Around Africa On My Bicycle written by Riaan Manser and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009 with Africa categories.
In a world first, almost incredibly, Riaan Manser rode a bicycle right around the continent of Africa. It took him two years, two months and fifteen days. He rode 36,500 kilometres through 34 different countries. In this book he tells the story of this epic journey. It is a story of blood, sweat, toil and tears. It is a story of triumph and occasional disaster. Of nights out under the stars, of searing heat and rain, of endless miles of Africa and of pressing on and never surrendering whatever the odds. Mostly however it is the story of one man's courage and determination to escape the mundane and see the continent he loves and feels so much a part of. It is the story of the human warmth he encounters, and occasionally human wrath and hostility as he crosses troubled countries and borders.

“As fearless as a futuristic Game of Thrones.”— MARGARET STOHL, New York Times bestselling co-author of the Beautiful Creatures trilogy From Melissa de la Cruz and Michael Johnston, the New York Times bestselling authors of the Blue Bloods and Witches of East End series. Welcome to New Vegas, a city once covered in bling, now blanketed in ice. Like much of the destroyed planet, the place knows only one temperature—freezing. But some things never change. The diamond in the ice desert is still a 24-hour hedonistic playground and nothing keeps the crowds away from the casino floors, never mind the rumors about sinister sorcery in its shadows. At the heart of this city is Natasha Kestal, a young blackjack dealer looking for a way out. Like many, she's heard of a mythical land simply called “the Blue.” They say it’s a paradise, where the sun still shines and the waters are turquoise. More importantly, it’s a place where Nat won’t be persecuted, even if her darkest secret comes to light. But passage to the Blue is treacherous, if not impossible, and her only shot is to bet on a ragtag crew of mercenaries led by a cocky runner named Ryan Wesson there. Danger and deceit await on every corner, even as Nat and Wes find themselves inexorably drawn to each other. But can true love survive the lies? Fiery hearts collide in this fantastic tale of the evil men do and the awesome power within us all. This is a remarkable first book in a spellbinding new series about the dawn of a new kind of magic.

Lost in the dusty Inca ruins of Peru at age 6, tattooed by head-hunters in the jungles of Borneo at age 12, luxuriated lasciviously and flirted with pro-Castro revolutionaries in a corrupt pre-Castro Havana, wrestled a Bengal tiger, lived beneath the iron curtain's shadow in occupied Trieste, witnessed the astounding mid-hurricane Atlantic rescue of hundreds of passengers and sailors from a burning ship. An atypical upbringing meant atypical experiences. Stephen Baldwin's ordinary world involved living with very rich and very famous relatives and friends, including Adlai Stevenson, Richard Nixon, and the Washington Post's Phil and Kaye Graham. He explored virtually unknown temples in Angkor and Rangoon, routinely crisscrossed oceans in luxury liners that fully lived up to their promise, ran with the bulls in Pamplona when he was 20, was instrumental in saving thousands clinging to life after a cataclysmic tidal wave and cyclone in Bangladesh, then in setting up an underground railway for Bengali leaders escaping from Pakistani genocide, finally escaping to carry that story to the outside world. It is true that there are few undiscovered wildernesses today. Transportation and communication advances have blazingly brought everything close to us, but in that process nearly everything has been rendered commonplace. Yet much of the world was neither close nor common a mere 60 years ago, and Stephen had a front row seat to the spectacle-sometimes getting too close to the fire. Shadows Over Sundials chronicles the astonishing adventures of a Foreign Service brat who later worked in poor countries for The Ford Foundation, Population Council, and United Nations, spearheading international development, then went on to tackle seemingly intractable problems in inner-city education, first as a New York City Teaching Fellow in a failing South Bronx elementary school, finally as Board Chair of a charter school he helped establish there to do it better. Mr. Baldwin is married to Barbara Radloff, has five children, and lives in New York City and Redding, Connecticut.

The politics of Broadway musicals matter a great deal more to U.S. American culture than they appear to mean, and they are especially important to mainstream politics surrounding sex, gender, and sexuality. Love Is Love Is Love looks to the Broadway musicals of the past decade for help understanding the current state of LGBTQ politics in the United States. Through analyses of Promises, Promises, Newsies, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, The Color Purple, and Frozen, this book attempts to move past the question of representational politics and asks us instead to think in more complex ways about LGBTQ identity, what LGBTQ politics are, and the politics of Broadway musicals themselves. Producing new, complex readings of all five of these musicals, author Aaron C. Thomas places each of them within the context of the LGBTQ politics of their day. Some of the issues the book treats are controversies of casting, the closetedness and openness of musical theatre, LGBTQ identities, adaptation from movies into musicals, and the special power of the musical form by examining how these shows differ from the books and movies on which they’re based. Love Is Love Is Love places contemporary LGBTQ political tensions and conversations in a new light, making this an essential companion for students and scholars of contemporary theatre, musical theatre, cultural studies, Queer studies, and gender studies.
