For more than 30 years, the author has studied the model-theoretic aspects of the theory of valued fields and multi-valued fields. Many of the key results included in this book were obtained by the author whilst preparing the manuscript. Thus the unique overview of the theory, as developed in the book, has been previously unavailable. The book deals with the theory of valued fields and mutli-valued fields. The theory of Prüfer rings is discussed from the `geometric' point of view. The author shows that by introducing the Zariski topology on families of valuation rings, it is possible to distinguish two important subfamilies of Prüfer rings that correspond to Boolean and near Boolean families of valuation rings. Also, algebraic and model-theoretic properties of multi-valued fields with near Boolean families of valuation rings satisfying the local-global principle are studied. It is important that this principle is elementary, i.e., it can be expressed in the language of predicate calculus. The most important results obtained in the book include a criterion for the elementarity of an embedding of a multi-valued field and a criterion for the elementary equivalence for multi-valued fields from the class defined by the additional natural elementary conditions (absolute unramification, maximality and almost continuity of local elementary properties). The book concludes with a brief chapter discussing the bibliographic references available on the material presented, and a short history of the major developments within the field.

Absolute values and their completions – such as the p-adic number fields – play an important role in number theory. Krull's generalization of absolute values to valuations made possible applications in other branches of mathematics. In valuation theory, the notion of completion must be replaced by that of "Henselization". This book develops the theory of valuations as well as of Henselizations, based on the skills of a standard graduate course in algebra.

Entity Oriented Search written by Krisztian Balog and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-10-02 with Computers categories.

This open access book covers all facets of entity-oriented search—where “search” can be interpreted in the broadest sense of information access—from a unified point of view, and provides a coherent and comprehensive overview of the state of the art. It represents the first synthesis of research in this broad and rapidly developing area. Selected topics are discussed in-depth, the goal being to establish fundamental techniques and methods as a basis for future research and development. Additional topics are treated at a survey level only, containing numerous pointers to the relevant literature. A roadmap for future research, based on open issues and challenges identified along the way, rounds out the book. The book is divided into three main parts, sandwiched between introductory and concluding chapters. The first two chapters introduce readers to the basic concepts, provide an overview of entity-oriented search tasks, and present the various types and sources of data that will be used throughout the book. Part I deals with the core task of entity ranking: given a textual query, possibly enriched with additional elements or structural hints, return a ranked list of entities. This core task is examined in a number of different variants, using both structured and unstructured data collections, and numerous query formulations. In turn, Part II is devoted to the role of entities in bridging unstructured and structured data. Part III explores how entities can enable search engines to understand the concepts, meaning, and intent behind the query that the user enters into the search box, and how they can provide rich and focused responses (as opposed to merely a list of documents)—a process known as semantic search. The final chapter concludes the book by discussing the limitations of current approaches, and suggesting directions for future research. Researchers and graduate students are the primary target audience of this book. A general background in information retrieval is sufficient to follow the material, including an understanding of basic probability and statistics concepts as well as a basic knowledge of machine learning concepts and supervised learning algorithms.

This volume constitutes the selected paqpers of the third international conference on Metadata and Semantic Research, MTSR 2009, held in Milan, Italy, in September/October 2009. In order to give a novel perspective in which both theoretical and application aspects of metadata research contribute in the growth of the area, this book mirrors the structure of the Congress, grouping the papers into three main categories: 1) theoretical research: results and proposals, 2) applications: case studies and proposals, 3) special track: metadata and semantics for agriculture, food and environment. The book contains 32 full papers (10 for the first category, 10 for the second and 12 for the third), selected from a preliminary initial set of about 70 submissions.

Valuation Theory And Its Applications written by Franz-Viktor Kuhlmann and has been published by American Mathematical Soc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on with Mathematics categories.

This book is the second of two proceedings volumes stemming from the International Conference and Workshop on Valuation Theory held at the University of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon, SK, Canada). It contains the most recent applications of valuation theory to a broad range of mathematical ideas. Valuation theory arose in the early part of the twentieth century in connection with number theory and continues to have many important applications to algebra, geometry, and analysis. The research and survey papers in this volume cover a variety of topics, including Galois theory, the Grunwald-Wang Theorem, algebraic geometry, resolution of singularities, curves over Prufer domains, model theory of valued fields and the Frobenius, Hardy fields, Hensel's Lemma, fixed point theorems, and computations in valued fields. It is suitable for graduate students and research mathematicians interested in algebra, algebraic geometry, number theory, and mathematical logic.
