The purpose of this CIME summer school was to present current areas of research arising both in the theoretical and applied setting that involve fully nonlinear partial different equations. The equations presented in the school stem from the fields of Conformal Mapping Theory, Differential Geometry, Optics, and Geometric Theory of Several Complex Variables. The school consisted of four courses: Extremal problems for quasiconformal mappings in space by Luca Capogna, Fully nonlinear equations in geometry by Pengfei Guan, Monge-Ampere type equations and geometric optics by Cristian E. Gutiérrez, and On the Levi Monge Ampere equation by Annamaria Montanari.

This book provides an introduction to the broad topic of the calculus of variations. It addresses the most natural questions on variational problems and the mathematical complexities they present. Beginning with the scientific modeling that motivates the subject, the book then tackles mathematical questions such as the existence and uniqueness of solutions, their characterization in terms of partial differential equations, and their regularity. It includes both classical and recent results on one-dimensional variational problems, as well as the adaptation to the multi-dimensional case. Here, convexity plays an important role in establishing semi-continuity results and connections with techniques from optimization, and convex duality is even used to produce regularity results. This is then followed by the more classical Hölder regularity theory for elliptic PDEs and some geometric variational problems on sets, including the isoperimetric inequality andthe Steiner tree problem. The book concludes with a chapter on the limits of sequences of variational problems, expressed in terms of Γ-convergence. While primarily designed for master's-level and advanced courses, this textbook, based on its author's instructional experience, also offers original insights that may be of interest to PhD students and researchers. A foundational understanding of measure theory and functional analysis is required, but all the essential concepts are reiterated throughout the book using special memo-boxes.

This volume gathers contributions in the field of partial differential equations, with a focus on mathematical models in phase transitions, complex fluids and thermomechanics. These contributions are dedicated to Professor Gianni Gilardi on the occasion of his 70th birthday. It particularly develops the following thematic areas: nonlinear dynamic and stationary equations; well-posedness of initial and boundary value problems for systems of PDEs; regularity properties for the solutions; optimal control problems and optimality conditions; feedback stabilization and stability results. Most of the articles are presented in a self-contained manner, and describe new achievements and/or the state of the art in their line of research, providing interested readers with an overview of recent advances and future research directions in PDEs.

Principles Of Dynamic Optimization written by Piernicola Bettiol and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-06-18 with Mathematics categories.
This monograph explores key principles in the modern theory of dynamic optimization, incorporating important advances in the field to provide a comprehensive, mathematically rigorous reference. Emphasis is placed on nonsmooth analytic techniques, and an in-depth treatment of necessary conditions, minimizer regularity, and global optimality conditions related to the Hamilton-Jacobi equation is given. New, streamlined proofs of fundamental theorems are incorporated throughout the text that eliminate earlier, cumbersome reductions and constructions. The first chapter offers an extended overview of dynamic optimization and its history that details the shortcomings of the elementary theory and demonstrates how a deeper analysis aims to overcome them. Aspects of dynamic programming well-matched to analytical techniques are considered in the final chapter, including characterization of extended-value functions associated with problems having endpoint and state constraints, inverse verification theorems, sensitivity relationships, and links to the maximum principle. This text will be a valuable resource for those seeking an understanding of dynamic optimization. The lucid exposition, insights into the field, and comprehensive coverage will benefit postgraduates, researchers, and professionals in system science, control engineering, optimization, and applied mathematics.
