Craig Calhoun, one of the most respected social scientists in the world, re-examines nationalism in light of post-1989 enthusiasm for globalization and the new anxieties of the twenty-first century. Nations Matter argues that pursuing a purely postnational politics is premature at best and possibly dangerous. Calhoun argues that, rather than wishing nationalism away, it is important to transform it. One key is to distinguish the ideology of nationalism as fixed and inherited identity from the development of public projects that continually remake the terms of national integration. Standard concepts like 'civic' vs. 'ethnic' nationalism can get in the way unless they are critically re-examined – as an important chapter in this book does. This book is essential reading for undergraduate and postgraduate students of sociology, history, political theory and all subjects concerned with nationalism, globalization, and cosmopolitanism.

Nation sovereignty, an integral part of God’s plan of protection and well-being for people within secure sovereign borders, is being assaulted all over the Western world. Nations Are God’s Idea exposes the assaulting forces: well-funded, well-positioned ideological agitators and their deceived, willing accomplices. Manipulating and weaponizing every area of concern—climate, environment, gender, immigration, property, poverty, race—and using every cultural outlet to advantage, the agitators seek to divide, overwhelm, and conquer. Where is God in all this? What is he doing? What is he calling his church to do? God is not silent! He is active! Speaking truth to the human condition and to every human concern, he has strategically positioned his people in the exact places of his choosing and authorized them to act in his name, with his power, for a time such as this. Nations Are God’s Idea reveals God’s perspective on all the major issues and shows biblical ways his people and all people of goodwill can counter, neutralize, and defeat the insanity engulfing Western nations today. The only question: Will people engage in the battle, or will they remain silent? Time will tell. Time is short.

Nation States And Nationalisms written by Sinisa Malesevic and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-21 with Social Science categories.
Despite many predictions made over the last two hundred years that nation-states and nationalism are transient phenomena that will eventually fade away, the historical record and contemporary events show otherwise. Nationalism still remains the most popular, potent and resilient ideological discourse and the nation-state the only legitimate mode of territorial rule. This innovative and concise book provides an in-depth analysis of the processes involved in the emergence, formation, expansion and transformation of nation-states and nationalisms as they are understood today. Sinisa Malesevic examines the historical predecessors of nation-states (from hunting and gathering bands, through city-states, to modernizing empires) and explores the historical rise of organizational and ideological powers that eventually gave birth to the modern nation-state. The book also investigates the ways in which nationalist ideologies were able to envelop the microcosm of family, kin, residential and friendship networks. Other important topics covered along the way include: the relationships between nationalism and violence; the routine character of nationalist experience; and the impacts of globalization and religious revivals on the transformation of nationalisms and nation-states. This insightful analysis of nationalisms and nation-states through time and space will appeal to scholars and students in sociology, politics, history, anthropology, international relations and geography.

Morality And Legality Of Secession written by Pau Bossacoma Busquets and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-11-19 with Law categories.
This book explores secession from three normative disciplines: political philosophy, international law and constitutional law. The author first develops a moral theory of secession based on a hypothetical multinational contract. Under this contract theory, injustices do not determine the existence of a right to secede, but the requirements to exercise it. The book’s second part then argues that international law is more inclined to accept and advance a remedial right approach to secession. Therefore, justice as multinational fairness is to be fully institutionalized under the constitutional law of liberal democracies. The final part proposes constitutionalizing a qualified right to secede with the aim of fostering recognition and accommodation of national pluralism as well as cooperation and compromise between majority and minority nations.
