Nanoscale Assembly written by Wilhelm T.S. Huck and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-07-11 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Nanotechnology has received tremendous interest over the last decade, not only from the scientific community but also from a business perspective and from the general public. Although nanotechnology is still at the largely unexplored frontier of science, it has the potential for extremely exciting technological innovations that will have an enormous impact on areas as diverse as information technology, medicine, energy supply and probably many others. The miniturization of devices and structures will impact the speed of devices and information storage capacity. More importantly, though, nanotechnology should lead to completely new functional devices as nanostructures have fundamentally different physical properties that are governed by quantum effects. When nanometer sized features are fabricated in materials that are currently used in electronic, magnetic, and optical applications, quantum behavior will lead to a set of unprecedented properties. The interactions of nanostructures with biological materials are largely unexplored. Future work in this direction should yield enabling technologies that allows the study and direct manipulation of biological processes at the (sub) cellular level.

Nanoscale Assembly And Fabrication By Electrokinetics written by Wen Jung Li and has been published by William Andrew this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-01-05 with Technology & Engineering categories.

The ability to move, manipulate and precisely assemble nanoscale materials is key to further advances in nanotechnology, especially nanoscale manufacturing, fabrication of sensors, electronics components etc. Electrokinetics is a key technique for achieving these ends, an is already widely used in MEMS and nanotechnology applications. This book provides a thorough overview of electrokinetics, focusing on both theoretical and experimental aspects of this important technique. Wen Li shows how to use electric field concepts to assemble nanoscale systems (i.e. systems on the scale of molecules). The use of field forces, as in electrokinetics, offers the level of precision required to manipulate and assemble large arrays of similar structures at the nano-scale. Electrokinetics is also put into a broader context by the author's wider examination of nanoscale systems, including an explanation of how competing forces and interactions operate at the molecular scale. Wen Li's book will enable readers to develop the ability to systematically design nano-sensing platforms and nano-manufacturing systems in a range of applications for areas including healthcare, precision engineering, lubrication, cell manipulation and the analysis of biological samples. Build a fundamental understanding of how to rapidly manipulate and assemble nanoscale entities using electrokinetics. Gain knowledge of the engineering methods available for parallel nanoscale manipulation, assembly, and manufacturing. Develop the ability to systematically design nano-sensing platforms and nano-manufacturing systems.

Adopting a unique approach, this book provides a thorough, one-stop introduction to nanoscience and self-assembly of nanomaterials composed of such materials as metals, metal oxides, metal sulphides, polymers, and biopolymers. Clearly divided into three sections covering the main aspects of nanoscience, the first part deals with the basic principles of nanoscale science. Alongside essential approaches and forces, this section also covers thermodynamics, phase transitions, and applications to biological systems. The second and third parts then go on to provide a detailed description of the synthesis of inorganic and organic nanoparticles, respectively. With its interdisciplinary content of importance to many different branches of nanoscience, this is essential reading for material scientists, physicists, biophysical chemists, chemical engineers, and biotechnologists alike.

All of us have read about the vast potential inherent in nanotechnology and the exciting impact it has had in changing our lifestyle in the 21st century. One of the basic issues confronting us is how to fabricate devices or materials on the nano scale. What is the basic physics governing the formation of nano phases? How can biological systems inspire us to formulate nano scale architectures, in the way nature has always done and continues to do? These are two main areas of focus in this book. The aim of this reference is to take us to the root of these issues: the solid-fluid interfacial structures and the basic interactions between structural units that determine the kinetics of nano particles and assembly formation, and subsequently the resulting structures and functionalities of the nano phases and devices. By taking a fresh look at the novel nano structure engineering and surface probing technologies from a global viewpoint of fundamental principles, the two volumes of this book direct our focus from the macroscopic phase to the nano structures ranging from inorganic to bio nano materials. Featuring contributions from a number of international experts in the related fields, this book offers a comprehensive and synergistic look into these challenging issues in terms of theoretical modeling, computer simulations, advanced surface probing and fabrication and interface characterizations. The book also provides a link to the nanostructure engineering of some novel materials playing an important role in advancing technologies in this field.

While the field of clusters and nano-structures in the physical sciences has been actively pursued only over the past two decades, nature has known the benefits of the nanoscale for a very long time. The focus of the International Symposium on Clusters and Nano-Assemblies: Physical and Biological Systems was to explore ways in which an understanding of the unique properties of nano-scale biological systems such as proteins, enzyme reactions, RNA, and DNA can help us design novel materials composed of inorganic nano-scale systems, and how techniques developed in the physical sciences can lead to a fundamental understanding of biological systems. Bringing together the expert contributions from the conference, this book deals with the fundamental science and technology of atomic clusters, nano-structures and their assemblies in physical and biological systems. It explores in fascinating detail the manner in which finite size, low dimensionality, and reduced symmetry affect the properties of nano-assemblies.
