Intertidal mudflats are distinct, highly-productive marine habitats which provide important ecosystem services to the land-sea interface. In contrast to other marine habitats, and despite a large body of primary scientific literature, no comprehensive synthesis exists, such that the scattered knowledge base lacks an integrated conceptual framework. We attempt to provide this synthesis by pulling together and contextualizing the different disciplines, tools, and approaches used in the study of intertidal mudflats. The editor pays particular attention to relationships between the various components of the synthesis, both at the conceptual and the operational levels, validating these relationships through close interaction with the various authors.

The Chinese government is increasingly focusing on ecological construction and has subscribed to a national “Ecological Civilization Construction”. Ecological research and protection practice develop so fast and achieve a lot at the national agenda. This book is a synthesis of five most exciting and dominant themes in contemporary ecological research in China: biodiversity, ecosystem management, degraded ecosystem restoration, global change and sustainable development. This book spans all the Earth's major ecosystems, such as forests, oceans, grasslands, wetlands, lakes, rivers, farmland and cities. This book provides a platform for scientific research across a variety of disciplines. It will be invaluable to experts, policymakers and local officers and will also be a highly useful resource for undergraduate and postgraduate students. This book will allow researchers, students and policymakers outside China to learn about the significant achievements and applications of ecological research within China.

Advances In Coastal Ecology Processes Patterns And Services written by and has been published by BoD – Books on Demand this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-03-05 with Science categories.

Most of the world’s human population lives along the coast, where ecosystems are subject to the environmental degrading impacts brought by the increasing use of plastics, loss of coastal buffers from storms like mangrove forests, and decreasing biodiversity from which ecosystem services spring from. In many cases, as the effects of these changes become more widespread, regions lacking basic information, like the knowledge of what animals reside along a coastline, are being threatened. These developments occur on the complex backdrop of natural processes that shape the geological and sedimentary features of the shore. The clash of the timescales of these changes, short for human-mediated impacts and long for geological ones, creates thought-provoking contrasts and gives insight into what the future may hold for coastal ecosystems. This book presents current research exploring solutions, exposing effects, and describing biological and geological coastline features for the first time in understudied regions of the world. It is an essential text for libraries, classrooms where coastal ecology is taught, and the general readership interested in coastal ecosystems.
