The Poly Traumatized Patient With Fractures written by Hans-Christoph Pape and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-08-28 with Medical categories.

This guide provides practical information on the care of patients with blunt injuries that will be invaluable for emergency personnel, trauma surgeons, orthopaedic traumatologists, and anesthesiologists. The management of both truncal injuries (head, chest, abdomen) and fractures of the extremities, the pelvis, and the spine is covered in a condensed fashion, emphasizing key information. Care is taken to highlight associated injuries that may alter the decision making in patients with polytrauma. The new, revised edition takes full account of three major developments of recent years, namely the increasing economic pressure on health care systems, including trauma care, the changes in trauma systems and related education, and the improved survival of polytrauma patients. In view of the greater recognition of the physical and psychological long-term sequelae of major injuries, post-traumatic stress disorder is discussed in depth in this new edition.

Traumatic Stress And Its Aftermath written by Sandra Lee and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-09-13 with Medical categories.

Explore the aftermath of traumatic stress as it affects various populations, including therapists themselves! This book will educate you about the aftermath of traumatic stress as it impacts people in a variety of settings. It explores the factors that lead to increased or reduced vulnerability to the effects of traumatic stress, emphasizing the impact of cumulative/multiple trauma rather than the effects of a single traumatic incident, to help you design and implement effective prevention and intervention programs. The specific populations and groups addressed in this important book include: adolescent girls involved in armed conflict in Colombia’s guerilla war urban African-American youth—a theoretical model for risk and resiliency people with strong spiritual/religious beliefs—how spirituality can affect a person’s reaction to traumatic stress women in recovery in a community aftercare shelter female trauma therapists—factors affecting vicarious traumatization of helping professionals college students with histories of abuse Providing a framework for understanding traumatic stress-related issues based on a variety of methodologies and measures, Traumatic Stress and Its Aftermath addresses important questions, such as: What is the relationship between the experiences of trauma or other stressful life events, and subsequent traumatic stress? What are the protective factors that can buffer or ameliorate the development of traumatic stress in the face of adverse life experiences, trauma, or other stressful events? How do these questions evolve in different cultural or community contexts, and with different populations? What are the implications for interventions for community institutions and mental health workers? What roles do self-esteem and spirituality play in a person’s reaction to traumatic stress? How do reactions to traumatic stress differ between women who have been sexually abused as children and women who have not? From editor Sandra S. Lee: “Contemporary developments in the study of traumatic stress are shifting. This book reflects an emphasis on the study of traumatic stress in normal community, cultural, or college student populations and groups, while other literature has focused on individuals specifically diagnosed with PTSD. In addition, Traumatic Stress and Its Aftermath: Cultural, Community, and Professional Contexts emphasizes the search for risk and protective factors and factors that can buffer the relationship between trauma exposure and subsequent distress.”

l. A. STURM In modern society, trauma remains the number one cause of death in people under 50 years, but, despite this, very little attention has been paid to trauma care compared with other diseases such as malignancy or myocardial infarction (Table 1). The efforts that have been made in medical care, however, have showed some success; for example although the frequency of traffic accidents in the Federal Republic of Germany has remained constant over the years, the number of deaths resulting from them has decreased (Fig. 1). The results of improvements in rescue systems, surgical techniques, and intensive care are evident, as shown by a review of the statistics of about 3000 multiple trauma patients treated in the last 15 years at the trauma de partment of Hannover Medical School which reflects the progress that has been made in medical care. After the problem posed by posttraumatic kidney failure had been solved in the 1960s and 1970s, the adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) became the biggest problem in the 1970s and 1980s (Fig. 2). ARDS as a single entity disappeared in the literature in the early 1980s and was replaced by the so-called multiple organ failure (MOF) syndrome. Between 1985 and 1990 35% of the patients in our intensive care unit developed MOF, and 70% of them died. Overall MOF mortality has remained constant since 1985 at about 20% (Fig. 3).
