WARNING: I think this book is crap. It is the first edition and has not been updated like the Kindle version. I think the Kindle version is also crap and I am in the process of fully revising and re-releasing ... but this only happens after my current book - My Life Your Story - is published. If, after all this preamble, you still wish to buy the book, thank you.Have you ever had the desire to just drop everything and follow your Heart, as a last-chance gamble at finding True Love and Freedom? Philen Naidu did just that. Aged 23 he dropped out of university, strapped on a 25-litre backpack, left family and friends behind and set off into the deep and wild unknowns of REAL Africa, with nothing to rely on except a 'voice' inside. A voice that he trusted would lead him to True Love and Freedom. But would it? Naidu allows us to join him in his early-life crisis as he journeys into an Africa that few of us get to truly experience; and a journey within himself that few of us dare to choose. There's no new camera and bug spray in his luggage, as he heads north from his comfortable suburban South African upbringing into unknown rural lands. It's a movingly honest account of his time spent traveling and living amongst the people of tribal Zambia, his westernized way of thinking constantly challenged as he becomes accustomed to a new way of life. Whether he's bumping into wild hippo at night, sitting in the shade of mango trees with the villagers and sharing in their 'local brew', or learning the intricacies of smuggling items across the border for business, what he discovers along the way about life and himself is so clear and simple, yet so difficult to apply. It's a journey that will have you thinking about everything - where your food comes from and with whom you share it, to how you'd go about fighting off competitors to get the prized liver from a recently culled elephant. My Life My Africa is the inspiring true-life story of a young man's search to find purpose for his existence, and a Love worth living for. "In the tradition of Homer's Odyssey and Herman Hesse's Siddhartha, My Life My Africa invites the reader to experience a young man's journey to find his truth and to test himself against the forces of life that tempt him to abandon his soul and his beliefs." - Pulitzer Prize Nominee, Barbara Benjamin Take a Journey Through Africa and See it With Your Soul

Maalika written by Valerie Browning and has been published by Pan Australia this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009 with Afar (African people) categories.

In 1973, Valerie Browning, a young Sydney nurse, volunteered to go to Ethiopia to help the victims of a devastating famine. She had little or no conception of Africa or Africans, and yet the continent and its people would become the guiding force of her life.Galvanised by the suffering she witnessed in Ethiopia, on her return to Australia she became a human rights and aid activist for the people of the Horn of Africa. Valerie's work led her back to Africa again and again, involving her - at considerable risk to herself - in the armed liberation conflicts of the region. Even as she discovered brutality and corruption at the heart of these political movements, she also found love, marrying Ismael Ali Gardo, whose people, the Afar, roamed Ethiopia, Eritrea and the Sudan as nomadic herdsmen. Ismael's life mission was to help the Afar - desperately poor, uneducated, landless, and the victims of oppression in every country they once roved freely. Soon it became Valerie's too, as she embraced their culture and threw herself into their cause. In one of the most inhospitable landscapes on earth, Valerie and Ismael have waged an incredible struggle, bringing health and education to a people who would otherwise have nothing. Valerie's story is both an astonishing adventure and a testament to how determination and passion can achieve extraordinary things.

The Shadow Of The Sun written by Ryszard Kapuscinski and has been published by Penguin UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-03-28 with History categories.

'Only with the greatest of simplifications, for the sake of convenience, can we say Africa. In reality, except as a geographical term, Africa doesn't exist'. Ryszard Kapuscinski has been writing about the people of Africa throughout his career. In a study that avoids the official routes, palaces and big politics, he sets out to create an account of post-colonial Africa seen at once as a whole and as a location that wholly defies generalised explanations. It is both a sustained meditation on the mosaic of peoples and practises we call 'Africa', and an impassioned attempt to come to terms with humanity itself as it struggles to escape from foreign domination, from the intoxications of freedom, from war and from politics as theft.

Under The Sky Of My Africa written by Catharine Theimer Nepomnyashchy and has been published by Northwestern University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-05-30 with Literary Criticism categories.

A wide-ranging consideration of the nature and significance of Pushkin's African heritage Roughly in the year 1705, a young African boy, acquired from the seraglio of the Turkish sultan, was transported to Russia as a gift to Peter the Great. This child, later known as Abram Petrovich Gannibal, was to become Peter's godson and to live to a ripe old age, having attained the rank of general and the status of Russian nobility. More important, he was to become the great-grandfather of Russia's greatest national poet, Alexander Pushkin. It is the contention of the editors of this book, borne out by the essays in the collection, that Pushkin's African ancestry has played the role of a "wild card" of sorts as a formative element in Russian cultural mythology; and that the ways in which Gannibal's legacy has been included in or excluded from Pushkin's biography over the last two hundred years can serve as a shifting marker of Russia's self-definition. The first single volume in English on this rich topic, Under the Sky of My Africa addresses the wide variety of interests implicated in the question of Pushkin's blackness-race studies, politics, American studies, music, mythopoetic criticism, mainstream Pushkin studies. In essays that are by turns biographical, iconographical, cultural, and sociological in focus, the authors-representing a broad range of disciplines and perspectives-take us from the complex attitudes toward race in Russia during Pushkin's era to the surge of racism in late Soviet and post-Soviet contemporary Russia. In sum, Under the Sky of My Africa provides a wealth of basic material on the subject as well as a series of provocative readings and interpretations that will influence future considerations of Pushkin and race in Russian culture.
