Preconditioning And The Conjugate Gradient Method In The Context Of Solving Pdes written by Josef Malek and has been published by SIAM this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-12-22 with Mathematics categories.
Preconditioning and the Conjugate Gradient Method in the Context of Solving PDEs is about the interplay between modeling, analysis, discretization, matrix computation, and model reduction. The authors link PDE analysis, functional analysis, and calculus of variations with matrix iterative computation using Krylov subspace methods and address the challenges that arise during formulation of the mathematical model through to efficient numerical solution of the algebraic problem. The book?s central concept, preconditioning of the conjugate gradient method, is traditionally developed algebraically using the preconditioned finite-dimensional algebraic system. In this text, however, preconditioning is connected to the PDE analysis, and the infinite-dimensional formulation of the conjugate gradient method and its discretization and preconditioning are linked together. This text challenges commonly held views, addresses widespread misunderstandings, and formulates thought-provoking open questions for further research.

This comprehensive book is presented in two parts; the first part introduces the basics of matrix analysis necessary for matrix computations, and the second part presents representative methods and the corresponding theories in matrix computations. Among the key features of the book are the extensive exercises at the end of each chapter. Matrix Analysis and Computations provides readers with the matrix theory necessary for matrix computations, especially for direct and iterative methods for solving systems of linear equations. It includes systematic methods and rigorous theory on matrix splitting iteration methods and Krylov subspace iteration methods, as well as current results on preconditioning and iterative methods for solving standard and generalized saddle-point linear systems. This book can be used as a textbook for graduate students as well as a self-study tool and reference for researchers and engineers interested in matrix analysis and matrix computations. It is appropriate for courses in numerical analysis, numerical optimization, data science, and approximation theory, among other topics

Finite And Boundary Element Tearing And Interconnecting Solvers For Multiscale Problems written by Clemens Pechstein and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-14 with Mathematics categories.
Tearing and interconnecting methods, such as FETI, FETI-DP, BETI, etc., are among the most successful domain decomposition solvers for partial differential equations. The purpose of this book is to give a detailed and self-contained presentation of these methods, including the corresponding algorithms as well as a rigorous convergence theory. In particular, two issues are addressed that have not been covered in any monograph yet: the coupling of finite and boundary elements within the tearing and interconnecting framework including exterior problems, and the case of highly varying (multiscale) coefficients not resolved by the subdomain partitioning. In this context, the book offers a detailed view to an active and up-to-date area of research.

Iliev and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-06-04 with Mathematics categories.
One of the current main challenges in the area of scientific computing is the design and implementation of accurate numerical models for complex physical systems which are described by time dependent coupled systems of nonlinear PDEs. This volume integrates the works of experts in computational mathematics and its applications, with a focus on modern algorithms which are at the heart of accurate modeling: adaptive finite element methods, conservative finite difference methods and finite volume methods, and multilevel solution techniques. Fundamental theoretical results are revisited in survey articles and new techniques in numerical analysis are introduced. Applications showcasing the efficiency, reliability and robustness of the algorithms in porous media, structural mechanics and electromagnetism are presented. Researchers and graduate students in numerical analysis and numerical solutions of PDEs and their scientific computing applications will find this book useful.

This state-of-the-art survey features topics related to the impact of multicore, manycore, and coprocessor technologies in science and for large-scale applications in an interdisciplinary environment. The papers cover issues of current research in mathematical modeling, design of parallel algorithms, aspects of microprocessor architecture, parallel programming languages, hardware-aware computing, heterogeneous platforms, manycore technologies, performance tuning, and requirements for large-scale applications. The contributions presented in this volume offer a survey on the state of the art, the concepts and perspectives for future developments. They are an outcome of an inspiring conference conceived and organized by the editors at the Karlsruhe Institute Technology (KIT) in September 2011. The twelve revised full papers presented together with two contributed papers focus on combination of new aspects of microprocessor technologies, parallel applications, numerical simulation, and software development; thus they clearly show the potential of emerging technologies in the area of multicore and manycore processors that are paving the way towards personal supercomputing and very likely towards exascale computing.

Iterative Solution Of Large Sparse Systems Of Equations written by Wolfgang Hackbusch and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-06-21 with Mathematics categories.
In the second edition of this classic monograph, complete with four new chapters and updated references, readers will now have access to content describing and analysing classical and modern methods with emphasis on the algebraic structure of linear iteration, which is usually ignored in other literature. The necessary amount of work increases dramatically with the size of systems, so one has to search for algorithms that most efficiently and accurately solve systems of, e.g., several million equations. The choice of algorithms depends on the special properties the matrices in practice have. An important class of large systems arises from the discretization of partial differential equations. In this case, the matrices are sparse (i.e., they contain mostly zeroes) and well-suited to iterative algorithms. The first edition of this book grew out of a series of lectures given by the author at the Christian-Albrecht University of Kiel to students of mathematics. The second edition includes quite novel approaches.

Robust Algebraic Multilevel Methods And Algorithms written by Johannes Kraus and has been published by Walter de Gruyter this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-09-04 with Mathematics categories.
This book deals with algorithms for the solution of linear systems of algebraic equations with large-scale sparse matrices, with a focus on problems that are obtained after discretization of partial differential equations using finite element methods. The authors provide a systematic presentation of the recent advances in robust algebraic multilevel methods and algorithms, e.g., the preconditioned conjugate gradient method, algebraic multilevel iteration (AMLI) preconditioners, the classical algebraic multigrid (AMG) method and its recent modifications, namely AMG using element interpolation (AMGe) and AMG based on smoothed aggregation. The first six chapters can serve as a short introductory course on the theory of AMLI methods and algorithms. The next part of the monograph is devoted to more advanced topics, including the description of new generation AMG methods, AMLI methods for discontinuous Galerkin systems, looking-free algorithms for coupled problems etc., ending with important practical issues of implementation and challenging applications. This second part is addressed to some more experienced students and practitioners and can be used to complete a more advanced course on robust AMLI and AMG methods and their efficient application. This book is intended for mathematicians, engineers, natural scientists etc.
