On his first nocturnal mission in 1989, searching river boats for an expected drug haul, Federal Police agent Jorge Pontes heard something he would never forget: "—It's nothing, just turtles!" Over a hundred freshwater turtles, one bigger than the other, packed into the cargo hold of a fishing boat. For that team of agents, so focused on its mission to find and seize a few dozen kilos of cocaine paste, a hull-load of smuggled turtles meant "nothing". But for Jorge Pontes, that scene not only raised a thousand questions about the remit of the Federal Police, but was the spark that would lead, some years later, to his formal submission of a proposal for the creation of a unit specializing in crimes against the nation's flora and fauna. This proposal gave rise to the Division for the Repression of Crimes Against the Environment and Natural Heritage (DMAPH), signed into law on December 13, 2001. In Nature Warriors, Jorge Pontes recounts some crucial episodes that led to the division's creation and some of the mega-operations launched during his tenure. This volume offers an interdisciplinary study of how different cultures have sought to transform individuals into warriors. War changes people, however a less explored question is how different societies want people to change as they are turned into warriors. When societies go to war they recognize that a boundary is being crossed. The participants are expected to do things that are otherwise prohibited, or at least governed by different rules. This edited volume analyses how different cultures have conceptualized the transformations of an individual passing from a peacetime to a wartime existence to become an active warrior. Despite their differences, all societies grapple with the same question: how much of the individual’s peace-self should be and can be retained in the state of war? The book explores cases such as the Nordic berserkers, the Japanese samurai, and European knights, as well as modern soldiers in Germany, Liberia, and Sweden. It shows that archaic and modern societies are more similar than we usually think: both kinds of societies use myths, symbols, and rituals to create warriors. Thus, this volume seeks to redefine theories of modernization and secularization. It shows that military organizations need to take myths, symbols, and rituals seriously in order to create effective units. Modern sensibilities have clouded historical views of slavery, perhaps more so than any other medieval social institution. I pray that you have been encouraged to get back into the race for the battle for righteousness. I pray that you get wisdom and understanding to what caused your wounds. If you do not know what caused them you will not know how to pray effectively to get specific result that you are praying to accomplish. Ask yourself these three questions: number one - were your wounds self-affected by being disobedient to HIS Word? Number two - were your wounds caused by trials and tribulation through the testing of your faith? Number three - were they caused by attacks from Satan and his demons? If you know the wounds were self-affected by acts of disobedience then pray for forgiveness and receive HIS mercy and grace (Psalm 103:3). If it is by trials and the testing of your faith then pray for strength and rebuke fear out of your life and be encouraged by HIS every Word (1 Corinthians 16:13). If they are by attacks of Satan and his demons then rebuke them and bind them by speaking the Word of GOD with boldness and authority in JESUS name (Ephesians 6:10-18). Always be on guard and never let your guard down by keeping on your spiritual armor at all times. Take appropriate responses to the wounds you have received by being a prepared people in GOD's Word on this earth. We must transform our lives to GOD's Holy Will. We must have a prescribed rule of conduct or action toward our everyday living. Know that whatever causes your wounds, no matter how deep it may be, it should never replace the love of GOD in your heart. HE knows what you are going through and HE knows how to fix it! Now pray this prayer: Dear Heavenly Father please forgive me for not trusting in You and doubting Your love for me. Renew my spirit Lord with the Spirit of Wisdom that I may get understanding. Lord give me a hunger and a thirst after Your righteousness and may I always be aware of Your presence with fear and humbleness. I will confess now: I'm fearless, strong and fully persuaded in my faith. I'm an Ultimate Warrior here on this earth for the Kingdom of GOD in JESUS name.
