This book on multimedia tools for communicating mathematics arose from presentations at an international workshop organized by the Centro de Matemtica e Aplicacoes Fundamentais at the University of Lisbon, in November 2000, with the collaboration of the Sonderforschungsbereich 288 at the University of Technology in Berlin, and of the Centre for Experimental and Constructive Mathematics at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, Canada. The MTCM2000 meeting aimed at the scientific methods and algorithms at work inside multimedia tools, and it provided an overview of the range of present multimedia projects, of their limitations and the underlying mathematical problems. This book presents some of the tools and algorithms currently being used to create new ways of making enhanced interactive presentations and multimedia courses. It is an invaluable and up-to-date reference book on multimedia tools presently available for mathematics and related subjects.

The digital era has dramatically changed the ways that researchers search, produce, publish, and disseminate their scientific work. These processes are still rapidly evolving due to improvements in information science, new achievements in computer science technologies, and initiatives such as DML and open access journals, digitization projects, sci

Mathematical Software written by Arjeh M. Cohen and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002 with Mathematics categories.

Annotation The advent of mathematical software has been one of the most important events in mathematics. Mathematical software systems are used to construct examples, to prove theorems, and to find new mathematical phenomena. On the other hand, mathematical research often motivates developments of new algorithms and new systems. Mathematical software systems rely on the cooperation of mathematicians, designers of algorithms, and mathematical programmers. This book is aimed at software developers in mathematics and programming mathematicians, but it also provides opportunities to discuss the topics with mathematicians.

This collective book aims to encourage and inspire actions directed towards raising public awareness of the importance of mathematical sciences for our contemporary society in a cultural and historical perspective. Mathematical societies, in Europe and around the world, can find ideas, blueprints and suggestions for activities – including concerted actions with other international organizations – directed towards raising public awareness of science, technology and other fields where mathematics plays a strong role. The material is divided into four parts: • National experiences • Exhibitions / mathematical museums • Popularization activities • Popularization: why and how?

Mathematical Visualization aims at an abstract framework for fundamen tal objects appearing in visualization and at the application of the manifold visualization techniques to problems in geometry, topology and numerical mathematics. The articles in this volume report on new research results in this field, on the development of software and educational material and on mathematical applications. The book grew out of the third international workshop "Visualization and Mathematics", which was held from May 22-25, 2002 in Berlin (Germany). The workshop was funded by the DFG-Sonderforschungsbereich 288 "Dif ferential Geometry and Quantum Physics" at Technische Universitat Berlin and supported by the Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB) and the DFG research cen ter "Mathematics for Key Technologies" (FZT 86) in Berlin. Five keynote lectures, eight invited presentations and several contributed talks created a stimulating atmosphere with many scientific discussions. The themes of this book cover important recent developments in the fol lowing fields: - Geometry and Combinatorics of Meshes - Discrete Vector Fields and Topology - Geometric Modelling - Image Based Visualization - Software Environments and Applications - Education and Communication We hope that the research articles of this book will stimulate the readers' own work and will further strenghten the development of the field of Mathe matical Visualization. VI Preface We appreciate the thorough work of the authors and reviewers on each of the individual articles, and we thank you all.

Graph algorithms are easy to visualize and indeed there already exists a variety of packages to animate the dynamics when solving problems from graph theory. Still it can be difficult to understand the ideas behind the algorithm from the dynamic display alone. CATBox consists of a software system for animating graph algorithms and a course book which we developed simultaneously. The software system presents both the algorithm and the graph and puts the user always in control of the actual code that is executed. In the course book, intended for readers at advanced undergraduate or graduate level, computer exercises and examples replace the usual static pictures of algorithm dynamics. For this volume we have chosen solely algorithms for classical problems from combinatorial optimization, such as minimum spanning trees, shortest paths, maximum flows, minimum cost flows, weighted and unweighted matchings both for bipartite and non-bipartite graphs. Algebra Geometry And Software Systems written by Michael Joswig and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-03-14 with Mathematics categories.

In many fields of modern mathematics specialised scientific software becomes increasingly important. Hence, tremendous effort is taken by numerous groups all over the world to develop appropriate solutions. This book contains surveys and research papers on mathematical software and algorithms. The common thread is that the field of mathematical applications lies on the border between algebra and geometry. Topics include polyhedral geometry, elimination theory, algebraic surfaces, Gröbner bases, triangulations of point sets and the mutual relationship. This diversity is accompanied by the abundance of available software systems which often handle only special mathematical aspects. Therefore the volume's other focus is on solutions towards the integration of mathematical software systems. This includes low-level and XML based high-level communication channels as well as general framework for modular systems.
