Wali Pitu And Muslim Pilgrimage In Bali Indonesia written by Syaifudin Zuhri and has been published by Leiden University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-03 with Religion categories.

This ethnographic book deals with the emergence of the Wali Pitu (seven saints) tradition and Muslim pilgrimage in Bali, Indonesia. It touches upon the issues of translocal connectivity between Java and Bali, Islam-Hindu relationship, relations between Muslim groups, and questions of authority and authenticity of saint worship tradition. It offers a new perspective on Bali, seeing the island as a site of cultural motion straddling in between Islam and Hinduism with complexities of local figurations, and belongings of 'Muslim Balinese'. The study also urges the intricate relationship between religion and tourism, between devotion and economy, and shows that the Wali Pitu tradition has facilitated the transgression of spatial and cultural boundaries.

This is the astonishing and inspiring story of millions of Muslims returning to their ancestral faith of Hinduism. A country with the largest Muslims population of the world, Indonesia where majority of the Indonesian Hindus are located in Bali Island, Java, Sumatra, Lombok, Kalimantan and Sulawesi. Hinduism in Indonesia is conspicuously different from India as they never apply the Indian caste system rigidly. The Balinese caste system is a system social organization similar to and yet different from the Indian caste system. In recent years, the resurgence of Hinduism in Indonesia is occurring in all parts of the country. Inspirations from Hindu Majapahit Empire, influence of Ramayana, Mahabharat, and Sanskrit are few reasons for resurgence among Muslims. The author has presented this book in a meticulous way for all the readers.

This book discusses a fascinating historical episode, the establishing of Balinese Hindu rule over the predominantly Muslim population of Lombok, concentrating on the years 1700-1748. Materials covering this period are re-examined and further interesting information provided as to what happened at the time, seen in a regional context, including ethnic and religious relationships, besides the cultural basis for legitimacy of leadership. The broader aspect of how a Hindu minority was able to rule a Muslim majority is of special interest, also in respect to its outcome. Deteriorating ethnic relationships in one part of the island led to a rebellion in 1891, thus paving the way for Dutch colonial conquest in 1894: the disruption caused by the arrival of the Dutch East Indian Company in an area in the late 1600s having played a role in setting the stage for the events here described. Another example of Hindu rulers governing a mainly Muslim population can be found in Kashmir.

Jemaah Islamiyah written by Greg Barton and has been published by NUS Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005 with Bali Bombings, Kuta, Bali, Indonesia, 2002 categories.

Indonesian authorities responded quickly to the Bali bombing, tracking down leading Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) figures and bringing them to trial. Despite a subsequent attack in Jakarta, the attention of many people has shifted to the Middle East and potential threats to Europe. Yet JI has the potential to mount new terrorist attacks and destablise the world's largest Muslim country and the Southeast Asian region. In this timely book Greg Barton traces the religious, cultural and political development of JI, and argues that it has important features in common with other organisations linked to al-Qaeda. Based on extensive research in Indonesia, the book assesses the level of support for JI and examines the Indonesian government's success in dealing with the threat it poses. Barton argues that, while the Indonesian authorities reacted well to the events in Bali, their subsequent response has not been as effective as is commonly assumed. He analyses the 2004 election results and looks at the challenges facing President Bambang Susilo Yudhoyono.

This book explores two of the most crucial areas of the war on terror: 1) why some Muslims turn to violent jihad, and 2) that process in the world's most populous Muslim nation, Indonesia. The recent history of terrorism in Indonesia has brought this country into the world spotlight: the Bali night club bombing by Islamists in 2002 was one of the worst terrorist attacks in history. The recent violence following the executions of three of the Bali bombers, together with a number of thwarted bomb plots, demonstrate the continuing danger posed by radicalized violent Islamists in the country. Written by one of Southeast Asias leading counter-terrorism experts, Radical Pathways offers innovative new perspectives on the sources of violent Muslim radicalization and what should be done to counter it.
