"To Write Like a Woman is a rare example of a feminist tackling science fictuion using postmodern theory, which makes for a much more sophisticated and nuanced appraisal than the usual fare." —Passion "Russ' essays are witty and insightful. An excellent book for any writer or reader." —Feminist Bookstore News "In her new book of essays . . . Russ continues to debunk and demand, edify and entertain. . . . Appreciative of surface aesthetics, she continually delves deeper than most critics, yet in terms so simple and accessible that her essays read like lively, angry, humorous dialogues conducted face-to-face with the author. Russ is the antithesis of the distant critic in her ivory tower." —Paul Di Filippo, The Washington Post Book World " . . . 20 years of the author's feisty reports from the front lines of literature." —The San Francisco Review of Books "This is a book of imaginative and provoking essays, but you should read it for the sheer fun of it." —The Women's Review of Books "Collects more than two decades of criticism by Joanna Russ, one of the most perceptive, forthright and eloquent feminist commentators around." —Feminist Bookstore News " . . . a super book. . . .This is a book that, for once, really will appeal to readers of all kinds." —Utopian Studies "If you enjoy science fiction, this is definitely a book that you'll want to talk about. I found myself sneaking a few pages at times when I really didn't have time to read." —Jan Catano, Atlantis Classic essays on science fiction and feminism by Nebula and Hugo award-winning Joanna Russ. Here she ranges from a consideration of the aesthetic of science fiction to a reading of the lesbian identity of Willa Cather. This touching true story is about nine children abandoned by their mother and then left alone by an abusive father. Anna-May and her sister, Shirley, had to protect and bring up their siblings without help. The book begins when a 16-year-old French girl meets a 32-year-old man and is raped. There was a new baby every year. Mother eventually abandoned her nine children, unable to sustain the abuse. Father placed the children in an abandoned house in a rural area from May to December. They could have perished, but for the Lord looking out for them. A Good Samaritan called the authorities, saving their lives. Anna-May makes an oath to her father to bring up her siblings, not realizing the abuses she would suffer. The many scars from broken bones did not deter her from raising her brothers and sisters. All nine abandoned children have become productive members of society. “There were Nine Tears, but we all survived,” said the author. “I realized from a young girl that my friends’ lives were so different from mine. They had love and caring parents, which were so absent in our home. It took four years to complete this book, as I relived each and every incident throughout the book, making it emotionally impossible to continue. I set it aside until I could build up the courage to continue.”

Fire written by L.C. Tyler and has been published by FelonyandMayhem+ORM this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-03-28 with Fiction categories.

It’s the Autumn of 1666, and the Great Fire is still burning, the ashes of hundreds of houses and shops and St. Paul’s Cathedral choking the air. The people, too, are choking, raging at the French, the Dutch, at the foreigners who—they are certain—lit the torch. Lord Arlington, the Secretary of State, might conceivably be interested in harnessing this anger; it can be so useful, at times, to have the population united in loathing of a common enemy. But this is not one of those times. And inconveniently, a Frenchman—clearly an insane Frenchman—has confessed to setting the fire. He did it with an accomplice, he says. And he subsequently killed the accomplice. It’s all most irritating for Arlington, or it would be if he didn’t have John Grey on call. Go poke around the smoldering ruins, Arlington says. Find me a convenient fall guy. Make this problem go away.
