The God that we were brought up on is not big enough to be God. To be both religious and spiritual, modernity must be able to absorb the notion of a cosmic and evolving God. This notion redefines the place and purpose of humanity itself. The old notions of who is in charge, who is superior and whose theology is paramount is in a state of flux. Unless, or until, this new vision comes into play, directs our hearts, guides our business, underlies our technology, the world itself is not ready to understand or survive the horizon of Newness on which it stands.

This book is an autobiographical memoir. It tells the story of how God prepared me for the work of theology during childhood and during my schooling at Princeton, Westminster, and Yale. It focuses on those events that shaped my theological convictions and led me to develop my distinctive emphases in theology, apologetics, and philosophy. It seeks to honor God's providence in leading me from one point to another in my life as a son, husband, father, theologian, apologist, and churchman. My goal in the book is to show how one's theological convictions are products, not only of logic and reasoning, but also of the events of one's life and the people one interacts with.

In The Corner of Fourth and Nondual, a title inspired by Thomas Merton's moment of revelation 'at the Corner of Fourth and Walnut' in his celebrated essay 'A Member of the Human Race', Cynthia Bourgeault - internationally-renowned retreat leader, practitioner and teacher of Centering Prayer - describes the foundations of her theology: a cosmological seeing with the eye of the heart, and classic Benedictine daily rule informed and enlightened by wisdom from the Asian traditions. She explains the influence of the author of The Cloud of Unknowing, Teilhard de Chardin, Boehme, Barnhart, Keating and Gurdjieff, among others in a philosophy built on the cornerstones of the Incarnation and the Paschal Mystery, tied by the Trinity as a cosmogonic principle, the fundamental generative mechanism through which all things came into being.

My TheologyThe world's leading Christian thinkers explain some of the principal tenets of their theological beliefs.'Peace is worth fighting for,' writes Scot McKnight. 'I don't witness to peace to win the world but to offer a Christian alternative to the 155 million deaths in twentieth-century wars. This small book records some of my journey.'Growing up in the Viet Nam era, living through periods of American conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan, and engaging with the ethics of war, gun control, the death penalty, abortion, and the inhumane treatment of prisoners, McKnight has developed a peace ethic that embodies the self-denial ethic of Jesus and demonstrates that warring and the Christian faith are incompatible. The Audacity of Peace describes his journey, with reference to key thinkers who have influenced him along the way.

Jennifer Brost felt she'd been beaten physically, emotionally, and spiritually to within an inch of her existence. While in her early 20s, Jennifer's mother-in-law and mother died I year apart. One & a half years later, her father was killed in a car accident. On this same morning, Jennifer went into cardiac arrest due to complications of a routine surgery; the child she was pregnant with died on this day as well. Through the deaths of her mother-in-law and mother, Jennifer consoled herself with three beliefs: 1) All hardships are good in disguise, 2) God causes or allows all suffering, 3) Little can be done to make life better (so sit back & relax). Strangely, as Jennifer faced the deaths of her father and son, as well as her own failing health, she felt unsettled about her three beliefs. She began to hate God and begged her husband to leave his seminary training.

My Theology written by John Swinton and has been published by My Theology this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-01-26 with categories.

John Swinton argues that theologians' own stories inevitably matter in relation to the study of the divine. It follows that Swinton describes his place of formation walking alongside people living with intellectual disabilities, mental health challenges and dementia, and how it has gifted him with the opportunity to ask different questions of the tradition; questions that emerge from the lives of people who see the world differently. That learning has shaped him as a theologian and raised some crucial questions around the nature of faithfulness, discipleship and the question of exactly what kind of community the church is and should be in both theory and in practice - one, Swinton hopes, that can encourage Christians to begin to appreciate even more deeply the goodness, kindness and love of God for all human beings.
