Moving Islands reveals the international and intercultural connections within contemporary performance from Oceania, focusing on theater, performance art, art installations, dance, film, and activist performance in sites throughout Oceania and in Australia, Asia, North America, and Europe. Diana Looser’s study moves beyond a predictable country-specific or island-specific focus to encompass an entire region defined by diversity and global exchange, showing how performance operates to frame social, artistic, and political relationships across widely dispersed locations. The study also demonstrates how Oceanian performance contributes to international debates about diaspora, indigeneity, urbanization, and environmental sustainability. The author considers the region’s unique cultural and geographic dynamics as she brings forth the paradigm of transpasifika to suggest a way of understanding these intercultural exchanges and connections, with the aim to “rework the cartographic and disciplinary priorities of transpacific studies to privilege the activities of Islander peoples.”

While each component poem of Floating Islands can be read as discrete, the whole unfolds as a narrative. With the insights of a novelist (into place and time as well as character) the poet draws us into a three-way exchange between the speakers-Maggie, Amanda and Karen- a mother and her daughters.

Moving Islands written by John Manuel and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-12-10 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

'Moving Islands' is John's seventh memoir book, and it continues very much in the same vein as the previous six, in that it's highly amusing, even laugh-out-loud in places, yet also informative and educational, giving a unique insight into what it's like not only to move to Greece from the UK, but also how one goes about moving from one island to another, a watershed in their lives that neither the author nor his wife had foreseen coming. If you've ever wondered what might be involved in upping sticks and moving house to a different Greek island, always assuming that, like the author, you'd made the life-changing decision to move countries many years earlier, then read this book and you'll either vow never to do it yourself, or to keep this work close-by as a guide for getting through the whole complicated and sometimes hugely frustrating experience.

Floating IslandsA collection of 18 short stories by CHANDRA MOHAN BHANDARI These stories veer around events that tend to define contemporary realities, the human urge for perfection, and ever-present conflicts out there and within. I often walked from one to the other during low tides and returned before the high tide. Often I watched the reversal of the flow of water during the low and high tides. I gradually discovered that this rhythmic variation in the scenario reverberated deep within my psychic layers. He raised his hand bringing it to his forehead as if in salutation to the flag, and retraced his steps. He became emotional and said to himself: "Our ancestors discovered zero, common people like me would someday discover infinity."As the train moved his train of thought also started rushing. Next morning he would be back to the region where he belonged. Before he started his life there was nothing (a zero) and after he would be back there would be nothing (a zero), in between the two zeros he had been moving on a circuitous path coming back to the starting point (another zero). However, the experience he had gained between various zeros was virtually infinite. And she was amazed at the variety of dark corners and crevices in the deep recesses of her mind. It was impossible to guess the happenings in deeper realms of the unconscious. Man's psyche often resembles the subterranean sewer network that bears the burden of city's affluence, culture and life.
