WINNER OF 'BEST NON FICTION' IN THE GOODREADS CHOICE AWARDS 2013 It's estimated that one in almost a hundred people are diagnosed as being on the autistic spectrum but there is far more hope for them today than ever before thanks to groundbreaking new research. In this fascinating and highly readable book, Temple Grandin offers her own experience as an autistic person alongside remarkable new discoveries about the autistic brain, as well as genetic research. She also highlights long-ignored sensory problems as well as the need to treat autism symptom by symptom, rather than with an umbrella diagnosis. Most exciting of all, she argues that raising and educating children on the autistic spectrum needs to be less about focusing on their weaknesses, and more about fostering their unique contributions.

After growing up in a life with autism, I've decided to write a whole book about what's inside my mind. For example, I've always liked using my imagination a lot, such as flying an airplane through a sky full of hot-air balloons, if cartoon characters were real, and battling against villains who are inspired by two of my favorite villains, who are named Professor Quirrell (in Harry Potter) and Judge Doom (in Roger Rabbit). Also, I've been strangely attached to certain objects, like anything that's the color red or rounded, treasure chests, boxes, and a very special DVD I first burned since 7th grade. But there's a whole lot more in my mind than just this, so be sure to read this book to find out more about me.In addition, I've even written an entire chapter about this girl I used to be in love with for five years. Back since 2012, I've always had this goal where I wanted to do something very sweet to get her to like me back and things didn't exactly work out like I thought once I've finally told her the truth. If you want to know more about my entire story, I recommend reading my other book that I self-published in March 2018, I Once Loved A Girl: Based On A True Story Using Fictional Characters. But you can still find this chapter in this book, I intended to leave it as it is so that way you, as my readers, can know what I've originally written, even though it's not exactly much.

Authoring Autism written by Melanie Yergeau and has been published by Duke University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-12-22 with Social Science categories.

In Authoring Autism Melanie Yergeau defines neurodivergence as an identity—neuroqueerness—rather than an impairment. Using a queer theory framework, Yergeau notes the stereotypes that deny autistic people their humanity and the chance to define themselves while also challenging cognitive studies scholarship and its reification of the neurological passivity of autistics. She also critiques early intensive behavioral interventions—which have much in common with gay conversion therapy—and questions the ableist privileging of intentionality and diplomacy in rhetorical traditions. Using storying as her method, she presents an alternative view of autistic rhetoricity by foregrounding the cunning rhetorical abilities of autistics and by framing autism as a narrative condition wherein autistics are the best-equipped people to define their experience. Contending that autism represents a queer way of being that simultaneously embraces and rejects the rhetorical, Yergeau shows how autistic people queer the lines of rhetoric, humanity, and agency. In so doing, she demonstrates how an autistic rhetoric requires the reconceptualization of rhetoric’s very essence.
