Poetry and Flash fiction stories from a lifetime. The following pages were written over a period of eighteen years. It was a period of growth for me on the journey of becoming the woman I am today. Depression and bulimia have always played within a dark corner of my life. I have suffered from them both since an early age. One of the ways I have dealt with my "problems," is through pen to paper. Writing helped me escape. It gave me a friend to talk to when I was alone and simply so needed someone. Afterall one can be in a room full of loud boisterous people and still be alone. Writing became my friend and my soul mate. I will always be thankful for Francis Ford Coppola's Zoetrope Virtual Studios. During some of my darkest times, I turned to the Zoetrope to write, read and experience life. I was so amazed after not having visited the studio in several years that twenty -eight of my flash fictions stories were still available to me. The following is my struggle with life, beginning and ending of relationships, some of it happened to me, some of it was mere fantasy. My hope is that possibly it may resonate with someone going through some of the same struggles. Tawsha K. Brinkley

My hope is that this book comforts, intrigues, captivates, and amuses you. So what are you waiting for, grab a ladder and climb into my mind. My Voice I feel the tattoos on my back sting, but I know that one more scar wouldnt change the memory it has left behind. With no reason to live, I feel ready to take that final step. I rise from my spot and give my fingers a break. I glance down at the tobacco leaves I have picked, knowing I am not allowed to stop. But why should I care? I have no voice, I serve no purpose. I am just a slave. I stand still looking in his eyes full of hate. He whips out his weapon as I begin to walk away from my work area. I never turn my head as he yells for me to turn back. I keep marching at a steady pace until I see beyond the fields a man of my kind with a voice -- a voice that is strong, that is making others listen; a voice that has power, and speaks only for change. This makes me turn around and sit back down, knowing my voice wont take long to be heard.

Given away to an abusive family by the very people that brought her into this world, the Author had to find an outlet or risk going insane. Having nothing else to turn to, she found her vintage point behind the pen she held in her hand. It was her only release, her only escape from the reality that surrounded her. Each one of these poems tells a story of either triumph or defeat, creating visual art with her words through all elements of life; strength, betrayal, abandonment, violation, love, sorrow and success.
