The fascinating true story of how one passionate and determined policeman solved the murder mystery of suburban mum Judith Brown -- against all the odds. Judith Brown, a mother of three, was murdered in her Anna Bay home, just north of Newcastle, on 2 June 2000. Detective Sergeant Peter Fox from Maitland Police Station led the murder investigation. Early suspicions indicated Judith Brown might have fallen victim to a botched break-in. With no eyewitnesses and the forensic evidence not pointing to a single suspect, investigators were left with little to go on. With in weeks of the murder, Peter Fox's team was reduced to one, with the support of Crime Scene Examiner, Detective Senior Constable Peter Muscio. Against advice to take what he had to a Coronial Inquiry and with a growing workload, Peter Fox continued his investigations into Judith's Brown s murder. A suspect emerged, though there was insufficient evidence to make an arrest. Driven to see justice done, he continued to gather evidence, spending part of every day following up leads. After 18 months Peter finally put together a compiling, though circumstantial case against his suspect. It was a risk. Some of Peter's colleagues still didn't believe the evidence would stand the scrutiny of a trial. Three years after Judith Brown's murder, Peter Fox's suspect faced trial in the Newcastle Supreme Court. The jury would hear not all of Peter's evidence, most importantly, what Peter believed to be the motive for the murder. Peter, himself, would be accused of being obsessive, while every piece of physical evidence was attacked for supporting only what Peter Fox wanted it to. In the end, the murder of Judith Brown was solved, not by a confession or showing motive, but by passionate police work in presenting one of the most fascinating and complicated circumstantial cases to be placed before a NSW Supreme Court.

In this tell–all book, discover how the justice system works and why, at times, the innocent are convicted and the guilty set free. Bill Hosking looks back at his career as a criminal barrister in a candid account of his time at the bar. He tells the true story behind some of his most famous cases, including the Hilton bombings, 'Toecutter' Jimmy Driscoll's attempt to avoid prison time, and the Anita Cobby trial. At Bill's side we also meet some larger–than–life characters, such as Carl Synnerdhal, a professional bank robber who successfully convinced everyone he was blind and hoodwinked the system, as well as adversaries such as disgraced former detective Roger Rogerson. Bill Hosking's clients have included, '...the notorious, the oppressed, the young and the old...the wise and the foolish...'. In the company of his colleagues, judges, prosecutors and defence lawyers, he reveals how the law courts give us an insight into human frailty and the dark side of human nature. Justice in any courtroom can be elusive. Yet, as Bill Hosking explains: '...a calm, composed, careful and competent judicial process is to what we aspire...when it is achieved, justice is never denied.'

