My Gaza offers a startling perspective on contemporary Gaza. Photographer Jehad al-Saftawi documents his life there up until his escape, in 2016. His eye is drawn to moments of humanity and tenderness that redefine this place beyond propaganda, beyond prevailing narratives. Through vivid images and captions--a gun to the head, an interrogation, a family in strife--al-Saftawi exposes a situation that cannot withstand further escalation. Urgent and resolute, My Gaza is the first book of its kind, presenting photos of present-day Gaza by a Gazan journalist.

The frontline in the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians, Gaza is constantly reported as a place of violence and terror. Ramzy Baroud's memoir explores the daily lives of the people in that turbulent region: the complex human beings -- revolutionaries, mothers and fathers, lovers, and comedians -- who make Gaza so much more than just a disputed territory. At the heart of Baroud's tale is the story of his father who, driven out of his village to a refugee camp, took up arms to fight the occupation while trying to raise a family.

Ahmy and Binny are neighbors, yet a world of differences separates them. They are caught in the middle of a deep-rooted war in the Middle East. Yet when Ahmy crosses the wall that divides their villages, he and Binny come to realize that they may not be so different after all. But in the midst of suicide bombings and funerals of children, will they be seen as peaceful heroes by their people -- or traitors? Many of us have watched scenes on the nightly news showing fighting among people from a faraway place. We soon understand that this is what seems to be an endless conflict between two groups of people trying to share the same small country. We see youths throwing rocks, soldiers shooting back, and a constant refrain that each side is retaliating for what the other did yesterday or last month or 60 years ago. The place is Israel, and the issue is how people called the Palestinians will share the land of Israel with, of course, the Israelis. But why is that so hard to solve? What are Occupied Territories? The West Bank of what? And what in the world is the Gaza Strip? Why are they fighting, and how will the conflict ever be resolved? My Gaza, though fiction, is based on real events and real dialogue. This fast-paced, action-packed book is for hi/lo readers from Middle School to adults designed to educate and entertain and answer many of the seemingly impossible questions that have plagued politicians for decades. Maybe you can come up with the solution...

Things You May Find Hidden In My Ear written by Mosab Abu Toha and has been published by City Lights Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-04-26 with Poetry categories.

Winner of the American Book Award, the Palestine Book Award and Arrowsmith Press's 2023 Derek Walcott Poetry Prize National Book Critics Circle Award for Poetry Finalist “Written from his native Gaza, Abu Toha’s accomplished debut contrasts scenes of political violence with natural beauty."—The New York Times In this poetry debut Mosab Abu Toha writes about his life under siege in Gaza, first as a child, and then as a young father. A survivor of four brutal military attacks, he bears witness to a grinding cycle of destruction and assault, and yet, his poetry is inspired by a profound humanity. These poems emerge directly from the experience of growing up and living in constant lockdown, and often under direct attack. Like Gaza itself, they are filled with rubble and the ever-present menace of surveillance drones policing a people unwelcome in their own land, and they are also suffused with the smell of tea, roses in bloom, and the view of the sea at sunset. Children are born, families continue traditions, students attend university, and libraries rise from the ruins as Palestinians go on about their lives, creating beauty and finding new ways to survive. Accompanied by an in-depth interview (conducted by Ammiel Alcalay) in which Abu Toha discusses life in Gaza, his family origins, and how he came to poetry. Praise for Things You May Find Hidden in My Ear: “Mosab Abu Toha is an astonishingly gifted young poet from Gaza, almost a seer with his eloquent lyrical vernacular … His poems break my heart and awaken it, at the same time. I feel I have been waiting for his work all my life.”—Naomi Shihab Nye “Though forged in the bleak landscape of Gaza, he conjures a radiance that echoes Miłosz and Kabir. These poems are like flowers that grow out of bomb craters and Mosab Abu Toha is an astonishing talent to celebrate.”—Mary Karr "Mosab Abu Toha's Things You May Find Hidden in My Ear arrives with such refreshing clarity and voice amidst a sea of immobilizing self-consciousness. It is no great feat to say a complicated thing in a complicated way, but here is a poet who says it plain: 'In Gaza, some of us cannot completely die.' Later, 'This is how we survived.' It’s remarkable. This is poetry of the highest order."—Kaveh Akbar

