Hai, an eight year old child growing up in the war-torn country of Vietnam in the 1950s, witnesses a devastating blow to his family when Communist agents kidnap his older brother. His older brother's long-time friend, a secret Communist agent is the villain behind this horrendous crime. Almost all of the Communist abduction victims vanish forever or their beheaded corpses are dumped at the edge of the thick woods in his poor little village. This incident creates a crease in Hai's mind about the Communists' grievous treatment of the innocent Vietnamese people. With the full support of the Communist bloc, the guerrilla war initiated by the Communist North Vietnam escalated to a full-scale conventional engagement and ultimately the South Vietnamese government collapses in 1975. The new totalitarian regime revokes all of the people's basic freedoms and creates havoc for the country's economy by establishing highly inefficient agriculture cooperatives and a moribund command economy policy. The oppression of freedom, collapse of the economy, the confiscation of people's properties and forcing them to the new economic zone pushes people to flee the country by any means imaginable. Recalling painful memories from his own childhood and seeing nothing but a dark future for his children, Hai decides to flee the country. Inflicted with poverty and the strict control of the government's brutal security apparatus, Hai and his friends work tirelessly in this precarious situation to escape Communist Vietnam. Their plan is dangerous, bold and risky but they successfully flee the country in 1981 by boat through the heavily guarded river mouth of Rach Gia province in the South of Vietnam. Immigrating to the USA, the family works very hard to assimilate themselves in this wonderful country and they are now living a comfortable life in North Carolina.

Teaching Hearts And Minds written by Barry M. Kroll and has been published by SIU Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1992 with Education categories.

In this book, Barry M. Kroll tells how college students in the late 1980s responded to his course on the Vietnam War in literature. Kroll designed the course to engage students’ hearts and minds in the processes of connected and critical inquiry. He argues that students should be personally absorbed in a topic—emotionally connected to key issues and texts—if inquiry is to be more than a perfunctory exercise. Kroll raises a number of important critical questions about texts and meaning, particularly concerning the nature of authority and the reader’s role in creating meaning. He focuses on students’ efforts to think reflectively about literary representation, historical truth, and moral justification. Drawing on John Dewey’s concept of reflective inquiry, Kroll asserts that his course did not challenge his students to "acquire" information, but rather to "inquire"—to explore, probe, and query.

While writing his celebrated Frugal Traveler column for the New York Times, Matt Gross began to feel hemmed in by its focus on what he thought of as “traveling on the cheap at all costs.” When his editor offered him the opportunity to do something less structured, the Getting Lost series was born, and Gross began a more immersive form of travel that allowed him to “lose his way all over the globe”—from developing-world megalopolises to venerable European capitals, from American sprawl to Asian archipelagos. And that's what the never-before-published material in The Turk Who Loved Apples is all about: breaking free of the constraints of modern travel and letting the place itself guide you. It's a variety of travel you'll love to experience vicariously through Matt Gross—and maybe even be inspired to try for yourself.

American pseudo history recorded the U.S. had lost the war in Viet Nam. However, “A Vietnamese Fighter Pilot in an American War” vehemently disagrees. Most Western journalists portrayed Ho Chi Minh as a nationalist patriot. As a former Vanguard Youth Troop in Ha Noi, North Viet Nam, who passionately sang “who loves Uncle Ho more than us children” to praise Ho when he seized power in 1945, the author says: “Ho was a villain.” This book is a truthful account of what actually happened in Viet Nam from 1945, Dien Bien Phu in 1953 to its demise in April 1975.

This volume assembles Vietnam War-related stories by twenty Pulitzer Prize laureates - reporters, cartoonists, photographers and book authors - about various phases and aspects of the fightings. There are articles about the origins of the conflict, shocking reports from the combat zones or disclosures of American war crimes; there are book portions re President Nixon's war conduct, anti-war demonstrations in Washington or the death of soldiers; there are cartoons expressing U.S. illusions about alleged war successes or the loss of thousands of casualties; and there are pictures showing Vietnamese civilians facing the war: family members fleeing across a river or children escaping from a war zone after napalm bombings.
