The Travel Diaries Of Peter Pears 1936 1978 written by Peter Pears and has been published by Boydell & Brewer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

PETER PEARS's reputation as an outstanding and distinctive tenor is grounded in his interpretations of Benjamin Britten's works; their partnership of thirty years significantly shaped and defined musical developments not only in England but on a broader plane. Throughout their busy professional lives they travelled extensively, on concert tours and on holiday, finding fresh stimulus in change. Pear's twelve travel diaries, brought together in this volume, record much of that travel and provide valuable contextual material on the musical development of both Pears and Britten. The first diary dates from 1936, the year before his friendship with Britten began, when he went on tour to North America with the New English Singers. Other diaries record the five-month tour to the Far East and the important encounters (especially for Britten) with the gamelan music of Bali and the Japanese Noh theatre; visits to Russia as guests of Mstislav Rostropovich and his wife Galina Vishnevskaya, where they met significant figures from Russian musical life; and attendance at the Ansbach Bach Festival when Pears was at the height of his career. Also recorded are holidays in the Caribbean and Italy, a concert tour through the north of England, and accounts of the rehearsals and performances of the New York premieres of Billy Budd and Death in Venice.

My Trip Abroad written by Frank J. Daily and has been published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-04-08 with Europe categories.

In the summer of 1936, a 30-year-old school teacher from Chicago boarded a luxury liner in New York's harbor. Bound for England and points beyond, Frank Daily set out to fulfill his dreams of what for him would be "the trip of a lifetime." For two months he traveled through Europe, fascinated by the historical icons, captivated by the unique character of each country's denizens - and alarmed by the rising tide of fascism in Italy and Nazi Germany. Years later, his son (also named Frank Daily) found two handwritten journals stored in a box - his father's daily record of his European journey. Stirred by his father's appreciation of culture and eye for detail, he decided to publish the journals as a book for the Daily family - and anyone else - to read. "My Trip Abroad" is a trip back in time, a personal reflection of what life was like for a young American discovering Europe 80 years ago - and a prescient and timely glimpse of things to come.

Rethinking Children and Families considers the way we approach the complex relationship between childhood, families and the state, and explores the contested nature of the terms childhood, family and state. Theoretical and practice-based perspectives are discussed within the context of recent key developments. Examples of research, reflections on research and key points and guidance on further reading make this a really accessible text. Rethinking Children and Families is essential reading for those studying childhood at undergraduate and graduate level, and will be of great interest to those working with children in any field.

Dialogues Of Paul Tillich written by Mary Ann Stenger and has been published by Mercer University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002 with Philosophy categories.

The broad impact of Paul Tillich on present-day philosophical-theological thoughtforms--especially of Protestant Christianity--continues unbated into the new century. "Dialogues of Paul Tillich presents Tillich's "conversations with past religious thinkers" basic to Tillich's thought, but also carries the dialogue beyond Tillich's own formulations into conversations with current issues regarding feminism, liberation theology, fundamentalism, world religions, and Christian realism. The essays in "Dialogues of Paul Tillich reflect and contribute to that conversation.

This book offers a moving tribute to one of the twentieth century's most seminal philosophers and theologians, Paul Tillich. In fact, it is widely accepted as the standard biography for Tillich. A soberly objective portrait, it was supported by Tillich himself, who hoped that the full telling of his story would set in context its unconventional aspects (as told in books by Hannah Tillich and Rollo May). Wilhelm and Marion Pauck have recreated the many-sided "Paulus" in all his greatness and humanness. Tracing the development of Tillich's thought alongside the unfolding of his life in Germany and the United States, the authors have provided an excellent model of biographical research.
