A Passion For Difference written by Henrietta L. Moore and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-05-13 with Social Science categories.

In this new book Henrietta Moore examines the nature and limitations of the theoretical languages used by anthropologists and others to write about sex, gender and sexuality. Moore begins by discussing recent feminist debates on the body and the notion of the non-universal human subject. She then considers why anthropologists have contributed relatively little to these debates, and suggests that this has much to do with the history of anthropological thought with regard to the conceptualization of "persons" and "selves" cross-culturally. Moore develops a specific anthropological approach to feminist post-structuralist and psychoanalytic theory. In subsequent chapters Moore pursues a series of related themes including the links between gender, identity and violence; questions of gender and identity in the context of intra-household resource allocation; the construction of domestic space and its relationship to bodily practices and the internationalization of relations of difference; and the links between the gender of the anthropologist and the writing of anthropology. This volume demonstrates anthropology's contribution to current debates in feminist theory.

This book can be read like a series of short stories - the story of a steel worker who was laid off after twenty years in the same factory and who now struggles to support his family on unemployment benefits and a part-time job; the story of a trade unionist who finds his goals undermined by the changing nature of work; the story of a family from Algeria living in a housing estate in the outskirts of Paris whose members have to cope with pervasive, everyday forms of racism; the story of a school teacher confronted with urban violence; and many others as well. Reading these stories enables one to understand these people's lives and the forms of social suffering which are part of them. And the reader will see that this book offers not only a distinctive method for analysing social life, but also another way of practising politics.

What links women of the Americas? How do they redefine their identities? Lesley Feracho answers these questions through a comparative look at texts by four women writers from across the Americas—Zora Neale Hurston, Julieta Campos, Carolina Maria de Jesus, and Clarice Lispector. She explores how their writing reformulates identity as an intricate connection of the historical, sociocultural, and discursive, and also reveals new understandings of feminine writing as a hybrid discourse in and of itself.

This exciting new textbook provides exceptional coverage of the essential topics taught in a modern operations management course. Its highly current coverage includes contemporary and relevant service theory and applications. Appropriate manufacturing applications and theory are included where relevant. The book's modern/strategic approach addresses OM from a cross-functional perspective, which views operations as linked to all other functional areas of an organization, such as marketing and finance. The strategic approach takes into consideration the integration of technology and how it changes the way a firm operates. Recognition of this current trend is the main differentiating factor for this Collier/Evans text. The book provides equal coverage of manufacturing and services theory and applications, while placing an emphasis on the integration of the value chain.

When Aimee Howard, successful boutique real estate broker and socialite, is visited by a team of federal agents looking to arrest her wayward niece, she hires the best defense money can buy. But Aimee begins to question her confidence in the law firm when she learns they've hired a disgraced former police detective to take the lead. Homicide detective Skye Keaton's shortcuts in the name of justice have finally tipped the scales in the wrong direction. She's lost her job, her pride, and the respect of her family and friends. When an old friend trusts her with a simple task—find a young woman in hiding—she's happy to have the work even though the client is a bossy former debutante who wants to micromanage her every move. Skye reluctantly decides to let Aimee close to the investigation so she can manage Aimee's expectations, but their professional proximity quickly takes a turn toward passion. Despite their best defenses, as they work together to regain what they've lost, both women find the magnetic attraction that develops between them hard to resist.

On a bright day at the Epsom Derby, 4 June 1913, Emily Wilding Davison was hit by the king’s horse in one of the defining moments of the fight for women’s suffrage – what became known as feminism’s first wave. The second wave arose in the late-1960s, activists campaigning tirelessly for women’s liberation, organising around a wildly ambitious slate of issues – a struggle their daughters continued in the third wave that blossomed in the early-1990s. Now, a hundred years on from the campaign for the vote, fifty years since the very first murmurs of the second wave movement, a new tide of feminist voices is rising. Scattered across the world, campaigning online as well as marching in the streets, women are making themselves heard in irresistible fashion. They’re demonstrating against media sexism, domestic violence and sexual assault, fighting for equal pay, affordable childcare and abortion rights. Thousands are sharing their experiences through the Everyday Sexism project, marching in Slutwalk protests, joining demonstrations in the wake of the Delhi gang rape, challenging misogynist behaviour and language, online crusaders and ordinary people organising for the freedom of women everywhere. Kira Cochrane’s All the Rebel Women is an irrepressible exploration of today’s feminist landscape, asking how far we have come over the past century – and how far there still is to go. Whether engaging with leading feminists, describing the fight against rape culture or bringing immediate, powerful life to vital theories such as intersectionality, All the Rebel Women binds everything together into one unstoppable idea. This is modern feminism. This is the fourth wave.
