વાતને વળ ચડાવીને કહેવાની કળા શાહબુદ્દીન વાત કહેતા હોય ત્યારે તમને ક્યાંય એવું ન લાગે કે એ રમૂજનાં થીંગડાં મારે છે. હાસ્ય એ કદાચ અઘરામાં અઘરી કળા છે. આ હાસ્યને ઠેઠ લગી નિભાવવું એ અત્યંત કપરું કામ છે. એમના હાસ્યસભર વક્તવ્ય પાછળ કેટલીયે બારીક અને માર્મિક વાતોના અણસારા-ભણકારા હોય છે. હાસ્યની કરોડરજ્જુ તત્ત્વજ્ઞાન હોય છે. કેટલીક તાત્ત્વિક વાતો પણ તેમાં લપાયેલી હોય છે. શાહબુદ્દીનમાં આ બધું જ જોવા-સાંભળવા મળે. નિરીક્ષણ, સંવેદનશક્તિ અને ભરપૂર વાચન વિના આ શક્ય નથી. આ કલાકાર પાસે અનેક અનુભવો છે. વાતને વળ ચડાવીને કહેતાં આવડે છે. ઉત્તમ હાસ્ય કડવાશમાંથી નથી પ્રગટતું પણ કરુણામાંથી પ્રગટે છે. ઘણી વાર આપણે જાણે કે આંસુની અવેજીમાં હસતા હોઈએ છીએ. જીવનમાં ઘણું બધું હસવા જેવું છે કે હસી કાઢવા જેવું છે. એની વાત આપણને રહી રહીને સમજાય છે. અહીં સંચિત થયેલા અનેક લેખોમાં બારીમાંથી જેમ તાજી હવા અને સૂર્યપ્રકાશ આવતાં હોય એમ હાસ્ય અનેક રૂપે આવે છે. ક્યારેક એ તમને ખડખડાટ હસાવે છે તો ક્યારેક એમની વાત તમારા હોઠના ખૂણા પર એક સ્મિત થઈને પ્રસરી જાય છે. માત્ર આપણા જ સાહિત્યમાં પણ હાસ્ય વિરલ છે. આવી પરિસ્થિતિમાં આપણને આવો સમૃદ્ધ સંચય મળે એ આનંદની ઘટના છે. –સુરેશ દલાલ

Madman, tyrant, animal—history has given Adolf Hitler many names. In Mein Kampf (My Struggle), often called the Nazi bible, Hitler describes his life, frustrations, ideals, and dreams.
