Eine interdisziplinäre, ganzheitliche Betrachtung der komplexen Erziehungsprozesse in ihren biologischen, psychischen und sozialen Kontexten steht noch aus. Angesichts der immer komplizierter und bedrohlicher werdenden Prozesse auf unserem Planeten werden Bildung und Erziehung und ihre ganzheitliche theoretische Fundierung zu einem Schlüsselfaktor für eine nachhaltige Entwicklung. Dieser Band enthält Beiträge einer Gedenkveranstaltung für den Psychologen und Erziehungswissenschaftler Gerhard Rosenfeld. Sie werden ergänzt durch die Zusammenstellung einiger bereits veröffentlichter und unveröffentlichter Originaltexte von Rosenfeld, Texte in Zusammenarbeit mit Kollegen sowie eine Zusammenstellung ausgewählter Publikationen, Vorträge und Konferenzberichte. Er beinhaltet außerdem zahlreiche Dokumente, die den wissenschaftlichen Werdegang, aber auch die Schwierigkeiten dokumentieren, welche Rosenfeld bei der Durchsetzung seiner theoretischen und praktischen Bemühungen bereitet worden sind. Gefördert von Heinrich Deiters in den Anfangsjahren seines Wissenschaftlerlebens, wirkte er sein Leben lang an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin und gehörte zu den führenden Köpfen der Pädagogik in der DDR. Der Abdruck seines 1950 verfassten, sehr ausführlichen Lebenslaufs zeigt in beeindruckender Weise seinen schwierigen Lebensweg bis zum Beginn seiner wissenschaftlichen Laufbahn. Zunächst äußern sich Freunde, Kollegen und Mitstreiter, die mit ihm gemeinsam gearbeitet haben oder von ihm gefördert worden sind. Increasingly, international governmental networks and organisations make it necessary to master the legal principles of other jurisdictions. Since the advent of international criminal tribunals this need has fully reached criminal law. A large part of their work is based on comparative research. The legal systems which contribute most to this systemic discussion are common law and civil law, sometimes called continental law. So far this dialogue appears to have been dominated by the former. While there are many reasons for this, one stands out very clearly: Language. English has become the lingua franca of international legal research. The present book addresses this issue. How does a city and a nation deal with a legacy of perpetrating atrocity? How are contemporary identities negotiated and shaped in the face of concrete reminders of a past that most wish they did not have? Difficult Heritage focuses on the case of Nuremberg – a city whose name is indelibly linked with Nazism – to explore these questions and their implications. Using an original in-depth research, using archival, interview and ethnographic sources, it provides not only fascinating new material and perspectives, but also more general original theorizing of the relationship between heritage, identity and material culture. The book looks at how Nuremberg has dealt with its Nazi past post-1945. It focuses especially, but not exclusively, on the city’s architectural heritage, in particular, the former Nazi party rally grounds, on which the Nuremburg rallies were staged. The book draws on original sources, such as city council debates and interviews, to chart a lively picture of debate, action and inaction in relation to this site and significant others, in Nuremberg and elsewhere. In doing so, Difficult Heritage seeks to highlight changes over time in the ways in which the Nazi past has been dealt with in Germany, and the underlying cultural assumptions, motivations and sources of friction involved. Whilst referencing wider debates and giving examples of what was happening elsewhere in Germany and beyond, Difficult Heritage provides a rich in-depth account of this most fascinating of cases. It also engages in comparative reflection on developments underway elsewhere in order to contextualize what was happening in Nuremberg and to show similarities to and differences from the ways in which other ‘difficult heritages’ have been dealt with elsewhere. After the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, Austria transformed itself from an empire to a small Central European country. Formerly an important player in international affairs, the new republic was quickly sidelined by the European concert of powers. The enormous losses of territory and population in Austria's post-Habsburg state of existence, however, did not result in a political, economic, cultural, and intellectual black hole. The essays in the twentieth anniversary volume of Contemporary Austrian Studies argue that the small Austrian nation found its place in the global arena of the twentieth century and made a mark both on Europe and the world. Be it Freudian psychoanalysis, the “fin-de-siècle” Vienna culture of modernism, Austro-Marxist thought, or the Austrian School of Economics, Austrian hinkers and ideas were still wielding a notable impact on the world. Alongside these cultural and intellectual dimensions, Vienna remained the Austrian capital and reasserted its strong position in Central European and international business and finance. Innovative Austrian companies are operating all over the globe. This volume also examines how the globalizing world of the twentieth century has impacted Austrian demography, society, and political life. Austria's place in the contemporary world is increasingly determined by the forces of the European integration process. European Union membership brings about convergence and a regional orientation with ramifications for Austria's global role.
