Volumes have been written on the need for high-quality data to support organizational decision-making. Most of those books appear to focus on the development and sustainment of data from the standpoint of those directly responsible for the management of data stores and the use of technology necessary to acquire, store, and secure data sets. Navigating the Data Minefields: Management’s Guide to Better Decision-Making provides executives and subject matter experts (SMEs) with a "reasonable" set of useful tools they can adapt to their specific organization and operating environment. While complexity can never be taken out of an integrated system, decision-making can be facilitated by using metrics that take into consideration the quality of the data used to make decisions, i.e., risk mitigation. Professionals who depend on large high-quality data sets, such as senior and mid-level management, engineering SMEs, data scientists, IT, systems engineers, and medical professionals, will want to have this book in their decision-making arsenal.

How to Navigate the Minefield That Is Dementia with Your Loved One: A Guide Born of Experience is a book that I felt called to write. As a physician and one well versed in geriatrics, I thought I knew how to navigate the system to get dementia care for my husband. I was very wrong. Dementia is a worldwide epidemic. At the moment, there is no cure. Our understanding of the disease process is incomplete and appears multifactorial. Everyone knows or loves someone who has been afflicted with it. The very thought of dementia is met with fear and avoidance. Little information is available to the lay public. This book is written for a lay audience. In my view, knowledge is power, and my goal is to empower the general public with basic knowledge of the disease and what steps can be taken to deal with it with confidence. It is written in three parts. Part 1 is a memoir designed to introduce you to Ollie, and I and tell the story of what we experienced in our journey both before and during the dementia years. Part 2 is a scientific literature review, written in lay terms, describing the most common types of dementia and the most up-to-date information on diagnosis, cause, prevention, and treatment. References are provided mostly from 2018 through 2020. The third part is designed to help the caregiver understand where and how to get help for loved ones without destroying themselves both physically and financially. This is a book that will help you if you are already caring for a dementia patient. It may help you even more if you are not yet in that situation, because you will need this information along the way in your life journey.

""Digital Assistants"" demystifies the technology behind AI-powered assistants like Siri and Alexa, revealing how voice commands are transformed into actions. It explores the evolution of voice recognition, from early speech processing attempts to modern deep learning breakthroughs. A key insight is that understanding meaning, or user intent, is what distinguishes today's digital assistants, emphasizing the shift towards genuine human-computer interaction. The book progresses by first introducing core concepts like speech processing and natural language understanding. It then dedicates chapters to the components of a digital assistant, such as acoustic modeling and dialogue management, and examines ethical implications like data privacy and algorithmic bias. Finally, it explores diverse applications in healthcare and education. This approach provides a comprehensive overview of the technology while also exploring its ethical considerations. A unique aspect of the book is its focus on the semantic layer, going beyond speech recognition to explore how these systems infer meaning and context. By examining the linguistic nuances of human speech and the cognitive processes involved in understanding natural language, ""Digital Assistants"" offers a holistic perspective on this rapidly evolving technology and its impact on our daily lives.
