Desde estos tempranos años del siglo XXI miramos hacia atrás la literatura y en particular la narrativa que escriben las mujeres en Colombia. ¿Por qué senderos se han movido para llegar a esa rica y valiosa producción novelística que tenemos hoy? ¿Por cuáles silencios, invisibilizaciones y reconocimientos han pasado hasta llegar a configurar hoy un panorama tan variado? Recorreremos en este texto esos caminos. El ejercicio de la escritura por parte de las mujeres se inició muy tempranamente en el país: en los claustros coloniales, en el límite entre los siglos XVII y XVIII, Josefa del Castillo y otras mujeres, especialmente religiosas, plasman en el papel sus búsquedas, sus sentimientos, sus angustias. En medio de un omnipresente paradigma patriarcal y al parecer por responder, precisamente, a la exigencia de "un jerarca de la Iglesia" la monja de Tunja deja oír su voz, legándonos su testimonio: Padre mío, hoy, día de la Natividad de Nuestra Señora, empiezo en su nombre a hacer lo que Vuestra Paternidad me manda y a pensar y considerar delante del Señor todos los años de mi vida en amargura de mi alma, pues todos los hallo gastados mal, y así me alegro de hacer memoria de ellos, para confundirme en la divina presencia...