Bound to Die is the true crime story of Florida serial killer Bobby Joe Long, who was convicted of the heinous killings of nine women in 1984 in the Tampa Bay area. The first body of 19-year-old disco dancer Lana Long was found in a field on Mother's Day with her legs grotesquely ripped apart. Six months later, the bloody rampage ended when the ninth victim was discovered. All had been tortured with ropes and savagely beaten and raped. The killer's confession of his crimes is haunting. The vividly rendered results of his trials and appeals are equally shocking. First published by Kensington, NY in 1995, Bound to Die was internationally recognized. It received seven mass media printings and was issued in hardback as a Doubleday Mystery Guild Book Club selection. This second edition features a new foreword on a capital case which is still considered a definitive example of excellent police detection before DNA. Multiple television presentations have been made based on this book, some including the author's participation. Shortly after first publication, a documentary based on the case was shown on Medical Detective that aired sporadically for years. In 2012, this story became the pilot for the new show Killer Profile on the Biography Channel. The Second Edition of BOUND TO DIE (Kensington, NY 1993) was released on Nov. 24th in ebook form, and the author Anna Flowes, was at the Authors Book Fair in Eau Galle on that day to talk about it. It is available on Sony, Gardners, Baker & Taylor, Google Play, iTunes, Kobo, Nook, Amazon, OmniLit, e-Sentral and the Book Hub website. The book contains a new 5,000 word updated Foreword about the case of serial killer Bobby Joe Long, and it will be available later in trade and mass media print. The original Kensington book received seven mass media printings, and was a Mystery Guild Book Club selection in hardback. Last year the author participated in two television documentaries on the case, which are being aired on A&E, Discovery and Biography channels. The first was the pilot show of "Killer Profile," the second was a production called "Surviving Evil." A third documentary, "Common Thread," which was a segment on Medical Detective after the initial release of BOUND TO DIE, is also being reshown. Sept. 21, 2012 author participated in film interview in Tampa for an A&E Documentary to be aired early next year. June 1, 2012, Tampa, FL - Author participated in a two-hour on-camera interview for a new A&E television show, Killer Profile, which will feature the case of serial killer Bobby Joe Long, the subject of Flowers' best selling true crime book BOUND TO DIE. There is renewed interest in this case and the Killer Profile pilot show will air in the Fall of 2012. Author Flowers is also working on an Afterword for a new edition of the book. The case of Tampa Bay serial killer, Bobby Joe Long, is a classic in task force team work and forensic detection. A Doubleday Mystery Guild Book Club selection, it is a Medical Detective segment. "Common Thread," seen on TLC and Discovery TV channels. This second edition is published by Blue Star Books of Santa Cruz, California for 2014. Just in time, don't miss the UK broadcast during October/November of the recent interview of Anna Flowers to cover the ongoing case, the appeal process, and the eventual execution of Bobby Joe Long. THE MURDER OF ANNA MAE AQUASHOn February 24, 1976, Roger Amiotte, a rancher, was installing a fence when he saw a body at the bottom of a thirty-foot embankment. The land was at the northeast corner of the reservation, a few miles from Wanblee, South Dakota. The body had been revealed after the snow had melted away. The body was badly composed, curled in the fetal position, and still covered by a pair of jeans and a maroon ski jacket. The coroner, W. O Brown, conducted the autopsy. He documented that death had occurred ten days prior, and that she had died from exposure. The body was determined to be a Jane Doe. To identify the body, the hands were cut off and sent to the FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. for fingerprinting. A few days later, the body was buried in an unmarked grave in South Dakota as a Jane Doe.A few hours after the burial, the FBI lab confirmed that the fingerprints from the dismembered hands belonged to Anna Mae Pictou Aquash....But who would want to murder the fiery Native American activist?THE DISAPPEARANCE OF DIANE SUZUKIA hard day teaching dance. Finish work and head to the beach. It's an appealing prospect especially when that beach is the North Shore of Oahu, on the beautiful Hawaiian Islands. Whether it is standing by the ancient temple looking out to sea, having a coffee on any of the waterfront cafes or swimming in the warm blue ocean, the beach is one of those paradise-like places about which we all dream. It might be a touch different today to what it was like back in the mid-1980s, but the ambience is little changed. On July 6th 1985, a talented and enthusiastic student planned to go to that beauty spot along with friends when she finished teaching her dance class at the Rosalie Woodson Dance Academy, located in the 'Aiea district of Honolulu. But Diane Yayoe Suzuki never made it. Her class finished at 3.00pm, but by the time her friend arrived fifteen minutes later, the student was missing. She has never been seen since.

Australian Crime Fiction written by Stephen Knight and has been published by McFarland this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-06-14 with Literary Criticism categories.

Australian crime fiction has grown from the country's origins as an 18th-century English prison colony. Early stories focused on escaped convicts becoming heroic bush rangers, or how the system mistreated those who were wrongfully convicted. Later came thrillers about wealthy free settlers and lawless gold-seekers, and urban crime fiction, including Fergus Hume's 1887 international best-seller The Mystery of a Hansom Cab, set in Melbourne. The 1980s saw a surge of private-eye thrillers, popular in a society skeptical of police. Twenty-first century authors have focused on policemen--and increasingly policewomen--and finally indigenous crime narratives. The author explores in detail this rich but little known national subgenre.

In the early 1920s, a 5' 4" woman in her 40s was incarcerated in Long Bay Gaol, New South Wales, Australia. A small woman, weighing around 126lb, and with the little finger of her right finger missing, Eugenia Falleni had just been found guilty of murder and sentenced to death.[1] As shocking as the murder was, it was nothing compared to the revelation that Eugenia Falleni had been living for the past 40 years as a man. In the 1920s, this diminutive woman had committed a crime considered far worse than that of taking someone's life - she had committed a crime against nature, the crime of believing she was a man trapped inside a woman's body.