In the Gaza Strip, growing up on land owned by his family for centuries, eleven-year-old Yousef is preoccupied by video games, school pranks, and meeting his father’s impossibly high standards. Everything changes when the Second Intifada erupts and soldiers occupy the family home. Yousef’s father refuses to flee and risk losing the house forever, so the army keeps the family in a state of virtual imprisonment. Yousef struggles to understand how his father can be so committed to peaceful co-existence that he welcomes the occupying Israeli soldiers as ‘guests’, even in the face of unfair and humiliating treatment. Over time, Yousef learns how to endure his new life in captivity – but he can’t anticipate that a bullet is about to transform his future in an instant. Shot by an Israeli soldier at the age of fifteen, and taken to hospital in Tel Aviv, Yousef slowly and painstakingly confronts the paralysis of his lower body. Under the ceaseless care of Israeli medical professionals, he gains a new perspective on the value of co-existence. These transformative experiences set Yousef on a difficult new path that leads him to learn to embody his father’s philosophy, and spread a message of co-existence in a world of deep-set sectarianism. The Words of My Father is a moving coming-of-age story about survival, tolerance and hope.

I heard my mother scream my name as she came to me. She looked deep in my eyes. “I love you my dear son, please always remember this,” she said and squeezed my hands tightly then turned suddenly with her hands raised. She walked slowly over to the twenty or so soldiers protecting the diplomats who wanted to destroy our homes. She was saying something to them as she got closer. When she got within about a foot of them, she turned to look at me once last time. There was pain and heartache in her eyes. Then, she turned back to the soldiers and screamed, “La-Ilaha-Illallah Muhammadur Rasulullah. ALLAHU AKBAR.” Before I could react, there was a huge explosion that knocked me from my feet. The soldiers and Israeli diplomats lay dead or dying in the streets. My ears rang. I couldn't hear the screams and cries of my people or the moans of the dying. I looked up and saw my mother's head laying a few feet from me. It was severed from her body and severely burnt. In her cold dead eyes, I saw peace. It was something I had never seen before in her eyes. I cradled her head in my arms and wept. For I knew I was alone now. Everything had been taken from me by Israel. I hated the Israelis so much. I wept for what was to come because of this.

My Israel Question written by Antony Loewenstein and has been published by Melbourne Univ. Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Arab-Israeli conflict categories.

The undeclared war in the Middle East is the abiding conflict of our era, with little apparent hope of resolution despite years of peace talks. On one side of the conflict, in the face of suicide bombings and international criticism over its military aggression, Israel asserts the right of the Jewish state to exist in Palestine. On the other, the Palestinian people struggle, some peacefully, some violently, for survival. Far beyond Israel's disputed borders, in New York and Washington, London and Paris, Sydney and Melbourne, the conflict is replayed in passionate public debate by Holocaust survivors, Zionist organisations, Arab advocates, the anti-war movement, newspaper columnists, presidents and prime ministers, and politicians and activists of all shades. In MY ISRAEL QUESTION, a young Australian Jew, Antony Loewenstein, asks how much Zionism - the ideology of Jewish nationalism - is to blame for this intractable conflict. He fearlessly investigates the ways in which the Jewish diaspora in Australia and elsewhere have campaigned on Israel's behalf, in the media and in political and business spheres. He also considers the historical rationale for Zionis - including the centuries of virulent European antisemitism from which it grew - and asks how relevant and sustainable twentieth-century Zionism is today. A searching discussion from a significant new voice in one of the most important debates of our times.

Antony's Loewenstein's My Israel Question was a bestseller when first published and generated a storm of controversy, critical praise and robust public debate. Loewenstein's forensic discussion of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict continues here in a fully updated and expanded new edition, examining the prospects of the Middle East peace process in the new geo-political context. The election of Barack Obama brought hope to millions around the world and has seen renewed diplomatic efforts in the Middle East. Yet the Israel-Palestine conflict remains mired in brutality and occupation. The election of a far-right Israeli government, the indiscriminate war on Gaza and the illegal expansion of West Bank colonies suggest a bleak future for both Israelis and Palestinians. However, public debate about the issue, in the USA, United Kingdom, Europe and Australia, is suggesting alternative ways of tackling the crisis. Now, Antony Loewenstein maps the way in which the conflict is ferociously discussed and where the hope lies for resolution to the brutal impasse.
