Quantum Chromodynamics, which describe the interactions of quarks and gluons, have been found not to violate global parity symmetry. However, the possibility of local parity violations due to transitions in the vacuum state of QCD is not excluded. The effects of these parity violations could be measured in the hot and dense medium created in the ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions experiment conducted at the Large Hadron Collider, called a Quark-Gluon Plasma, in which the quarks that compose most of ordinary matter are deconfined. In the strong magnetic fields which permeate the QGP in non-central collisions, parity violation would express itself as a charge asymetry with respect to the reaction plane, a phenomenon called the Chiral Magnetic Effect. The measurements of the charge-dependent correlations in a heavy-ion collisions allows to experimentally probe effects of the CME. These measurements are conducted via the use of the second harmonic two-particle correlator with respect to the reaction plane, $\langle\cos(\phi_{a}+\phi_{b}-2\psi)\rangle$ The background affecting these measurements is the consequence of an interplay of strong anisotropic flow and correlations unrelated to the CME. Correlations with respect to the fourth harmonic, $\langle\cos(2\phi_{a}+2\phi_{b}-4\psi)\rangle$, are insensitive to the CME and can be used to estimate the magnitude of these background effects. In this thesis, we present results from charge-dependent correlations with respect to both the second and fourth harmonic event planes measured in Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 2.76$ TeV at the LHC using data from the ALICE detector. We also present calculations of the ratio of the fourth to second harmonics based on the blast-wave model, which serve as a baseline to understand how these background effects scale between one harmonic and another.

The second-order azimuthal anisotropy Fourier harmonics, v2, are obtained in p-Pb and PbPb collisions over a wide pseudorapidity ([eta]) range based on correlations among six or more charged particles. The p-Pb data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35 nb-1, were collected during the 2013 LHC p-Pb run at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV by the CMS experiment. A sample of semiperipheral PbPb collision data at √sNN=2.76 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.5 [mu]b-1 and covering a similar range of particle multiplicities as the p-Pb data, is also analyzed for comparison. The six- and eight-particle cumulant and the Lee-Yang zeros methods are used to extract the v2 coefficients, extending previous studies of two- and four-particle correlations. For both the p-Pb and PbPb systems, the v2 values obtained with correlations among more than four particles are consistent with previously published four-particle results. These data support the interpretation of a collective origin for the previously observed long-range (large [Delta][eta]) correlations in both systems. The ratios of v2 values corresponding to correlations including different numbers of particles are compared to theoretical predictions that assume a hydrodynamic behavior of a p-Pb system dominated by fluctuations in the positions of participant nucleons. These results provide new insights into the multiparticle dynamics of collision systems with a very small overlapping region.

Experimental measurements from dihadron correlations triggered with very high-p[subscript]T particles in Pb+Pb collisions at 2.76 TeV are shown. The data set was collected by the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 150 [mu]b−1. The use of high-p[subscript]T track triggers made it possible to study dihadron correlations up to p[subscript]T ~ 50 GeV/c. The presence of azimuthal anisotropies of final state particles in non-central Pb+Pb collisions gives rise to single-particle correlations that are characterized by the Fourier harmonics, v[subscript]n. To isolate the jet components of the correlations, the v2-v4 components are subtracted from the correlations and the per-trigger-particle associated-yields on the near and away side are studied. The data are compared to correlations from p+p collisions at the same center-of-mass energy over a wide range of trigger and associated-particle p[subscript]T and as a function of Pb+Pb event centrality. On the near-side there is evidence of moderate enhancement at low p[superscript]assc [subscript]T. On the away side there is a significant enhancement at p[superscript]assc [subscript]T ~ 0.5 GeV/c and at higher transverse momentum, p[superscript]assc [subscript]T > 3 GeV/c, there is a suppression of about 50% compared to p+p collisions.

Our measurements of multiparticle azimuthal correlations (cumulants) for charged particles in p-Pb at √sNN=5.02 TeV and Pb-Pb at √sNN=2.76 TeV collisions are presented. They help address the question of whether there is evidence for global, flowlike, azimuthal correlations in the p-Pb system. These comparisons are made to measurements from the larger Pb-Pb system, where such evidence is established. In particular, the second harmonic two-particle cumulants are found to decrease with multiplicity, characteristic of a dominance of few-particle correlations in p-Pb collisions. However, when a.

The relative yields of [upsilon] mesons produced in p + p and Pb+Pb collisions at [square root] s[subscript NN] = 5.02 TeV and reconstructed via the dimuon decay channel are measured using data collected by the CMS experiment. Double ratios are formed by comparing the yields of the excited states, [upsilon](2S) and [upsilon](3S), to the ground state, [upsilon](1S), in both Pb+Pb and p + p collisions at the same energy. The double ratios, [[upsilon](nS)/[upsilon](1S)][subscript PbPb] /[[upsilon](nS)/[upsilon](1S)][subscript pp] ,are measured to be 0.308 ± 0.055 (stat) ± 0.019 (syst) for the [upsilon](2S) and less than 0.26 at 95% confidence level for the [upsilon](3S). The double ratios are studied as a function of collision centrality, as well as dimuon transverse momentum, and rapidity. As a function ofcollision centrality the [upsilon](2S) double ratio is consistent with unity in the most peripheral (70–100%) bin and is consistent with zero in the most central (0–5%) bin. The [upsilon](2S) double ratio is consistent with a constant dependence on the kinematic variables, with a large suppression seen throughout the studied kinematic range. No significant [upsilon](3S) signal is found in the Pb+Pb data. The [upsilon](3S) double ratio is consistently below unity for all bins, including the most peripheral (50–100%) bin, indicating a strong suppression of the [upsilon](3S) relative to the [upsilon](1S).

The space-time evolution of the source of particles formed in the collision of nuclei can be studied through particle correlations. The STAR experiment is dedicated to study ultra-relativistic heavy ions collisions and allows to measure non-identical strange particle correlations. The source size can be extracted by studying p - {Lambda}, {bar p} - {bar {Lambda}}, {bar p} - {Lambda} and p - {bar {Lambda}} correlation functions. Strong interaction potential has been studied for these systems using an analytical model. Final State Interaction (FSI) parameters have been determined and has shown a significant annihilation process present in {bar p} - {Lambda} and p - {bar {Lambda}} systems not present in p - {Lambda} and {bar p} - {bar {Lambda}}.
