Multicultural and multinational teams have become an important strategic and structural element of organizational work in our globalized world today. These teams are demonstrating their importance from the factory floors to the boardrooms of contemporary organizations. The emergence of multicultural teams is evident across a variety of organizations in the private, public, and civil society sectors. These developments have led to an increasing interest in the theory and practice of multicultural teams. Management educational and training programs are giving increasing attention to these developments. At the same time, there is emerging interest in research about and study of multicultural teams. This book emerged from our teaching, research, and consulting with multic- tural and diverse teams in multiple sectors over the last several years. In particular, we have developed and refined our ideas about the concepts in this book from teaching an advanced course called Effective Multicultural Teams in the Graduate Program at the School for International Training (SIT) in Vermont. We have learned from the rich background of students who are from, and have worked in, six con- nents, and who are, or plan to be, working in the public, educational, not-for-profit, and for-profit sectors. Additionally, we have engaged with a variety of teams through our consulting and training, providing consultation to teams in a variety of sectors and continents as they struggled to become more effective.

Churches and mission agencies are increasingly characterized by cultural diversity. As a result, many Christians find themselves working as part of a multicultural team. Team leaders need to know how to help team members grow in particular qualities and acquire specific skills related to multicultural teamwork. This book integrates insights from the Bible, team theory, leadership, and intercultural studies to explain how leaders of multicultural teams can help their teams become enriching and enjoyable contexts to work in, at the same time as achieving their purpose.

"A person who works in a multicultural team becomes a witness and a leader...It can be really hard work, and it is important to walk into a team with a humble attitude of serving God and each other."Multicultural teams are becoming more common both in the business world and the Christian world. We increasingly work with people from other cultures--and despite our best intentions, we find this can be difficult and uncomfortable. We can disagree over how decisions are made, what the leader should do, how the team should work...and an unexpected explosion can destroy our team.As challenging as they may be, as Christians we are compelled to work well within multicultural teams. An effective multicultural team can bear witness to the fact that Jesus has the power to overcome cultural differences and national boundaries. When we form such a team, we take a deliberate step towards God's goal of bringing together a great multitude from every nation, tribe, people and language. What does this look like? How do Bible-based multicultural teams work in practice? This book aims to look at the most common issues that face multicultural teams, and help equip team members and leaders to address them, including: dealing with team changes, choosing team members, preparing one's team, communication styles, effective team meetings and conflict resolution.

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2014 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 2,3, EBC University Stuttgart, course: International Business Management, language: English, abstract: As a result of the increasing globalization the business world gets interconnected and more and more organizations are operating internationally. Such multinational companies often rely on successful teamwork to reach goals and to compete on the fast-paced global market. Indeed, teamwork plays a variety of important roles; when employees with varying skill sets and ideas are working together in a team not only information and knowledge can be shared, successful teamwork can also lead to faster results. A group of employees clearly can achieve more than one individual alone. Teams, whose members come from different nations and backgrounds place special demands on operations, diversity clearly adds complexity and a longer learning curve for establishing effective processes. In the multicultural team, obviously, culture itself is one significant characteristic, in addition the role of emotions in the team have gained increasing interest in the last years. Nevertheless, research in this field is scarce and through adding an additional variable – culture, the multicultural character is making research even more complicate. Practitioners report that where people work together, emotions are not far to seek. While influencing our thinking and behavior, the effects of emotions and the resulting behavior can either be positive, or negative. In multicultural teams an awareness of emotions seems to be especially important as cultural differences in emotion processing and diversity among members may cause negative emotion and lead to conflict and misunderstandings what may have serious consequences reducing performance. The aim of this paper is to identify challenges for multinational teams focusing on emotions within the team, and to propose emotional intelligence as an approach to multicultural team effectiveness. The two research questions guiding this work are: 1. What role do emotions play in the multicultural team? 2. Is emotional intelligence connected with multicultural team effectiveness?

Multicultural Teams outperform other teams when you need creativity, commitment and buy in - but only if they are designed and managed well. This book will explain how to design and manage your multicultural team well, and how to create and sustain a learn-from-differences environment. Dr. Robin gives practical suggestions from research on how to design your team and then explains how you can leverage diverse perspectives within the team to maximize creative problem solving. These include: A clear, motivating focus that requires team members to engage in a conversation about why the mission is important strategically to the organization and personally to them; An understanding of how important designing the team well is, while knowing how to make the right intervention into the group process at the right time; Metrics that measure output, learning and satisfaction; The right degree of empowerment and the right type of team given your task and members; And the use of interlocking skills that maximize learning within the team. Every team leader's skills toolbox should include transformational listening, using names with ideas, and motivating others. The multicultural team management skills toolbox must also include the ability to give culturally-appropriate feedback, minority influence strategies, and attention to both process and output solutions to balance direct and indirect cultural styles.

Bachelorarbeit aus dem Jahr 2006 im Fachbereich BWL - Unternehmensf hrung, Management, Organisation, Note: 1,7, FOM Essen, Hochschule f r Oekonomie & Management gemeinn tzige GmbH, Hochschulleitung Essen fr her Fachhochschule, 112 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: This bachelor thesis gives information on how to succeed with teamwork in a cross-border and multicultural context, which is of major importance in the case of international mergers and acquisitions (M&As). A company's management and people in charge of international teams not only face cultural diversity and the implications that come with it, but also the question of how to get teams to be most effective. What kind of leadership is most appropriate for teams and what factors influence teams in their efficiency are two of the most important questions to be answered. For that reason the present thesis concentrates on some of the major theories on M&As, culture, leadership, and team effectiveness and applies them to a practical example: European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company N.V. (EADS), a company that emerged from three culturally different companies in 2000 and that faced and still faces the challenges mentioned above. People from France, Germany, and Spain now need to work together to accomplish common goals, often by means of teamwork. The reader gets to know how EADS perceives and handles cultural diversity, exercises leadership, and achieves team effectiveness. The theory elements selected before serve as a guideline to see how EADS' actions affected the challenges they faced. These findings from secondary sources together with in-depth interviews with a senior executive at EADS and other experts on multicultural teamwork provide the basis for recommendations on how to cope with cultural diversity after a merger or acquisition. These especially focus on what should be considered in this respect to make the transaction succeed after all. Critical comments
