My dad wrote poetry for many years. When he was almost at the end of his journey, he sat down and showed me some of what he had written. I couldn't believe that he had such marvelous emotion. He crafted some beautiful poems. Years later, I became inspired by his memory and what I had learned from him. I wish he were here to see this work. I think he would be proud.

How do you see the world from your vantage point? While few of us have put much thought into how we have developed our worldview, all of us have one. Our worldview encompasses how we see the world and how we react to it. Just as we all see the world a little differently from the vantage point of our front porches, we also view the world through different lenses affected by our past experiences, our current circumstances, the information we've been taught, and the way we wish thing to be. But as Christians we need to intentionally develop a worldview that accurately reflects the character of our God and the truth of His Word. This 4-week Bible study is a distinctly feminine approach to developing a biblical worldview. Author Kay Harms takes you to the ancient words of the Bible to frame a sound, biblical view of a modern woman's world.

These are presented in an extended introduction and afterword to the book, exploring the history of his front porch (Larry's house was built by the man who first carved Ontario into farm units) and his journeys from the security of his home and family into the war zones of the world. Front Porch Politics written by Michael Stewart Foley and has been published by Hill and Wang this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-09-17 with History categories.

"Reading this book revives the spirit of civic action today for those who are unjustifiably forlorn about overcoming injustice."—Ralph Nader An on-the-ground history of ordinary Americans who took to the streets when political issues became personal The 1960s are widely seen as the high tide of political activism in the United States. According to this view, Americans retreated to the private realm after the tumult of the civil rights and antiwar movements, and on the rare occasions when they did take action, it was mainly to express their wish to be left alone by government—as recommended by Ronald Reagan and the ascendant New Right. In fact, as Michael Stewart Foley shows in Front Porch Politics, this understanding of post-1960s politics needs drastic revision. On the community level, the 1970s and 1980s witnessed an unprecedented upsurge of innovative and impassioned grass roots political activity. In Southern California and on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, tenants challenged landlords with sit-ins and referenda; in the upper Midwest, farmers vandalized power lines and mobilized tractors to protect their land; and in the deindustrializing cities of the Rust Belt, laid-off workers boldly claimed the right to own their idled factories. Meanwhile, activists fought to defend the traditional family or to expand the rights of women, while entire towns organized to protest the toxic sludge in their basements. Recalling Love Canal, the tax revolt in California, ACT UP, and other crusades famous or forgotten, Foley shows how Americans were propelled by personal experiences and emotions into the public sphere. Disregarding conventional ideas of left and right, they turned to political action when they perceived, from their actual or figurative front porches, an immediate threat to their families, homes, or dreams. Front Porch Politics is a vivid and authoritative people's history of a time when Americans followed their outrage into the streets. Addressing today's readers, it is also a field guide for effective activism in an era when mass movements may seem impractical or even passé. The distinctively visceral, local, and highly personal politics that Americans practiced in the 1970s and 1980s provide a model of citizenship participation worth emulating if we are to renew our democracy.

• Shows how sound, even humming, can change the body’s tissues, rearrange posture, and release long-held emotional trauma and stress • Explains how to listen deeply to the body and discover the rhythms of the areas to be treated as well as how to intuit the sounds required for healing • Offers practices to help you immediately release tension and explains how to use your voice to release emotional conflicts so your body can naturally heal You are made of sound. By listening deeply, you can hear the rhythms and stories of the audible body. With the power of the voice, you can heal the body layer by layer, awakening your cells while releasing long-held tensions, stress, and emotional trauma. In this guide to sound as bodywork, sound healer Vickie Dodd shares her system for addressing trauma locked in the physical body with the healing power of sound. Touching on the function of the nervous system and the parasympathetic breath, she reveals how sound travels the inner pathways of the body, eliciting responses from the body memory of tissues and muscles while bypassing the mind. Sharing examples from sessions with her clients across five decades, she explains how sound can change the body’s tissues, rearrange posture, and release undigested emotional experiences. She teaches how to prepare the body for the work of sounding and releasing and explains the vocabulary of healing sounds, in particular the power of vowels to start the healing process. Presenting experiential exercises, the author explores how to listen deeply and precisely to the body’s stories and discover the rhythms of the areas to be treated as well as how to intuit the sounds required for healing—your unique soundprint. She offers practices to help you immediately experience a release of tension and stress and explains how to use your voice to release emotional conflicts so your body can naturally heal. She explores how to sing love songs to your shadow, transform negative patterns into harmonious ones, and discover the grace and peace that arise as your body’s stories and tissues come to rest. Revealing the vast potential of sound to heal and transform, Vickie Dodd shows how each of us can dialogue with our own body for release, restoration, and vitality.
