In these days of terrorists' attacks and conflicting religions, doubt and confusion are widespread throughout Christianity. Many Christians are perplexed about the interpretation of the Bible. Never before has there been a greater need for guidance in biblical interpretation as today. How many Christians today could benefit from having guidelines for interpreting the Bible that originate with Christ Himself? It goes without saying that every Christian could profit from having such a guideline. What is biblical interpretation? It is discovering what the original author meant-but it is more. The wise biblical interpreter can provide a sound perspective on difficult and obscure passages. When the Bible is interpreted properly, its meaning and relevance is made clearer. The author has a Master's Degree in Divinity from Duke University and served in Methodist ministry. He made a special study of Jesus' uses of the Old Testament for forty-five years and the results have been delivered in this book.

In European Paganism Ken Dowden outlines and analyses the diverse aspects of pagan ritual and culture from human sacrifice to pilgrimage lunar festivals and tree worship. It includes: * a 'timelines' chart to aid with chronology * many quotations from ancient and modern sources translated from the original language where necessary, to make them accessible * a comprehensive bibliography and guide to further reading.

This collection of essays analyzes film representations of the Crusades, other medieval East/West encounters, and the modern inheritance of encounters between orientalist fantasy and apocalyptic conspiracy. From studies of the filmic representations of popular figures such as El Cid, Roland, Richard I, and Saladin to examinations of such topics as Templar romance and the role of set design, location and landscape, the essays make significant contributions to our understanding of orientalist medievalism in film. Instructors considering this book for use in a course may request an examination copy here.

Napoleon’s invasion of the Middle East marks the beginning of the modern era in the region. This book traces the developments that led to the making of a new and separate geographical-political entity in the Middle East known as Eretz Israel and the establishment of the State of Israel within its bounds. Thus, its time frame runs from Napoleon’s invasion of Eretz Israel / Palestine in 1799 to the establishment of Israel in 1948–1949. Eretz Israel as the formal name of a separate entity in the modern era first appeared in the early translations into Hebrew of the Balfour Declaration, while in the original document the country was referred to as “Palestine.” During the period of Ottoman rule the territory that would in time be called Eretz Israel / Palestine was not a separate political unit. Among Jews, use of “Eretz Israel” increased only after the beginning of Zionist aliyot. Had the Zionist movement not arisen, it is doubtful whether the development to which this study is devoted would have occurred. The motivating force behind that process is without doubt the Zionist element. That is why Jews are the major protagonists in this book.
