, you’ll enjoy your kids, your life, and yourself much more when you learn to start with the heart.

It is with great honor that I serve as Executive Director of the ISPA. My academic background is in psychology where I have a BA in Psychology from the University of Chicago. My sports background spans over 15 years. From the age of 9 I have competed in quite a few Triathlons and was often the youngest competitor in these races. Over the course of my career, I have completed 4 Ironman Triathlons and 15 Marathons. I have placed in the top three in numerous Triathlons and have won several age group awards. I played varsity baseball in high school as a pitcher. I was recruited to play Division 1 baseball in college, however, my passion for Triathlon won me over and I decided to focus on this and my studies. Sports have always played a major role my life and I feel their effect on me was paramount in my development as a more rounded and confident individual. I strongly believe in the ISPAs mission to raise the level of care athletes receive. I have seen first hand the impact that individuals who work with athletes can have, and it is vitally important that these individuals adhere to the highest ethics and standards of practice in their given fields.
