Thomas Carl was a cat waiting in an animal shelter for a new friend. I had moved to a new city and was lonely and afraid. I was looking for a new friend as well. This charming and entertaining tail tells how Thomas Carl and I became best friends, and how Thomas Carl helped me say goodbye to that loneliness and fear. It proves that friendship and acceptance can come from anywhere… …even a cat! This story will inspire young readers to think more about the importance of friendship and giving everyone a chance. It also reminds us that, no matter our size, we can all have a positive impact on others.

Every summer the population of college-age kids explodes in Southern California. Some come for opportunities on movie lots and recording studios. Others migrate for summer jobs at Disneyland or Knott's Berry Farm. A few are simply on vacation. Most arrive in the chaotic land of tinsel, fruits, and nuts to hit the beaches and party. Fraternity brothers Robert, Kevin, and Benjamin return to Disneyland for a second summer. Working at Carnation Plaza Gardens, friendships are made with Tammy, a grunion hunter and powder skier from Utah, Dave, a volleyball player and mountain climber from Kansas, and Jed Bob, a rockabilly guitarist and "slap-back" bass player from Texas. Extracurricular activities include beer drinking at the French Quarter in Anaheim, bodysurfing at "The Wedge" in Newport Beach, and side trips to Tijuana, Catalina, and Hollywood. Most of the kids pack light, but a few make room for heavy baggage, including their own demons of obsession, deception, and manipulation. Aston, a former First Lady Astronaut Trainee in Albuquerque, is one of the young people with lots of baggage, including a working "hit list" of six names. She along with her best friend Leslie, an Eastern Airlines stewardess and American River whitewater guide, run into Robert, Kevin, and Benjamin at lunch in Big Sur. They meet again at Disneyland, where the girls are taking a break from surfing the pilings at the pier in Huntington Beach. During their time together, there is no mention of Aston's list or the name at the top of the list----President of the United States John F. Kennedy.

Psychoanalysis And Digital Culture written by Jacob Johanssen and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-10-31 with Computers categories.

Psychoanalysis and Digital Culture offers a comprehensive account of our contemporary media environment—digital culture and audiences in particular—by drawing on psychoanalysis and media studies frameworks. It provides an introduction to the psychoanalytic affect theories of Sigmund Freud and Didier Anzieu and applies them theoretically and methodologically in a number of case studies. Johanssen argues that digital media fundamentally shape our subjectivities on affective and unconscious levels, and he critically analyses phenomena such as television viewing, Twitter use, affective labour on social media, and data-mining. How does watching television involve the body? Why are we so drawn to reality television? Why do we share certain things on social media and not others? How are bodies represented on social media? How do big data and data mining influence our identities? Can algorithms help us make better decisions? These questions amongst others are addressed in the chapters of this wide-ranging book. Johanssen shows in a number of case studies how a psychoanalytic angle can bring new insights to audience studies and digital media research more generally. From audience research with viewers of the reality television show Embarrassing Bodies and how they unconsciously used it to work through feelings about their own bodies, to a critical engagement with Hardt and Negri's notion of affective labour and how individuals with bodily differences used social media for their own affective-digital labour, the book suggests that an understanding of affect based on Freud and Anzieu is helpful when thinking about media use. The monograph also discusses the perverse implications of algorithms, big data and data mining for subjectivities. In drawing on empirical data and examples throughout, Johanssen presents a compelling analysis of our contemporary media environment.

He Said written by John Amerson and has been published by Page Publishing Inc this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-08-22 with Fiction categories.

He said: Long before Earth and the stars that you see in the night sky were created, there were thousands upon thousands of planets throughout the universe supporting life. The inhabitants of the planets live in peace. The gods were pleased. Yes, I said "the gods," not one, not just your god but all the gods. Even back then no one knew how many there were, how they came to be, or where they came from. Some of the inhabited planets were only a few million miles apart. As the inhabitants of the planets began to venture out into space they encountered other races and cultures. Wars broke out. And soon the whole universe was filled with warring planets determined to conquer one another. The gods became angry. Mankind had become a disappointment. The gods decided to put an end to all the violence. Your scientists got the big bang theory practically right. It wasn't the creation of the universe. It was the destruction of the universe. Earth and what you see in the night sky is the aftermath, the rubble, you might say, of a universe that had been home to thousands upon thousands of inhabited planets.

Foundations Of Social Archaeology written by Vere Gordon Childe and has been published by Rowman Altamira this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004 with Social Science categories.

V. Gordon Childe is probably the most widely read early archaeologist of the 20th century and one of the world's most renowned prehistorians. A thorough understanding of the evolution of Childe's theoretical perspective is crucial to an understanding of the foundations of social archaeology. For the first time, a diverse collection of Childe's writings have been brought together in one volume. These fourteen essays, from his earliest seminal work in 1935 to his reflective essay 'Retrospect' written in 1958 shortly before his death, document the progression of this dynamic thinker. Essays such as 'Archaeology and Anthropology' show the evolution of Childe's theories from a conception of the past as a trait-list conceptualization of culture to an understanding of the profound importance of social relations in transforming human history. His understanding of history evolved from a static notion into a dynamic conception that openly embraced social interaction and all that it entailed, a transformation that marked the earliest strains of social archaeology. The introduction by prominent anthropologists Thomas Patterson and Charles Orser places Childe's work in a larger context and explores Childe's ongoing value to modern readers. This volume will be of interest to archaeologists, anthropologists, and historians of social archaeology.

There are two kinds of people in this world: the colonists that immigrated to Earth first and those that followed them. Something happened to those first immigrants, no one knows what, but they were changed. The biological changes were subtle except their lifespan was dramatically shortened to something like seventy or eighty years and they procreated at a ridiculously high rate. The psychological changes were more dramatic. They warred with each other. They fought each other for dominance. They had this strange compulsion to hoard things. The most notable change, though, was that they had forgotten nearly all of the philosophical and scientific knowledge accumulated over millennia. To say their technology was crude would be an understatement. They lived like animals. It made things difficult for those that came later. At first they made no effort to hide the differences. They used technology openly. But the colonists reacted strangely. They either thought those later immigrants were gods and started worshipping them or they thought they were demons and tried to kill them. Eventually, the later immigrants 'went underground' and formed a human subculture that has stood for tens of thousands of years. We, those first immigrants, know them simply as 'the elite'. The elite have spent millennia reeducating us and reintroducing us to technology. Some of the elite think they have gone as far as they should. To reveal the final secrets would be more than we could handle. Others believe that if the final secrets are not revealed, the earth's environment will be destroyed. The battle lines are drawn. Unfortunately, those battle lines cut straight through the lives of Clayton Jeffries and Kate Young - unknowing innocents that simply want to know what happened to his daughters and her brother. The answer will change them...and the world forever.

Set during the height of World War II, The German examines the effect a series of ritualistic murders has on a small, Texas community. A killer preys on the young men of Barnard, Texas, leaving cryptic notes written in German. As the panic builds all eyes turn toward a quiet man with secrets of his own, who is trying to escape a violent past. Ernst Lang fled Germany in 1934. Once a brute, a soldier, a leader of the Nazi party, he has renounced aggression and embraces a peaceful obscurity. But Lang is haunted by an impossible past. He remembers his own execution and the extremes of sex and violence that led to it. He remembers the men he led into battle, the men he seduced, and the men who betrayed him. But are these the memories of a man given a second life, or the delusions of a lunatic?
