Albuquerque's old Sunshine Theater harbors a deep, dark secret from its vaudeville/silent movie days. But Millie and Andy Milliken don't have a clue when they lease the theater so that Andy's garage band will have a place to play for under-21 audiences. The theater is a mess, but the Millikens manage to clean it up and get it opened. Then they are plagued by a series of near catastrophes: a fire in the balcony is narrowly averted...a huge disc shaped lighting fixture falls from the vaulted ceiling during a grunge show. Fortunately, it lands in the unoccupied balcony rather than the mosh pit so no one is hurt. Millie and Andy are beginning to think someone does not want them to succeed. But Millie suspects someone or something is helping to keep the situation from getting out of hand. She believes the theater may be haunted and that, strange as it may seem, a ghost is acting as a kind of guardian angel. She nicknames the ghost BG for "benevolent ghost," unaware that those initials also stand for Bettina Gaylord, a silent movie star who mysteriously disappeared from the theater in 1928 and was never found. Although Bettina's ghost is unable to prevent a second murder, that of a particularly obnoxious road manager during a big grunge rock show, she does help Millie determine who the killer is. She also leads Millie to her hidden bones. But not before an unarmed Millie faces the killer on the theater's dangerously rickety old wooden fly grid, suspended more than sixty feet above the stage floor.

Love And Death In The Sunshine State written by Cutter Wood and has been published by Hachette UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-04-17 with True Crime categories.

"Gripping . . . Cutter Wood subverts all our expectations for the true crime genre.” —Leslie Jamison, author of The Recovering When a stolen car is recovered on the Gulf Coast of Florida, it sets off a search for a missing woman, local motel owner Sabine Musil-Buehler. Three men are named persons of interest—her husband, her boyfriend, and the man who stole the car. Then the motel is set on fire; her boyfriend flees the county; and detectives begin digging on the beach of Anna Maria Island. Author Cutter Wood was a guest at Musil-Buehler’s motel as the search for her gained momentum. Driven by his own need to understand how a relationship could spin to pieces in such a fatal fashion, he began to talk with many of the people living on Anna Maria, and then with the detectives, and finally with the man presumed to be the murderer. But there was only so much that interviews and transcripts could reveal. In trying to understand how we treat those we love, this book, like Truman Capote’s classic In Cold Blood, tells a story that exists outside documentary evidence. Wood carries the investigation of Sabine’s murder beyond the facts of the case and into his own life, crafting a tale about the dark conflicts at the heart of every relationship.

"Like Truman Capote, Allison Burnett knows how to pull up a chair and whisper a juicy story into his lucky reader's ear. Death By Sunshine is a quickly-paced tale inhabited by fascinating and funny creatures." - Nell Scovell, Vanity Fair "In this age when the genuine comic novel seems to be an extinct species, Allison Burnett gives us reason to rejoice. Death By Sunshine is a return trip to the world of B.K. Troop, one of the most appealing characters ever put on a page." - Charles Busch, author of The Tale of the Allergist's Wife and Die, Mommie, Die! "Death by Sunshine is classic Burnett: hilarious, gut-wrenching, and entirely entertaining. He takes us on a journey across the country into the darkest recesses of the human psyche - with a few detours into the excesses of the human flesh along the way. A terrific read!" - Claire LaZebnik, author of Epic Fail and Families and Other Non-Returnable Gifts "B.K. Troop is that rarest find: an unexpected and entirely engaging new character." - Seduced by a Literary Original by Robin Russin, Los Angeles Times B.K. Troop is an aging, erudite, chemically imbalanced, gay, alcoholic novelist living in Manhattan. His life is turned upside down when he is invited to Los Angeles to adapt one of his novels into a screenplay. Soon after his arrival, B.K. is thrust into the heart of a mystery that only he can solve. With the help of his trusty Mexican chauffeur, B.K. penetrates the lower depths of Hollywood with hilarious and surprisingly poignant results.

People Die In Sunshine written by Gloria Nagy and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-10-06 with Fiction categories.

New York Times Best Selling Author, Gloria Nagy sliced through the social fabric of the North Shore of Long Island in A HOUSE IN THE HAMPTONS and now she aims her razor sharp talents on Miami--the new hot spot for glamour, greed and gore. The Sunshine State will need a far higher level of SPF! People Die in Sunshine is the carnival ride through the externally glamorous, but internally twisted lives of those two people, Frederick and Coco Rothenstein and their world; one most of us only know about from reading true crime stories and news accounts of the lives of the super-rich and entitled dwellers in the bastions of wealth and privilege where families such as the Rothensteins reign. The first four words of Gloria Nagy's scorching, ironic tale of greed, glamour, envy, avarice and the Janus headed coin of love and hate are: "Money. Money. Money. Money." What Ms. Nagy accomplishes in a work of humor, heartbreak, murder, and redemption reinforces those four words. A theme reflecting the world we have created that rises and falls with the same quite simple motivation that has driven every facet of human life since man stood upright. It is not the world we want to see, but it is the real world and where better to set a novel that is as much a social chronicle of our times as it is a gripping tale of the maze like search for a killer, than Miami. The Miami of the twenty-first century, a glittering city in the sun which has become a symbol of the new American Dream--retirement ease, new beginnings or a haven for sketchy characters with dubious histories and too much money to spend. In a large cast of characters diverse in ethnicity, wealth, morality and status, Ms. Nagy shines her own unique sunlight on a cross section of this city of multi-cultural strivers and survivors, finding humanity in even the most flawed inhabitants of her singular human circus. This is a robust and tightly constructed romp through her slice of the sludge beneath the shimmering sand and as in all of her work, she sees and she sears.
