“The layman’s impression of a trial frequently comes from stage, motion picture, and television sources, which, while invariably exciting, are a pale simulation of a real trial. My quarrel with these presentations is not that they are technically incorrect, but that they are substantially inadequate. They lack emotional authenticity. They tend to become stereotyped. Their falsity largely defeats their authors’ purpose because the excitement, surprise, and meaningfulness of a real court contest are incomparable and elude imagination. In fictional court scenes one sharp contradiction often breaks the witness, who then hysterically screams a confession. In real life the witness’s fortitude in the face of exposure is as remarkable as a human body’s resistance to incredible torment. The need to survive creates desperation, and desperation makes possible survival. This circle of determination is not easily broken, and in the succeeding pages one will find dozens of entrapments and startling contradictions, leaving the witness no retreat and compelling him to admit his error. Yet he continues to fight back and clutch for the remote chance that the tide will turn and he will not go under. Sometimes, it does, and the bizarre developments that bring it about are also beyond inventiveness. This gruesome struggle exceeds the artificial concept of authors of what constitutes court drama in the same way that true human experience in any sphere exceeds the patterned concept of some fiction.” This gripping legal classic is organized as follows: Prologue: Opening the Green Doors 1. Reputation: The Libel Case of Quentin Reynolds vs. Westbrook Pegler 2. Divorce: The “War of the Roses” and Others 3. Talent: The Case of the Plagiarized Song “Rum and Coca-Cola” 4. Honor: Issue of Nazism in America 5. Life and Limb: Two Cases of Negligence 6. Proxy Battle: The Struggle Over Loew’s

Melodys Gifts: An Inspirational Story Of A Familys Determination That Neither Cerebral Palsy Nor Mental Retardation Would Silence Melodys Song This is the kind of book that will be hard for a reader, whether parent or special education professional, to put down. Melodys mother, Louise Wade, tells the story with intense emotions. She is not a writer but a mother with a story to tell, and she tells the story from her heart and soul. At times the reader may feel on top of the world, laughing and cheering at the adventures and victories of the family. At other times, the reader may cry softly as Louise expresses the depth of her grief that can only be found in a mothers heart. This is a true story, heartwarming, inspiring, and encouraging, about the authors daughter, Melody Marie, who was diagnosed at fourteen months of age to be profoundly brain damaged. Fortunately, the family was living in Pennsylvania at the time. They learned of the Doman-Delacato intensive patterning therapy program, which had a center just outside Philadelphia, and they were off and running. Louise moved with lightning speed to convince Jack, Melodys dad, and Mike, her seven year old brother, that the time had come to get little Melody crawling, creeping, walking and talking. A determined, driven mother with a bountiful supply of energy, Louise had soon organized small teams of patterners, all of which moved as little brigades to meet the enormous challenge. The familys energies were great and were rewarded with Melodys achievements. Their lives changed as Louise felt that the Lord was calling her into a lifelong career in special education. The career of Melodys dad, Jack, later changed to recreational therapy. Her older brother, Mike, majored in special education in college, and was President of the student chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children. Melody became an inspiration for each member of her family. The book reveals the inner-most feelings from her mothers heart about Melodys life from 1962 through 2008. She did her writing the old-fashioned way with pencil, paper, and lots of erasers. Louise, now in her seventies, has been relentless in her motivation. She applied great pressure on herself to get the story told before her health limited her physical activity. She drove sixty miles to enroll in a course called Writing Your Life Story. A small writing group emerged from the course and Louise never missed their meetings. She plodded along for months and years, then began to feel discouraged that perhaps she would not be able to see this project through to publication. She met Sheila Nelson by happenstance. Sheila began by proof-reading Louises work, then a series of events and circumstances changed her role to that of re-writing Melodys story. Sheila recognized that the load seemed to be getting too heavy for Louise to carry alone to the finish line (publication). Louise describes Sheila as an answer to my prayers! She worked tirelessly with the greatest dedication to complete the work. Her devotion, talent and abilities were paramount in the publishing of this work. Emily Gabrysch and Daniel Burdess, students at New River Community College in Dublin, Virginia, designed the book cover. They took hundreds of pictures of Melody happily playing her spoons, tambourine, and bells. The family selected one picture and had it framed for Melodys bedroom door. From that day on, Melody repeatedly encouraged her mother to write in the book. The illustrations are from Melodys personal photo album and pictures in her bedroom especially designed for her enjoyment. Before she could talk, the family bombarded her with meaningful pictures. Each created much happiness for all. They proved to be valuable in her early language development. A picture is worth a thousand words actually may be critical in stimulating communication. Louise wants Melodys story to make a positive impact in as many liv

The Time Of My Life written by Bill Medley and has been published by Da Capo Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-04-15 with Music categories.

From an early age, Bill Medley had a passion for music. School glee club and amateur singing contests soon gave way to the albums of Ray Charles and Little Richard. That raw R&B influence would profoundly shape Medley's musical future. As the pioneering “blue-eyed soul” group the Righteous Brothers, Bill Medley and late partner Bobby Hatfield sang such huge hits as “(You're My) Soul and Inspiration,” “Unchained Melody,” and “You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin',” the latter recognized by BMI as the most-played song of the twentieth century. Medley's duet with Jennifer Warnes for the Dirty Dancing soundtrack, “(I've Had) the Time of My Life,” became a worldwide No. 1 single on its way to winning an Oscar, a Grammy, and a Golden Globe. But Medley's story isn't just about the hits and the awards. It's about an immensely talented man who reached the pinnacle of fame, success, and excess, until the shocking murder of his wife, Karen. In time, this tragedy eventually helped him renew his commitment to both faith and family.

Despite the enormous amount of writing devoted to the Beatles during the last few decades, the band's abiding intellectual and cultural significance has received scant attention. Using various modes of literary, musicological, and cultural criticism, the essays in Reading the Beatles firmly establish the Beatles as a locus of serious academic and cultural study. Exploring the group's resounding impact on how we think about gender, popular culture, and the formal and poetic qualities of music, the contributors trace not only the literary and musicological qualities of selected Beatles songs but also the development of the Beatles' artistry in their films and the ways in which the band has functioned as a cultural, historical, and economic product. In a poignant afterword, Jane Tompkins offers an autobiographical account of the ways in which the Beatles afforded her with the self-actualizing means to become less alienated from popular culture, gender expectations, and even herself during the early 1960s.

Richard Wagner, the eminent 19th century German composer, has left a permanent mark in the history of classical music with masterpieces such as “Tristan and Isolde”, Tannhauser”, “Lohengrin”, “The Flying Dutchman”. “Parsifal”, and, above all, “Das Ring des Nibelungen”. Nevertheless, the life of this inspired composer was anything but tranquil. His “extreme” political ideas; the multitude of his love affairs; and his prodigal life that resulted in the constant accumulation of debts, have turned him into a fascinating historical figure. In the pages of the present three volume autobiography of his, the author narrates vividly his life. Volume one covers his earlier years, from his birth in 1813 to 1842, including his first marriage to Minna Planer and his settling to Paris.
