While the Midwest may be known for salt-of-the-earth folks, it's also home to murder and mayhem. In Murderous Acts: 100 Years of Crime in the Midwest, Keven McQueen explores a century of true crimes committed in 10 Midwestern states, from the 1840s to the 1940s. With a touch of gallows humor, McQueen relies on original research to recount infamous transgressions—including Michigan's Robert Irving Latimer case, the serial murders of Nebraskan Jake Bird, and the bloody deeds of Kansas's Bender family—as well as gruesome tales that are less well known, such as the Wisconsin man with a penchant for swinging an axe at the necks of men he didn't care for, the Hoosier who killed his sweetheart in the midst of a Halloween ball, and the French nobleman who wreaked havoc in a St. Louis hotel. Murderous Acts will intrigue and delight fans of true crime and will send a shiver down the spine of any reader fascinated by the dark history of America's Heartland.

Canada's award-winning "queen of crime fiction" is back with Acts of Murder, the ninth title in the acclaimed Karl Alberg series. Mrs. O'Hara had heard nothing, has thought her husband Tom was out. She looked up quickly, stumbling in her shock, and her hand flew from the railing as she lost her balance. Tom was standing directly beneath the light...behind him, slightly shorter than he, huddled against his back like a shadow, was a white specter with long hair... The sleepy Sunshine Coast town of Sechelt, B.C., is once again beset by crime and only Karl Alberg can solve the mystery. Three people have been found murdered, by someone known as "the avenging Angel," a killer who has assumed the responsibility of ridding the village of those who sin, those who betray. This latest case also brings with it some life-changing surprises for Alberg and his love, Cassandra Mitchell. But theirs are only two of the lives that will be irreparably changed by the murderous activities of an angel straight from hell. With the help of his striking new sergeant, Edwina Henderson, Alberg must race against time to prevent the killer from claiming another victim.

Case seen on 20/20 "Everybody Loved John. . ." Mary Jean Pearle and John Battaglia's marriage seemed picture perfect from the outside. With their two young daughters, Faith and Liberty, they made their home in a wealthy Dallas suburb. John was handsome, charming, and successful--but behind his mask of normality lay a vicious, violent abuser who'd brutally beaten his first wife--and who made Mary Jean the new target of his irrational rages. After nine hellish years, she divorced Battaglia. "I Never Thought He'd Hurt The Children. . ." On Christmas Day, 1999, during a court-ordered family visit, he attacked her in front of their daughters. For the next two years, he threatened, harassed and stalked her. Mary Jean feared for her life, but not for the lives of the children, with whom Battaglia was never anything less than caring, loving, and gentle. "No, Daddy, Don't!" But in spring, 2001, when Faith and Liberty were visiting their father, Mary Jean received a message to call her daughters. Helpless, horrified, she heard her older daughter's pleading cries. Then came the sound of gunshots--followed by silence. What evil impulses had driven a seemingly devoted father the ultimate act of violence and betrayal. . .and how would justice be served? Includes Sixteen Pages Of Shocking Photos

Murderous Consent written by Marc Crépon and has been published by Fordham Univ Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-05-07 with Philosophy categories.

Winner, 2002 French Translation Prize for Nonfiction Murderous Consent details our implication in violence we do not directly inflict but in which we are structurally complicit: famines, civil wars, political repression in far-away places, and war, as it’s classically understood. Marc Crépon insists on a bond between ethics and politics and attributes violence to our treatment of the two as separate spheres. We repeatedly resist the call to responsibility, as expressed by the appeal—by peoples across the world—for the care and attention that their vulnerability enjoins. But Crépon argues that this resistance is not ineluctable, and the book searches for ways that enable us to mitigate it, through rebellion, kindness, irony, critique, and shame. In the process, he engages with a range of writers, from Camus, Sartre, and Freud, to Stefan Zweig and Karl Kraus, to Kenzaburo Oe, Emmanuel Levinas and Judith Butler. The resulting exchange between philosophy and literature enables Crépon to delineate the contours of a possible/impossible ethicosmopolitics—an ethicosmopolitics to come. Pushing against the limits of liberal rationalism, Crépon calls for a more radical understanding of interpersonal responsibility. Not just a work of philosophy but an engagement with life as it’s lived, Murderous Consent works to redefine our global obligations, articulating anew what humanitarianism demands and what an ethically grounded political resistance might mean.

To what lengths will someone go in order to survive? Does the survival instinct override their conscience and allow them to commit not only murder but also the taboo act of cannibalism? What happens when a person crosses the line from dark fantasy to real life acts of brutal rape, murder, and cannibalism? Are these people driven by a desire so insatiable they are incapable of controlling it? Murderous Minds Volume Three: Stories of Real Life Murderers that Escaped the Headlines is the latest offering in a series which takes you inside the lives of killers who committed cold-blooded murder, for a glimpse at events which drove them to kill. Written within a historical context, each chapter is an unbelievable venture inside the dark and twisted world of cannibal killers whose names and crimes might not be familiar to you. Among the killers in this book, you will read about: Joachim Kroll, the diminutive man who collected dolls and loved little girls, but who especially loved eating the little girls he lured with sweets, not unlike the witch from Hansel and Gretel. Alfred Packer, a man who unapologetically cannibalized men he was hired to lead through the wilderness, but who he instead led to their doom. Tsutomu Miyazaki, deformed from birth, his mind became as twisted as his hands, until he could no longer resist the urge to attack and cannibalize young girls. By weaving a tale in which Dark Fantasies Turned Reality, this book invites you to see life from a perspective few ever witness-- that of the killer. Along with a historical look at cannibalism through the ages, these stories beg the reader to answer the question; was the murderer committing cannibalism because he was incapable of resisting the urge to kill and consume or is the explanation simply pure evil? Get your copy today and decide what you feel actually took place in these-- Murderous Minds!
