In the second half of the twentieth century, the Olympics played an important role in the politics of the Cold War and was part of the conflicts between the Capitalist Block, the Socialist Block and Third World countries. The Games of the New Emerging Forces (GANEFO) is one of the best examples of the politicization of sport and the Olympics in the Cold War era. From the 1980s onward, the Olympics has facilitated communication and cooperation between nations in the post–Cold War era and contributed to the formation of a new world order. In August 2016, the Games of the XXXI Olympiad were held in Rio de Janeiro, making Brazil the first South American country to host the Summer Olympics. This was widely regarded as a new landmark event in the history of the modern Olympic movement. From the GANEFO to Rio, the Olympic Games have witnessed the shifting balance in international politics and world economy. Situada no Estado espanhol, no noroeste de Península Ibérica, a Galiza, junto com o norte de Portugal, já foi definida como a "célula matricial da lusofonia". Foi lá que nasceu a língua que, por meio de Portugal, iria se difundir pelo restante do mundo. Não obstante os laços culturais e linguísticos que nos unem à Galiza, é grande o desconhecimento no Brasil a respeito da cultura, história e literatura galegas. É com o objetivo de começar a suprir essa lacuna que este estudo volta-se para as estratégias de construção da identidade e constituição do sistema literário na Galiza. Para isso, primeiramente, debruça-se sobre a noção de identidade cultural e suas mutações na (pós)modernidade. A seguir, rastreia o surgimento e as transformações dos conceitos de nação e nacionalismo, suas implicações na ascensão dos Estados nacionais modernos e a situação das nações sem Estado, detendo-se sobre o conceito de "comunidade imaginada", cunhado por Benedict Anderson. A partir daí, depois de um mergulho na história da Galiza e nas origens de seu nacionalismo, problematiza, à luz da Teoria dos Polissistemas, o conceito de sistema literário e sua aplicabilidade à literatura produzida na Galiza e em galego. Então, após um olhar sobre a história da literatura galega e os problemas concernentes a sua língua e sua relação com o português, o trabalho se detém de maneira especial sobre três narrativas: os romances Arredor de si, de Ramón Otero Pedrayo (1930), Periferias, de Carlos Quiroga (1999) – ambos autores galegos –, e o relato de viagens Chão galego, do brasileiro de pai galego Renard Perez (1972). Com efeito, conhecer a Galiza e a sua história, longe de mero diletantismo, é uma viagem de retorno às nossas origens linguístico-culturais, um périplo de volta à fonte onde pela primeira vez soaram as palavras que hoje ouvimos e falamos.
