He witnessed dis-enfranchisement, expropriation, and deportation of his compatriots, events that have been largely ignored by historiography. After his US-born mother dies doing forced labour in the USSR, and his father remains in the West, he finds his way with the support of a grandmother, completing high school and University in Temeswar/Timisoara. In the second part of My Journey from the Banat to Canada, author Nick Tullius describes his emigration to Canada, and his adaptation to a new social order, languages and customs. He finds a rewarding engineering career with the research and development subsidiary of a large telecommunications company, while growing with his family of four. He becomes involved in the introduction of semiconductor devices and software into telecommunication, and the development of Canadian, American and international standards in his field. He writes technical papers, and presents them at international conferences. After his retirement in 2000, Nick Tullius concentrates on family research and making the history and culture of their ancestors accessible to English-speaking descendants of the Danube Swabians. Several of his translations and writings are published at www.dvhh.org and www.dvhh.org/alexanderhausen .

Presenting field work conducted by fourteen Canadian and Sudanese-born Canadian researchers between 2003 and 2011, Canada in Sudan, Sudan in Canada explores salient and timely issues faced by both countries. Sudanese immigration to Canada and the transnational ties between the two countries are illuminated in the context of various case studies. Tensions, both social and political, are discussed through the recent secession of South Sudan, the Darfur conflict, and the rise of Islamic fundamentalism. The authors also broach the reconstruction efforts in education and health initiatives, transnationalism from below, and Canada’s role in conflict resolution in Sudan. Using qualitative and quantitative research methods that include interviews, surveys, participant observations, discourse analyses, and document analyses, researchers from a wide range of disciplinary approaches - sociology, anthropology, political science, social work, and health studies - reveal important conceptual and empirical perspectives about the processes of inclusion and exclusion. At a time when the Sudanese diaspora in Canada is growing and the conflict in Sudan has become a preoccupation of the international community, Canada in Sudan, Sudan in Canada reveals the root causes of conflict in Sudan and identifies measures to foster peace, stability, and development. Contributors include John Clayton (Samaritan’s Purse Canada in Calgary), Rod Crutcher (University of Calgary), Dalal Daoud (PhD student, Queens University), Allison Dennis (University of Calgary), Martha Fanjoy (University of Calgary), Juli Finlay (University of Calgary),, Amal Madibbo (University of Calgary), Susan McGrath (York University), Ruth Parent (University of Calgary), Shelley Ross (University of Alberta), Scott Shannon (University of Calgary), Ali Kamal, Ashley Soleski, and Daniel Madit Thon Duop (IMA World Health).

The Banat Of Timisoara written by Victor Neumann and has been published by Scala Arts Publishers Incorporated this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019 with History categories.

The Banat is a uniquely fascinating example of a European cross-border region, incorporating parts of western Romania, northeastern Serbia and a small area of southeastern Hungary. The team of historians, headed by Professor Victor Neumann of the West University in Timisoara, who have contributed to this volume are drawn from across the three modern nations of the region. They analyse the history and culture of the Banat from the earliest times, focusing on the 300 years since it was captured from the Ottoman Turks by Prince Eugene of Savoy. Today this ethnically diverse region has a distinct character of its own, and its Romanian seat, the city of Timisoara, exudes a character quite different from Transylvania and the rest of Romania. This new English edition of the book (originally published in Romanian in 2016 under the title Istoria Banatului) has been expanded and is published to support Timisoara's designation as European Capital of Culture in 2021. AUTHOR: Victor Neumann is a Romanian historian, political analyst, and professor at the West University in Timisoara. He is a well-known specialist in the recent cultural and intellectual histories of Eastern and Central Europe. Much of his work deals with Conceptual History, Jewish-Romanian history, the history of antisemitism, as well as various topics connected with nationalism. Since 2013 he has been Director of the Timisoara Museum of Arts. SELLING POINTS: * Contains the latest research on the history of a complex and fascinating region of Europe * Available in English for the first time * Expanded and updated edition * Published in anticipation of Timisoara's designation as European Capital of Culture for 2021 ILLUSTRATIONS: 30 colour, 30 b/w

German Balkan Entangled Histories In The Twentieth Century written by Christopher A. Molnar and has been published by University of Pittsburgh Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-10-20 with History categories.

This volume brings together a diverse group of scholars from North America and Europe to explore the history and memory of Germany’s fateful push for power in the Balkans during the era of the two world wars and the long postwar period. Each chapter focuses on one or more of four interrelated themes: war, empire, (forced) migration, and memory. The first section, “War and Empire in the Balkans,” explores Germany’s quest for empire in Southeast Europe during the first half of the century, a goal that was pursued by economic and military means. The book’s second section, “Aftershocks and Memories of War,” focuses on entangled German-Balkan histories that were shaped by, or a direct legacy of, Germany’s exceptionally destructive push for power in Southeast Europe during World War II. German-Balkan Entangled Histories in the Twentieth Century expands and enriches the neglected topic of Germany’s continued entanglements with the Balkans in the era of the world wars, the Cold War, and today.
