The book, Teaching ELLs Across Content Areas: Issues and Strategies, is a unique, useful text written for K–12 teachers. This book is the culmination of the professional knowledge, expertise, and experience from the distinguished authors who represent the entire range of the content areas, including: language arts, science, mathematics, technology, arts, psychology, and Hispanic studies. The ELL school population has reached 5.3 million with the increase rate of 51 percent from School Year 1998-1999 to 2008-2009 (NCELA, 2012). By 2025, one out of four K-12 students will be ELLs (NEA Policy Brief, 2013). The NEA data states that the ELLs are the fastest-growing student population group in our schools and providing them with high-quality services and programs is an important investment in America’s future (NEA Policy Brief, 2013). With the fast growth of the ELLs in schools, basic information and strategies are needed by all K-12 teachers. This book provides useful information and strategies for all K-12 teachers in content classrooms. This book has three significances. First, the book provides the most needed information for K-12 teachers with issues and strategies that are important in content areas to help ELLs’ success. With the fast growth of the ELLs in schools, K-12 teachers need this information in content classrooms. Second, the book fills the gap related to teaching ELLs in content areas. There are some existing books with titles on teaching ELLs across content areas; yet, these books provide general information with fewer books that really address specific content topics. This book is unique because it has the dedicated chapters for specific content areas, e.g., Language Arts, Science, Math, Social Studies with issues and strategies in these respective contents as well as general information, e.g., L2 theories for teachers to know and work with ELLs. Third, the book is reader-friendly with carefully crafted chapters. Each chapter begins with a scenario to catch the reader’s attention, is followed by issues and strategies, and ends with a summary. A scenario begins with each chapter for teachers to get to know the ELLs with the content that focuses on the related information and teaching strategies. With the continued increase in the ELL school population, this book is intended helping all K-12 teachers in content areas have knowledge and strategies to better serve their ELLs.

The DOG ON A LOG Get Ready! Readers Series was created at teacher request for students who are just learning to read. The seven-book series includes the sound-out content and tracing letters from The Squiggle Code and Kids' Squiggles. Reader 1 starts with just six letters and two sight words. Each following Get Ready! Reader adds a few more letters. By Book 7, students will have been introduced to the five short vowel and 21 primary consonant sounds as well as 11 sight words. Research shows the most effective way to teach reading is with explicit systematic phonics. That means you teach just a few phonics rules then the student practices reading books with just the rules they have been taught. Each DOG ON A LOG Book has a list of the included letters and phonics rules as well as the "sight words" that cannot be sounded-out with the presented phonics. Kids can learn those words before beginning each book. The listed sight words will be the only words in the book that cannot be sounded-out with the rules from the DOG ON A LOG Phonics Progression. Some families may use the (Blue) Get Ready! Readers in addition to their school's reading instruction or as independent homeschoolers. Other families may prefer to use the more economical Kids' Squiggles and supplement the stories with printable words and sentences. Parents trying to teach their child to read, whether they are supplementing what their child is being taught in school or as a homeschooling family, can use the DOG ON A LOG Get Ready! Books series to teach the foundational phonological awareness skills, introduce the letters, and teach blending. These parent-friendly books are a guide for teaching reading. DOG ON A LOG Get Ready! Books give simple activities you can do with your child. Once you understand the skills that your child needs to learn, you may wish to add additional activities. Resources are suggested that will help you find additional free or low-cost activities you can personalize to your child. Paper books are optimized for learners with dyslexia. They have cream-colored paper, black and white images, and large Verdana font. Verdana is one of the most dyslexia-friendly fonts. Book 1: "Before the Squiggle Code (A Roadmap to Reading)" Starts at the very beginning of the learning to read process: it helps the learner hear the smallest sounds in words. Relevant excerpts from "Teaching a Struggling Reader: One Mom's Experience with Dyslexia" are also included to help parents with children who are struggling to read. Book 2: "The Squiggle Code (Letters Make Words)" Helps the learner discover that each sound has a letter or letters and when the letters are put together, they make words. This is when reading begins. Book 3: "Kids' Squiggles (Letters Make Words)" The seven sound-out stories from "The Squiggle Code" in a child-friendly format with pictures and less words per page. Each story adds a new group of letters. Get Ready! Readers 1 to 7 (Can be used instead of "Kids' Squiggles") Each of these seven readers includes just one story from "Kids' Squiggles" along with traceable letters and sound-out content from "The Squiggle Code." Book 1 Nan Fam (Classroom and Home) Letters Introduced: (a, s, m, f, t, n) Book 2 Tag (Classroom and Home) Letters Introduced: (r, d, c, g) Book 3 The Tot (Classroom and Home) Letters Introduced: (o) Book 4 Max and Sal (Classroom and Home) Letters Introduced: (b, h, l, x) Book 5 Bip, Sop, Lob (Classroom and Home) Letters Introduced: (i, p, k, j) Book 6 Jan and Quin (Classroom and Home) Letters Introduced: (u, y, z, qu) Book 7 Wet Van (Classroom and Home) Letters Introduced: (e, v, w) Phonological & phonemic awareness skil

Keeping The Nation S House written by Helen M. Schneider and has been published by UBC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-02-19 with History categories.

For many, the term home economics conjures images of sterile classrooms where young girls and women learn to cook dinner and swaddle dolls, far removed from the seats of power. Keeping the Nation’s House unsettles this assumption by revealing how elite Chinese women helped to build modern China one family at a time. Trained between the 1920s and the early 1950s, home economists believed that their discipline would transform the most fundamental of political spaces – the home – by teaching women to nurture ideal families and manage projects of social reform. Although their discipline came undone after 1949, it created a legacy of gendered professionalism and reinforced the idea that leaders should shape domestic rituals of the people. By focusing on an overlooked group of Chinese women, this book genders the past by showing how these women helped make the present, and it reveals how a group of intellectuals made the transition to the Communist era.

History Of Multicultural Education Volume 5 written by Carl A. Grant and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-23 with Education categories.

This benchmark 6-volume set documents, analyzes, and critiques a comprehensive body of research on the history of multicultural education in the U.S. The volumes reflect the tenets of multicultural education, its history, its present, and individuals whose work has contributed significantly to equity and social justice for all citizens. By collecting and providing a framework for key publications spanning the last 30-40 years, this set provides a means of understanding and visualizing the development, implementation, and interpretation of multicultural education in American society. The volumes do not promote any one scholar’s or group’s vision of multicultural education, but include conflicting ideals that inform multiple interpretations. Each volume contains archival documents organized around a specific theme: Conceptual Frameworks and Curricular Content; Foundations and Stratifications; Instruction and Assessment; Policy and Governance; Students and Student Achievement; Teachers and Teacher Education. The historical time line within each volume illustrates the progression of research and theory on its theme and encourages readers to reflect on the changes in language and thinking concerning educational scholarship in that area.
