Multi-Component Force Sensing Systems focuses on the design, development, decoupling, and applications of multi-component force sensing systems. Force and moment information can be used as feedback to form an automatic control system to accomplish efficient manipulation. The origins of force measurement and control can be traced back to the late 1970s. Since then, multi-component F/M (force/moment) sensing systems have been widely known and intensively studied. In the past few years, force measurement practices have been significantly affected by new tools (such as digital force gauges, virtual instrumentation, high speed data acquisition systems, etc.) as well as sophisticated measurement methods such as mechano-magnetic, mechano-optical, etc. However, this is the first book to provide an overview of the topic. It will be a useful reference for students in physics and engineering working with robotic sensing systems and robotic systems, in addition to researchers and those working within industry. He is currently the vice director of the Hunan Key Laboratory of Intelligent Robot Technology in Electronic Manufacturing and serving as the assistant director of the National Engineering Laboratory for Robot Vision Perception and Control. He received his Ph.D. degree in control science and engineering from the University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, China, in 2011. His research interests include robotics and mechatronics, biomimetic sensing, advanced robot technology, and human–computer interaction.

Sensors are the key to life and survival - and to the success of modern technology. Nature has provided living creatures with a wealth of sensors for a variety of measurands, such as light, sound, temperature, speed, motion, distance, force, pressure, acceleration, odor and so on - sensors, whose performance and specifications have often not been matched yet by man-made devices. Even at today's high level of electronics and information technology, sensors remain the crucial and decisive interface needed to reliably relate phenomena occurring in the environment to corresponding electric signals that can be processed to obtain the desired information and subsequent correct reaction of systems. Although the literature on sensors is extremely vast, there is one type of sensors which so far has received little attention: the piezoelectric sensor. Certainly, most handbooks on measurement mention briefly this type of sensor yet there is not a single book in the English language dedicated entirelyto piezoelectric sensors and giving a reasonably complete overview. There are only the books by [Gohlke 1955 and 1959] and [Tichy and Gautschi 1980], all in German.

Electromagnetic Nondestructive Evaluation (ENDE) is the process of inducing electric currents, magnetic fields or both within a test object to assess its condition by observing the electromagnetic response. An important tool in fields as diverse as engineering, medicine and art, it does not permanently alter the object being tested, thus proving invaluable for product evaluation, troubleshooting and research. This book presents the proceedings of the 17th International Workshop on Electromagnetic Nondestructive Evaluation (ENDE), held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in July 2012. ENDE workshop is an important event for all scientists with interests in non-destructive testing. The first workshop took place in 1995 in London UK, and has been followed by workshops held in various parts of the world, but this is the first time this workshop series has come to a Latin American country. The workshops bring together scientists and engineers active in research, development and industrial applications of ENDE.
