Os objectivos do estudo foram analisar, numa perspectiva de género, três eixos fundamentais que marcam a realidade das mulheres imigrantes: memórias e identidades, dificuldades de integração em Portugal e projectos de vida. Procurámos, entre outras, responder às seguintes questões: -Como funcionam as redes nas comunidades em causa? Qual o papel das redes enquanto factores desencadeadores da decisão de migrar e qual a sua função real no processo migratório? Qual a relação entre a existência/ausência de redes de apoio e a integração? -Qual a relação entre a família e a migração? As famílias são locais em que se inscrevem relações de poder e em que os interesses dos membros podem estar em conflito. Os interesses das mulheres podem ou não coincidir e podem afectar as decisões sobre quem emigra, por quanto tempo e para que países. Importa compreender de que forma a família e o sistema de patriarcado afectam estas questões. -Outra questão concerne as relações interpessoais entre homens e mulheres. De que forma a relação das mulheres com a família é alterada em resultado da migração? Ou, de outra forma, de que forma o patriarcado é alterado ou reconstituído depois da migração? De que forma a participação das mulheres no mercado de trabalho dos países receptores influencia a autoridade das mulheres nas famílias e a sua sensação de controlo e contribui ou não para os homens assumirem mais responsabilidades domésticas e em relação às crianças. De que forma as migrações afectam as relações de poder entre homens e mulheres e os processos de tomada de decisão e de gestão da economia familiar? - Que factores desencadeiam as decisões de migrar e tornam a migração mais ou menos possível para diferentes mulheres? - De que forma as nacionalidades das imigrantes condicionam a sua integração no país receptor? A integração é mais fácil para algumas comunidades e mais difícil para outras? Que factores condicionam o grau de dificuldade de integração? - Estará uma maior ligação ao passado relacionada com maiores problemas de integração e com projectos de retorno aos países de origem?
