Social and emotional functioning (interpersonal interactions, social adjustment, emotional well-being, and mental health) among children and adolescents has drawn growing attention from academics, practitioners, parents, educators, and policymakers. Worldwide, it is agreed that social and emotional development is a result of individual-context interactions. Particularly, socialization perspectives regard parenting as the primary factor that shapes child and adolescent development to a large extent. Meanwhile, the ecological perspective highlights the bi-directional nature of interactions between children and parents by which they affect each other. Parenting can be parents’ active socialization actions that influence their children’s development (i.e., parent effect); it can also be parents’ reactions to their children’s social and emotional functioning (i.e., child effect).

The text covers philosophical, psychological and pedagogical considerations underpinning moral reasoning, as well as the status of socioscientific issues in science education.

Ethics Teaching In Higher Education written by Daniel Callahan and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Philosophy categories.
A concern for the ethical instruction and formation of students has always been a part of American higher education. Yet that concern has by no means been uniform or free from controversy. The centrality of moral philosophy in the undergraduate curriculum during the mid-19th Century gave way later during that era to the first signs of increasing specialization of the disciplines. By the middle of the 20th Century, instruction in ethics had, by and large, become confined almost exclusively to departments of philosophy and religion. Efforts to introduce ethics teaching in the professional schools and elsewhere in the university often met with indifference or outright hostility. The past decade has seen a remarkable resurgence of the interest in the teaching of ethics, at both the undergraduate and the professional school levels. Beginning in 1977, The Hastings Center, with the support of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and the Carnegie Corporation of New York, undertook a system atic study of the state of the teaching of ethics in American higher education.

These are the first two volumes in an important new five-book series derived from sections of the international bestseller, Handbook of Personal Relationships, Second Edition, by Steve Duck. The purpose of the series is to allow professionals and students easy access to state-of-the-art theory and practice in specific areas of personal relationships—an increasingly popular field of research and therapeutic practice that focuses on the processes by which individuals relate to each other in social and family settings. Each paperback is an updated and expanded version of its corresponding section in the Handbook, and contains several new chapters that provide a greater breadth of coverage.
